This version is arranged as a duet for two Trombones.Kandel’s Hora was written and named after Harry Kandel. Born in Lvov, and after a short period in the Russian army, Kandel emigrated to the USA in 1905 and quickly found work as a clarinettist in vaudeville, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and JP Sousa’s band. A brief but productive period as band-leader and recording artist followed, after which Kandel retired from performing to run a music shop.Kandel’s Hora is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. A slow Hora in triple meter is followed by a faster Freylach version of the same melody in 4. Kandel’s Hora is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above. With a performance time of three minutes, this version of Kandel’s Hora is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. Go Tell It on The Mountain is most often considered a Christmas Carol with the original lyrics,Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere;Go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born.Nothing is known of its origins, but it first appeared in print in an 1865 collection of Spirituals. More recently, the lyrics have been adapted to support the struggle for human rights, most famously by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1963. Go Tell It on The Mountain is simply arranged in keys and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is played twice in swing style after a brief introduction; after a short breakdown the key changes and the melody is repeated at a slower tempo. In 1815, after two solos with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Belcke had a 30-year career as a trombone soloist. In 1819 a critic admired a concert given by Belcke in Leipzig for its clarity and precision, distinctness and pleasing sound, plus something truly noble in the imposing trombonistic figurations, as well as astonishing skill in that which is not idiomatic to the instrument - for example, rapid passages, cantabile, trills, etc.

The song, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, was written in 1949 by Johhny Marks. The Rudolph story was written by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L May, a decade earlier. The success of the song was guaranteed when it was recorded by Gene Autry, a huge star at the time. Initially Gene Autry didn’t like the song and was only persuaded to record it by his wife. She obviously knew best as Rudolph went on to become the second best-selling Christmas record of all time after White Christmas, with versions by everyone from the Jackson Five to Alvin and the Chipmunks. This duet version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is based on the Gene Autry version, with a short introduction, and three choruses of the melody, with a key change and varied accompaniment throughout. Rhythms are simple in a swing style and the range is conservative, so this arrangement is ideal for players at an intermediate level.
