This arrangement of Sebastian Temple’s setting of the Prayer of St. Francis speaks to me, and I hope can speak to you in a real way.The arrangement for viola duet with piano is entirely in the key of C, and except for a few 3rd position notes in the viola 1 part, can be played entirely in 1st position. It follows the form of Temple’s song: verse/verse/chorus/verse, with an added chorus/verse. The melody moves back and forth between the parts. Published by David McKeown (A0.589122). Chosn Kale Mazel Tov, (Good Luck to the Bride and Groom), is a Jewish wedding tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violas. Often shortened to Mazel Tov, it is thought that the song was written by Sigmund Zelig Mogulesko. Born in Romania, he was a larger than life character who dominated Yiddish theatre on both sides of the Atlantic in the late nineteenth century. Mogulesko was a childhood prodigy, equally adept as a composer, playwright, singer, comedian, actor and impresario. Mazel Tov was written for a wedding scene in one of his productions but has since become one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards.Mazel Tov is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a slow and expressively beginning, the melody switches to dance tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Mazel Tov is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above.
