Juan Maria Solare #985321. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.1402117). Eisenbahn, this cycle of 11 pieces for two saxophones is an important milestone in Juan MarÃa Solare's output. The pieces are dedicated to the Albanian clarinetist Ibrahim Gunbardhi, which requires telling a little anecdote: For a few years, the composer lived as a neighbor of the clarinetist in Bremen-Lesum, Germany. Each Thursday, there were clarinet and saxophone lessons for several hours. The sounds awakened the composer and mixed themselves in his dreams. From that to composing a cycle of duos was just a simple step.All titles of the cycle are related to the railroad (but in German): The rails meet on the horizon, Unexpected meeting in the on-board bistro, Trees passing by, Curious cows watch us go by, End station, and many others.Why eleven pieces? Some would prefer a round number such as ten or twelve. However, eleven is the composer's favorite number - among other things because it is a prime number and because he was born on the eleventh (of August).Musically speaking, this cycle of pieces is quite rhythmic, particularly with rhythms related to South America.More trivia? Written in ABA form it opens with a lilting melody against a contrapuntal part. The B section is much more flowing and dynamically softer in the relative minor key. This is an excellent piece to use to teach contrasting styles and accurate articulation. This would make a great addition to any school concert or community program.See my other saxophone duets here

Â It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners. Â This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr. Â Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance.The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work. Â This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period. Â (1 page score, 1 page @ part, with repeats - 2 1/2 minutes).

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1413963). A Siciliano is based on a graceful rustic dance of Sicily, and is considered a type of Pastorale. Â The Siciliano style always has dotted rhythms. Â It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners. Â This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr. Â Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance.The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work. Â This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period. Â (1 page score, 1 page @ part, with repeats - 2 1/2 minutes).

Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. I wanted the lilting tempo in the outer sections to have a medieval minor tone, to work with the contrasting major section in the middle. I very much wanted it to be a sax duet rather than sax 1 and sax 2, so the parts are pretty equally divided. It is romantic in nature, but uses modes and has a few interesting harmonies. It is placed at early intermediate level, about associated board grade 4/5- The youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability. A dotted quaver semiquaver is the most complicated rhythm. It would be very suitable for concerts, contests, recitals, weddings as well as an incidental piece. 5 minutes in length. Price is for score and parts (also Clarinet duet, flute duet, flute and clarinet duet, and violin duet available).
