It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.This version of In My Life is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Violin. Musicians at an intermediate level will find In My Life ideal for formal and informal concert performance. Most of the duet is straightforward though the transcribed piano solo is difficult for both players; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. Merengue Tipico bands maintain the traditional instrumentation of the double-headed tambora drum, güira, accordion and vocal, while urban bands in the North American diaspora often add saxophone, bass and other percussion. The Merengue dance became hugely popular in the 1950s and new forms continue to draw audiences around the world.If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady quintilla tambora rhythm is present throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. Bossa de Bastião is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Violin.This duet is based on the Brazilian style of Bossa Nova which evolved in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1950s. Bossa in its purest form is lyrical song accompanied by nylon-stringed guitar. The rhythm derives from Samba but is played at around half tempo. The harmony is often complex and influenced by jazz; indeed it was the collaboration between guitarist João Gilberto and American Saxophonist Stan Getz that led to the huge international popularity of Bossa Nova in the 1960s and beyond.If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Violin.It isn’t completely clear where the title 7.40pm comes from. One interpretation is that 7.40pm was the time the Odessa tram conductors finished work and danced to this tune. But there are versions titled 7.40am which may refer to the time of Jewish early morning prayers. Whatever the origin, there are several Russian recordings of 7.40pm that predate the 1917 revolution.7.40pm is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments.
