The Pizzicato Polka is a piece of orchestral music by Johann Baptist & Josef Strauss composed in 1869 for a trip to Imperial Russia. It was published in 1870. The polka was written for string orchestra and glockenspiel. It was hugely popular, especially in Italy, where it was included on every program Strauss played there. The piece consists of four melodies and the work is arranged in ternary form (A-B-A). The original piece is scored for plucked strings.

Life Gone By is a piece for 2 B flat clarinets (one soprano and one bass) which is suitable for those at beginner to early intermediate level.It mixes a simple arpeggio based accompaniment with a beautiful, developing melody line in the soprano clarinet which not only sounds pleasant but it is easy and quick to learn.This piece is approximately 1 minute 50 seconds long and so is a perfect length for a music interlude at an event or for a short recital in a school. ISBN 9790570484225.This piece was written many years ago while I was a student at the Royal College of Music, but it received its first professional performance in 2014, in a concert at St. John's Smith Square. It falls into two strongly contrasted sections, each with its own character. The opening Andante should be played as smoothly as possible, and requires careful control of dynamics and intonation, as well as a perfect blend of tone; the Allegro is full of exuberant energy, and needs clear articulation and rhythmic precision. The 1st and 2nd clarinet parts are quite equal with the material divided evenly between them, so that the piece is suitable for two players of similar standard, and should appeal to a wide range of clarinettists. I hope you enjoy playing 'Tones for Two'!

Published by David McKeown (A0.587665). The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. There are of course separate piano and instrumental parts included in downloaded the file.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamic contrast.
