This version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is arranged by David McKeown as a duet for one Soprano Saxophone and one Clarinet. The song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, was written in 1949 by Johhny Marks. The Rudolph story was written by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L May, a decade earlier. The success of the song was guaranteed when it was recorded by Gene Autry, a huge star at the time. Initially Gene Autry didn’t like the song and was only persuaded to record it by his wife. She obviously knew best as Rudolph went on to become the second best-selling Christmas record of all time after White Christmas, with versions by everyone from the Jackson Five to Alvin and the Chipmunks. This duet version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is based on the Gene Autry version, with a short introduction, and three choruses of the melody, with a key change and varied accompaniment throughout. Rhythms are simple in a swing style and the range is conservative, so this arrangement is ideal for players at an intermediate level. This version is arranged as a Duet for one Clarinet and one Tenor Saxophone. Written by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice, the version in the original movie was sung mainly by Kristle Edwards, with a closing credit version performed by Elton John himself. The song won both an Oscar and a Grammy in 1995. Musicians at an intermediate standard will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performances. Total performance time is around three minutes. This version of Can You Feel The Love Tonight contains elements from Elton John’s performance and also the film versions from both 1994 and 2019. Down by the Riverside was sung in African-American communities before the American Civil War but did not appear in print until included in a 1918 collection of spirituals. Several versions were recorded by gospel choirs in the ‘20s and ‘30s, and Down by the Riverside, with its lyric, I ain’t goin’ to study war no more, was adopted as an anti-war song by the ‘60s counterculture.Down by the Riverside is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments.
