Published by David McKeown (A0.589601). Bublitschki is a Ukrainian/Jewish Folk song, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Violin and one Viola.Bublitschki was written in 1922 by Yakov Jadow. The title means pretzels in Russian and was inspired by the pretzel sellers by the railway station in Odessa. Jadow observed that the street-vendors were poverty-stricken and wrote the song as a lament. Initially popular in the Soviet Union, a recording by the Barry Sisters in 1939 brought this song to an international audience.Bublitschki is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in two sections and is played twice with a short coda and constant variations in the accompaniment. Bublitschki is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of just over three minutes, this version of Bublitschki is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. Sia is such a incredible song writer and her music has many layers that contribute so much to the magic of her music. It was tricky to feature both her melodies and the driving rhythm in her percussion and bass lines. In this arrangement, the violin and viola trade the melody back and forth. The instrument playing the accompaniment part at any given point usually has double stops to fill out the harmonies along with a driving rhythm. The viola part features pizzicato as well as several treble clef sections when it sustains the chorus melody. The violin has some very high sections. To facilitate ease with reading, particularly with the double stops, this arrangement is in B minor instead of the original key. Bowings, measure numbers and rehearsal letters are provided.
