The selected pieces range from the Baroque era via the Classical period to the Romantic era. Apart from original pieces, the editors have deliberately included easy arrangements of well-known masterpieces as well in order to facilitate access to the classical concert literature.
The pitch range found in the pieces (not higher than E''') can be easily mastered by pupils from the second year of tuition. The collection is particularly suitable to work on various aspects of interpretation and musical performance.

These are 12 original and ambient flute and piano duets with a different piece for every major key beginning with C major and each number moving a half step higher till number 12 in B major. These are all relaxing and romantic composition in quiet and calm styles and are somewhat a set of etudes encouraging the violinist and pianist to play similar styles in some keys that that may not be favorites. However, professional musicians have to play in every key and students would be well served play all and not avoid certain keys. All of these have piano tracks that may be used for performance or rehearsal and can be found under "Quietude No. 1 Piano Track" and just changing the number to find the right track. Despite the rich and lively repertoire, there are only few compositions for flute and piano which can truly be called 'jazz-inspired'. This gap is now closed by Jeremy Norris with his 'Jazz Suite'. Its musical language is characterized by syncopated and swing rhythms as well as by blues-inspired harmonies and melodies. The instrumental setting is vaguely reminiscent of the music by Earl Hines, Benny Goodman or Dave Brubeck. Emil Kronke (1865-1938), a composer of the German late Romantic era, has unjustly fallen into oblivion until today. As a pianist and piano teacher, he primarily composed works for his principal instrument. In addition, he wrote several works for flute which look back on a rich tradition in Dresden, his adopted home town and sphere of activity for many years. Apart from virtuoso salon music, he also composed easier pieces like Kolibris Op. 201 from 1931.
The six appealing miniatures with easy piano accompaniment are little didactic pieces which can be used even by young flutists of today to develop their technique and their style. Furthermore, they sound so beautiful as to certainly bring a good mood into the classroom, yet are also suitable for pupils' concerts and competitions. May the Kolibris continue to fly in the following generations and be played by young musicians with joy and imagination.

Whereas Roussel's large-scale works are rarely programmed these days, his chamber music works are still very popular. For flautists, the cycle Joueurs de Flû.te is a frequently performed standard work of the 20th century. Its unique charm lies in the assignment of mythological flautists to .distinguished .flautists of the early 20th century.
