Louis Drouet (1792-1873), much admired virtuoso flautist, composer, musical director and opera director, was 'a flautist of truly European standing and sphere of influence'. His method still forms part of today's standard teaching repertoire. The 'Little Sonatas' published here for the first time as a separate new edition constitute the final part of Part 3 of his method. In accordance with the remarks of Drouet who had two different performance versions in mind, the sonatas are available in two instrumentations: for two flutes and for flute and piano. The piano accompaniment, with its figured bass realized by Gottfried Bach, has been turned into a harmonic accompaniment.

Der Komponist J. B. de Boismortier (1682-1765) hat den Spielern der Querflote viele Werke gewidmet. Er schrieb zahlreiche Sonaten fur zwei Floten und Sonaten fur Flote und Generalbass, aber auch Zyklen von Sonaten fur drei Floten ohne Bass und mit Bass sowie Konzerte fur funf Floten. Der Komponist lebte in der ersten Blutezeit der Flotenmusik, als das Instrument von vielen Liebhabern bevorzugt wurde, die immer wieder neue Werke suchten. In diesem Werk fur die Anfanger des Flotenspiels bringt der Komponist nur Beispiele in den zu seiner Zeit auf der Flote spielbaren Tonarten. Diese folgen abwechselnd beiden Richtungen des Quintenzirkels, sodass von C-Dur aus die Vorzeichen schrittweise anwachsen. Damit ist dieses Werk sowohl eine Einfuhrung in das Lesen und Verstehen der Tonarten, als auch ein einzigartiges Werk im Bereich der fur den Unterricht gedachten Musik fur Melodieinstrumente.
