His music is considered to be a bridge between the grandiose and romantic works of the French composers before him, such as Gounod and Berlioz, and the more intimate and melodic style of composers like Debussy and Ravel.Delibes’ influence can be heard in the works of later composers such as Stravinsky and Prokofiev, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed today. This arrangement adapted for viola duo was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, that is, inspiring and significant to the already known choral symphony by Beethoven, indicated to be performed by young music students, who want to enter the symphonic music, moreover, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change in key, so that it is comfortable for all instruments in the formation, thus maintaining the essence of the striking melody, as well as using it for ensemble practice among musicians of different traditions.Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (To Joy), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as the instruments in a symphony, thus creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form that was to be adopted by Romantic composers. This is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best known works in the Western repertoire, considered both an icon and predecessor of Romantic music, and one of Beethoven's great masterpieces, where it was first performed on May 7, 1824, the same year it was completed, at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, Austria. The conductor was Michael Umlauf, the theater's music director, and Beethoven - dissuaded from conducting by the advanced stage of his deafness - was given a special place on the stage next to the conductor. It was later rearranged by Herbert von Karajan to become the anthem of the European Union in 1972, the national anthem of Rhodesia from 1974 until 1979, Rise, O Voices of Rhodesia, used the tune Ode to Joy.

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844454). A Siciliano is based on a graceful rustic dance of Sicily, and is considered a type of Pastorale. The Siciliano style always has dotted rhythms. It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners. This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr. Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance.The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work. This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period. This easy arrangement for viola duet has been adapted to be simple to perform and understand the structure of the original work for various levels of musical knowledge. It can be played freely by beginning students because of the ease imposed on the piece. It is often performed at wedding ceremonies slowly and reverently, challenging the effect suggested by Bach in his original score for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and continuous bass. This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. Published by David McKeown (A0.587431). Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja, (The Birdcatcher’s Song) is an aria from the first act of Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. It has become one of Mozart’s best loved melodies and features the birdcatcher Papageno. In the first production the role was played by the producer and theatre owner. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two ViolasMusicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half. The full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this duet.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.
