Thérèse BRENET, born 22 October 1935 in Paris, France began her musical studies at a very early age, receiving her first prize in Piano from the Conservatoire de Reims.At the Paris Conservatory, her prinicipal teachers were Jean Rivier, Darius Milhaud, Maurice Duruflé, Noël Gallon and Henri Dutilleux and she obtained First Prizes in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue. She finished her studies in 1965, receiving a First Prize in Orchestration, A First Prize with highest honors in Composition and the First Grand Prix de Rome in musical composition.She also won the Halphen Prize for Composition and the Fugue, a grant from the Coplay Foundation of Chigaco and was named honorable member of the National Academy of History of Reims. In 1971, she received the Stéphane Chapelier-Clergue-Gabriel Marie Prize from the SACEM and in 1973, the Silver Medal from the City of Paris.After her stay at the French Academy at the Villa Médicis in Rome, Thérèse Brenet undertook several post-graduate voyages for study, notably to Poland. Upon her return in Paris in 1970, she was immediately named to the Faculty of the Paris Conservatory (CNSMD de Paris) where she also was frequently part of the juries for music theory and composition, as well as electroacoustical music.Thérèse Brenet receiving her definitive SACEM membership from Georges Auric She retired from the Paris Conservatory in 2000 and has since devoted her time to musical composition. Historians speculate that Anna Magdalena got the song from the Leipzig Opera after the bankruptcy of 1720. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and certainly the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy are the St. John Passion, and indeed the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. I have a picture of standing all alone on a bare hill covered in heather, the wind blowing in my hair, and grey skies reflected in the river Dee flowing at the foot of the hill. There’s a heroic feeling beginning in bar 16 – are we in the Jacobite rebellion, perhaps? Use your imagination!

This wonderful Sonatina is in 3 movements for the intermediate flutist. It is a finalist for the 2022 New Voices for Young Flutists competition. Set in the band friendly Key of B-flat major, Movement 1 is a Classical Sonata Allegro Form with an accessible flute part and a piano part that makes it BIG!  It's called 'Clockworks' because of the type of clock sounds used, especially in the piano part. The range for the flutist is Low A to High D.   Movement 2 is called 'Time for Caring.' I wrote the melody I wanted to play. It's lovely and makes you want to develop an even more beautiful sound. It's range is Low F to High D with a fast scale going from Low F up to mid B-flat.  This is also in the Key of B-flat.  The 3rd Movement is also in the Key of B-flat. I called it 'Time to Grow.' It's rhythm is in 8/8, usually divided into 3+3+2, although there are a few measures where it is easier for the flutist to think of it in 2+2+2+2.  It has a lot of drive in the rhythm and I think has a Broadway kind of sound, as if people were moving and walking across a busy stage while singing. I'm uploading a recording of this which I hope you enjoy! The piano part is much more challenging. Each of these movements is accessible, musical, interesting and when paired with the accompaniment a full ensemble kind of sound.  Enjoy!

VifDates de composition : décembre, 1926 - octobre, 1927The Sonata for Piano and Flute (Sonate pour piano et flûte) was composed for Claude Desanges, a school mate of the composer. The only known performance was an informal one at the Parisian apartment of Leguerney’s parents. Leguerney’s mentor and dear friend, Thérèse Cahen, accompanied Desanges.The Sonata is dedicated to Michel Jomier, Leguerney’s close friend, who also wrote several poems that Leguerney set during his early period of exploratory compositions. Part of the handwritten dedication is illegible, it reads “To Michel Jomeir, in memory of ?†and there we can only guess at the rest. There are several autograph manuscripts on deposit at the Département Musique of the Bibliothèque National in Paris. These manuscripts are the property of the Leguerney Estate, and are identified by a code starting with OL. OL11 is a full-score rough draft with several corrections, indicated by hatch-marks. It is dated 1 October 1927. At the end of the 1st movement, the last quarter notes in the piano part are marked with a slur going over the final double bar, indicating that the sound should continue to resonate. There is a fermata over this ending double bar in both the flute and piano parts, which implies that the 2nd movement should continue immediately. This mark is eliminated in OL11A. The 2nd movement also has slurs over the final notes, indicating a segue to the 3rd and final movement. There are fermatas over the final chords of the 2nd movement as well. These are eliminated in OL11A. The 2nd movement isdated 29 October 1927 and the 3rd movement is dated 9 December 1926. OL11A is a cleanly copied full-score autograph manuscript where the title is Sonate pour Piano et Flûte en 3 Mouvements. Andantino spiritoso, Pas trop lent, Vif. (Sonata for Piano and Flute in 3 Movements. Andantino spiritoso, Pas trop lent, Vif.) OL11B is a clean copy of the flute part. Although unsigned, it appears to be an autograph manuscript. The breath marks placed into the Musik Fabrik edition are written in pencil in both OL11B and OL11C. OL11C is a flute part that appears to be used. It is worn, has some paste overs and penciled-in cues in the 2nd movment, as well as some breath marks and nuance indications. This seems to be a workingcopy for a performance or reading. The editor thinks that OL11B is the final draft, written out after OL11C was used for a performance. This edition is based upon all of these sources, using the full score of OL11A and the flute score OL11B as the final thoughts of the composer.

This is largely because it was used as the theme song of the popular 1950s television series Alfred Hitchkok Presents. Gounod wrote the piece in 1872. The piece, originally for piano, describes the story of a marionette who is killed in a duel. In the original score, Gounod included comments in French matching the action in the story to the music: · La Marionnette est cassée!!! (The marionette is broken!!!) · Murmure de regrets de la troupe (Murmurs of regret from the troupe) · Le Cortège (The procession) · Ici plusieurs des principaux personnages de la troupe s'arrêtent pour se rafraîchir (Here many of the principal personages stop for refreshments) · Retour à la maison (Return to the house) The picture on the cover is the first page of the original publication. A great sounding arrangement of A Night in Tunisia arranged for Flute & Piano, Flautists will love this!A jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard.It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.
