As long as you have two players and play parts 1 and 2, the instrument choices don't particularly matter. On an ad hoc basis, choir, jazz piano, and/or snare with brushes can easily be added. A lead sheet is also included in the set of parts and is available separately from Mark Wayne Music Educational Considerations 1. Minimum Proficiency/Curricular Assumption - The student has studied the key of F, but the key of Bb may be currently under study. Fingerings that are unique to the key of Bb are provided as listed by instrument below. Positions are indicated for cello and bass 2. Harmony and Enharmonics - This piece provides an excellent opportunity to discuss how the oddly spelled note illustrates its’ function within the chord. Notes that may be new to the student or enharmonic spellings the player will encounter are listed below. Chord symbols are indicated in the score as an aid. Violin: L4 on D string, new note Ab Viola: L4 on G string, new note Db, Enharmonics- Cb, Fb Violin III included Cello: 2 measures extended first position (repeated). Second position on D string Bass: New notes: Eb on D string, Db on A string, Ab on E string, Enharmonic- Gb Jazz Pizzicato (optional) - Place the inside of the right hand on the string and pluck with the entire side of the index finger, letting it come to rest on the lower string. This has two effects, more sustain, and a more resonant tone. The technique works great for a single bass but may cause an ensemble problem with multiple basses.

Corelli's Op. 5 consists of 12 sonatas for violin and basso continuo. Sonata, Op.5, No.10 has five movements: I. Preludio, II. Allemanda, III. Sarabanda, IV. Gavotta, V. Giga. The fourth movement (IV) is especially well-known.Basso continuo is usually played by harpsichord and cello. However, Lumiere Duo has released a beautiful CD recording of Op. 5, No. 7, performed as a duet for violin and cello. The sheet music we're sharing here is arranged for duets of Op. 5, No. 10, for violin and viola.Viola is tuned one octave above the cello. As a result, the viola can't faithfully replicate the cello part from the original. There are notes that are too low for the viola's range. In the arrangement for violin and viola, we strive to stay true to the original notes. If the notes aren't in the viola's range, we raise them by one octave. However, following this rule too strictly can lead to unnatural sequences. In such cases, even when the note is within the viola's range, we use a note one octave higher to maintain naturalness. While there's no rigid rule for this treatment, we're trying to imagine what Corelli might do if he were arranging for violin and viola. There are multiple verses and choruses that champion bass, vocal, and guitar lines which are all essential and must to be played simultaneously to maintain the integrity of the music. I had to be creative and infuse the viola part with elements of the bass line along with the guitar while the violin carries the vocal line. I still found ways to trade the melody between violin and viola, and added double stops where they add to the harmonies and overall affect without being terribly difficult. Measures are numbered, parts and score are bowed, and rehearsal letters included.

The Tulip Ch’Boogie is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Boogie originally referred to the piano style found in Southern State bars where the driving swung bass-line, often double in octaves, cut through the noise. These bass-line patterns were adapted by Big Bands in the ‘30s, and later by Jump bands like that of Louis Jordan. Later still Boogie was quickly incorporated into Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll. The Tulip Ch’Boogie is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals.
