Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549573 Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards,World. Score and part. 18 pages. Jmsgu3 #3508701. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549573). Duration: ca. 2:17 Score: 10 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A proven audience pleaser - perfect for a recital encore! Grieg Background In the first place, Edvard Grieg (1843 –1907) was a Norwegian composer as well as a concert pianist. As a matter of fact, most music historians consider him one of the foremost Romantic era composers. Consequently, his music is part of the international standard classical repertoire. Grieg moreover used Norwegian folk music in his own compositions. Consequently, he ushered Norwegian music to transnational consciousness. Furthermore, he forged a national musical identity for Norway. It is important to realize that he did this in a manner similar to Jean Sibelius in Finland, and Bedřich Smetana in Bohemia. Legacy Grieg is especially celebrated in the city of Bergen. For example, the city has erected numerous statues depicting Grieg. Specifically, the city has named a concert hall (Grieg Hall), a music school (Grieg Academy) and a professional choir (Edvard Grieg Kor) after him. As a matter of fact, there is also a museum located at his former home in Troldhaugen. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Op. 46) Grieg wrote incidental music for the purpose of illustrating a play by Ibsen known as Peer Gynt. The play includes, in particular, the famous selection entitled, In the Hall of the Mountain King. In this composition, Grieg indeed depicts the exploits of the scoundrel, Peer Gynt. In one famous episode, for example, Peer steals a bride at her wedding. For this reason, the people chase him, but soon Peer falls, thereupon striking his skull on a boulder. He wakens forthwith in a highland bounded by angry gnomes. Consequently, the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King represents the mad gnomes taunting Peer. Therefore, each time the theme repeats it gets louder and faster. In the end, Peer surprisingly escapes from the mountain. Holberg Suite and Misc. Summary It must be remembered that Grieg originally wrote his Holberg Suite for the piano. In other words, he only later arranged it for strings. Further, Grieg composed by and large many songs with lyrics by famous writers such as Heine, Goethe, Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling, and others. On balance, Norwegian pianist Eva Knardahl recorded altogether Grieg’s whole piano catalog on LP in 1980. These recordings were released again on CD in 2006. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.738159 Composed by Frank MacNamara, Fiona Hickie. Arranged by Fiona Hickie. Folk,Patriotic. Score and part. 16 pages. Fiona Alice Hickie #5018217. Published by Fiona Alice Hickie (A0.738159). A collection of 3 pieces based on the poems of Frank MacNamara. The first is the well known ballad, Moreton Bay. The other pieces are 'Seizure Of The Cyprus Brig From Recherche Bay' and That Day I Will Be Free' . 'The Seizure' was very popular among the convicts of the time as it tells the story of a daring escape from Van Diemen's Land, while 'That Day' is a mock poetic statement made by Frank when asked by a judge when he will be free and Franks humorous attitude is reflected in the music. The third piece is written for piccolo and piano, but included is an optional flute part. Some background information on Frank is included as are the lyrics to the three songs.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.738030 Composed by Fiona Hickie. Classical,Contemporary,Jazz. Score and part. 6 pages. Fiona Alice Hickie #4303825. Published by Fiona Alice Hickie (A0.738030). A piece for flute with piano accompaniment. The possum is an Australian native animal. It is a nocturnal animal that has adapted well to city life, being quite happy living in the roofs of houses. This piece represents the possum creeping about at night time looking for food. It is inspired by an experience I had with a baby possum one night, when I woke up to the strings on my grand piano being played. The young possum had come down my chimney and was looking for an escape from the rain. It was also fairly unhappy with being placed outside again.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IdXGxFlhCg&feature=youtu.be

Jmsgu3 #3505767. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549530). Duration: ca. 3:40, Score: 5 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Super-famous instantly recognizable tune, not very difficult - suitable for a recital, funeral or church meditation. In any event, Grieg himself performed and recorded the bulk of these pieces toward the end of his life.Register for free lifetime revisions and updates at www.jamesguthrie.com

Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1426085 Composed by Duncan Druce, Edward Cowie, Michael Ball, Nicholas Marshall, and Peter Racine Fricker. Arranged by John Turner. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score and part. 44 pages. Forsyth Brothers Ltd #1006899. Published by Forsyth Brothers Ltd (A0.1426085). Forsyth's Modern Wind Music series contains exciting and challenging, but not unduly difficult, works by talented English composers of current or recent vintage for recital, study or recreation. Each volume includes three works with piano, one unaccompanied piece, and one piece for two or more players of the instrument. This volume for flute has a natural history slant. Lacerta Agilis by Duncan Druce is a portrait of a sand lizard, Michael Ball's piece takes as its cue the Greek legend of Philomel who was turned into a nightingale to escape the Wrath of Tereus, whilst Edward Cowie's A Lesson For Reed Warblers (for two flutes) is designed for one bird (or flute) to teach the other to sing. The magical solo work in the album is Two Spells by Peter Recine Fricker, and the remaining piece is Nicholas Marshall's rhythmic and jazz-influenced Jump.Contents:Jump by Nicholas MarshallLacerta Agilis by Duncan DrucePhilomel by Michael BallTwo Spells by Peter Racine FrickerA Lesson For Reed Warblers by Edward Cowie (Flute Duet).
