It has become one of the most instantly recognisable of Mozart’s melodies. It derives its title from the Turkish style marching bands that were fashionable in Vienna at the time. This version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives solo instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for piano. The overall performance time is around three and a half minutes. The music is set to the ancient Muwasha poetry, often with secular themes such as love. Andalusi music remains popular today, especially in Morocco, and has influenced many other forms of Arab music. Øب aims to capture the melody and spirit of this timeless music.Øب is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The preamble is in free time, like an improvisation, followed by the melody and instrumental interludes in a typical ten beat cycle. Øب has a performance time of around three minutes.
