Øب (Hubb, Arabic for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Alto Saxophone, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.This duet is inspired by the Andalusi music of the Maghreb. The music is thought to have originated in Muslim Spain a thousand years ago and spread across North Africa in the following centuries. The music is set to the ancient Muwasha poetry, often with secular themes such as love. Andalusi music remains popular today, especially in Morocco, and has influenced many other forms of Arab music. Øب aims to capture the melody and spirit of this timeless music.Øب is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The preamble is in free time, like an improvisation, followed by the melody and instrumental interludes in a typical ten beat cycle. Øب has a performance time of around three minutes. Horsey Horsey is a comedy song arranged by David McKeown as a duet for one Soprano Saxophone and one Clarinet. Horsey Horsey was written in 1937 by Paddy Roberts and Ralph Butler. Paddy Roberts was a South African musician who flew in the RAF during the Second World War, then later as a commercial airline pilot. His music career finally got off the ground in the mid ‘50s. Ralph Butler was a well-known comedy lyricist of the time, responsible also for The Sun Has Got His Hat On, Nellie The Elephant and Run Rabbit, Run among others. Nowadays Horsey Horsey is best known as a nursery rhyme.This duet version of Horsey Horsey is a fun Theme and Variations, with the melody presented in swing style, in a slow minor key version, in 6/8 and in a nineteenth century style grand finale. The arrangement moves through several different keys, exploring a wide range of the instruments, and is therefore suitable for players at an Advanced Intermediate level.
