As with any song, the lyrics are very important, even when performed instrumentally as in this case. The emotions of the poem are imitated in the music. Encourage listeners to follow along by printing/displaying Henry W. Longfellow's well loved text: I heard the bells on Christmas day Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men. This arrangement functions very well for both a moderately advanced solo soprano sax and sax duet. The duet part is more intermediate, making it a great option for an intermediate level student, or a less experienced player. While the duet part has been written for its corresponding solo instrument, the duet part can be purchased for other instruments as well. Separate duet parts available for: Flute, Oboe, Soprano sax, Clarinet in Bb, Alto Sax, Horn in F, Trumpet in Bb, Trombone, Baritone (T.C.), Violin, Viola, and Cello. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844704). Wieniawski's Legende is a repertoire standard that was originally written for Violin solo and Orchestra. I have greatly abridged and simplified the piece into a 2 part instrumental duet without losing any of the character of the Romantic piece. I have arranged themes from each of the three sections, keeping the original structure, but taking liberties such as changing phrasing, dynamics, adding my own markings, and even changing the Time Signature in certain passages. I begin with each instrument taking solo turns on the melody and end with a similar cadenza style set of solos for each instrument. The two parts are of equal importance and much of the character is in the interplay between the two instruments. This is a beautiful concert arrangement of a beloved classic.

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844706). Wieniawski's Legende is a repertoire standard that was originally written for Violin solo and Orchestra. I have greatly abridged and simplified the piece into a 2 part instrumental duet without losing any of the character of the Romantic piece. I have arranged themes from each of the three sections, keeping the original structure, but taking liberties such as changing phrasing, dynamics, adding my own markings, and even changing the Time Signature in certain passages. I begin with each instrument taking solo turns on the melody and end with a similar cadenza style set of solos for each instrument. The two parts are of equal importance and much of the character is in the interplay between the two instruments. This is a beautiful concert arrangement of a beloved classic.

Published by Grant Horsley (A0.785814). The Nightingale For Alto Sax Duet and Piano is in a gentle Barcarolle tempo in concert G minor and in ternary form. I wanted the lilting tempo in the outer sections to have a medieval minor tone, to work with the contrasting major section in the middle. I very much wanted it to be a sax duet rather than sax 1 and sax 2, so the parts are pretty equally divided. It is romantic in nature, but uses modes and has a few interesting harmonies. It is placed at early intermediate level, about associated board grade 4/5- The youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability. A dotted quaver semiquaver is the most complicated rhythm. It would be very suitable for concerts, contests, recitals, weddings as well as an incidental piece. 5 minutes in length. Valse Sentimentale is in ternary form, in 3/4 time and romantic in nature The first section is a gentle waltz in concert B flat minor minor and the second section by contrast is in G flat major and takes on a barcarolle like quality but remaining in 3/4 not the traditional 6/8. It returns to section one again and the coda brings back a short reminder of the barcarolle theme in B flat major to finish. The range of the Saxes are around two octaves- Each part is equally divided to avoid the 1st Sax and 2nd definition. I have set it to intermediate level. It would work well for a variety of occasions. The full score is on the you tube link for you to assess suitability. It is around 5 mins 50 in length. Price is for the full score and parts. Flute duet, Violin duet, Clarinet duet, Oboe duet and Solo Piano versions are also available.
