The Game of Thrones theme plays over the tile sequence in the blockbuster TV series of the same name. The show’s producers gave composer Ramin Djawadi express instructions not to use violins or flutes so he wrote the main theme for Cello instead. This version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, or for playing with friends and in music lessons. Both parts enjoy melodic interest. The overall performance time is one minute and forty seconds. Follow the youtube link to hear a full length performance of the Clarinet version of this duet. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with the 6/8 time signature. This duet will also help develop a strong projected tone and rhythmic momentum. Although it was a big sheet music seller at the time, it was Perry Como’s 1951 recording that turned it into a major hit. The simple harmony and melody have made this a perennial favourite with everyone from Sinatra to the Jacksons, Maria Carey and Bruce Springsteen. This version borrows from the swinging jazz style of various Sinatra recordings and is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Bass Clarinet.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are syncopated swing rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The short audio sample is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with jazz rhythms and articulation. ISBN 9790570484225.This piece was written many years ago while I was a student at the Royal College of Music, but it received its first professional performance in 2014, in a concert at St. John's Smith Square. It falls into two strongly contrasted sections, each with its own character. The opening Andante should be played as smoothly as possible, and requires careful control of dynamics and intonation, as well as a perfect blend of tone; the Allegro is full of exuberant energy, and needs clear articulation and rhythmic precision. The 1st and 2nd clarinet parts are quite equal with the material divided evenly between them, so that the piece is suitable for two players of similar standard, and should appeal to a wide range of clarinettists. I hope you enjoy playing 'Tones for Two'!

Published by David McKeown (A0.587524). The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite. This full version is arranged as a duet for two Clarinets and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist. Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals.
