After decades of discussion, musicologists seem to agree that it was Jeremiah Clarke that composed Trumpet Voluntary and not Henry Purcell. In rondo form, this majestic march is a standard in the Baroque repertoire. This arrangement is a good opening number at a performance or could be used at weddings within Prelude, Processional or Recessional. Dynamics plus lever and pedal changes are clearly marked. The melody is entirely in Harp I. You will receive the Score, Harp I, and Harp II.Â

The folk melody, named Hallelujah or Good Shepherd, appeared in 1813 in A Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second published by John Wyeth in Pennsylvania. Wyeth was a compiler of music for the purpose of publishing, not a musician. The tune of the hymn is called Nettleton. Asahel Nettleton was an evangelist from Connecticut who worked in New England. There is no indication that he wrote any music. The first appearance of this melody with the Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing lyrics was published by Darius Jones in 1852. Charles Ives used this folk melody in two of his compositions: First String Quartet and the song The Innate.This duet is in the key of D. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.

Aaron Copland included the melody in his ballet, Appalachian Spring (1944). Arrangements of Simple Gifts has been sung at three US Presidential Inaugurations (1985, 1993 and 2009).  The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an A Version. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version. The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together. In the key of D, the melody is divided evenly between parts. There are no pedal or lever changes. Dynamics are clearly marked. Shaker songs were quite often sung in rounds.

It was performed by minstrel groups, glee clubs, barbershop quartets and radio stations. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point set new lyrics to the melody, renaming it Army Blue. The title morphed into Aura Lee along the way. Published by O'Meara Music (A0.803866). This famous Shaker quick dance has many names including Tis a Gift to be Simple, Simple Gifts, and Lord of the Dance. Aaron Copland included the melody in his ballet, Appalachian Spring (1944). Arrangements of Simple Gifts has been sung at three US Presidential Inaugurations (1985, 1993 and 2009).  The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an A Version. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version. The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together. In the key of D, the melody is divided evenly between parts. There are no pedal or lever changes. Dynamics are clearly marked. Shaker songs were quite often sung in rounds.
