It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a duet for two Trumpets.It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. This is a set of three miniature intermediate trumpet duets focusing on developing specific skills on the trumpet. It could be used for a recital, in trumpet lessons or just as a practice tool with a friend. The three sisters are mythological creatures, with snakes for hair and gazes that turns one into stone. The overall character of these three miniature duets is nasty. This can help a young trumpeter practice accessing different emotions in their playing. Euryale is a study in trills. This sister, who was the second oldest, was vicious, with brass hands and fangs. She is especially noted for her bellowing cries, which is emulated in the obnoxious trills in the opening. Medusa was a beautiful maiden. Turning men to stone was defense mechanism for her, as the mythological story details she suffered at the hands of Poseidon. Of the three sisters, I thought Medusa was somewhat misunderstood. Her movement as a result is a little tamer, but still has a sense of unease. The movement is constructed as a round, which can help develop skills in timing and form. The final sister, Stheno, utilizes some more complex rhythmic figures. Stheno was arguably the most ferocious of the three sisters, having turned more men to stone than both of her sisters combined. It has almost a Latin feel to it, but it never stops being in a classical style.Having made a major part of my income playing Salsa gigs in the 90’s, there is a lot of that clave rhythm in most of my writing. There are hints of that rhythm in Paid to Play trumpet duet.Paid to Play is four pages long and I read it from my iPad with a foot pedal page turner to record the video. Four pages is just a little out of character for the Trumpet Player skill level, but we didn’t want to exclude this very happy duet for only the length.

Published by David McKeown (A0.590014). Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is an American nineteenth century spiritual. This version is arranged as a duet for two Trumpets. The words and music of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song in 1865 and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. In recent times Swing Low, Sweet Chariot has been adopted by the Civil Rights movement on one hand, and the England rugby team on the other. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The hymn is played three and a half times, once as a ballad, then twice in a slow rock style, before returning to the ballad at the end. Tamo daleko is a Serbian folk song which was composed on the Greek island of Corfu in 1916 to commemorate the Serbian Army's retreat through Albania during World War I. It is played in triple metre and begins solemnly in a minor key before switching to the relative major of the dominant key in the third line of the first verse, symbolizing hope before returning to the tonic minor key from the beginning. The lyrics to the song come in multiple versions, all of which end with the line long live Serbia! Tamo daleko (kyrillisch: Тамо далеко; Deutsch: Dort, weit weg) ist ein traditionelles serbisches Lied aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg. Das Lied wird als Hymne der serbischen Soldaten betrachtet, die außerhalb Serbiens für ihr Land kämpften. Tamo daleko wird von einem serbischen Soldaten gesungen, der auf Korfu stationiert ist. It remains the biggest hit of her career with 25 million sales and a seasonal return to the charts every year. This version is faithful to the swinging rock’n’roll style of the original and includes a simple transcription of Boots Randolph’s famous sax solo. It is arranged as a duet for two Trumpets. Musicians at an early intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are some simple syncopated swing rhythms and a few accidentals accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes.
