O'Meara Music #4621501. Published by O'Meara Music (A0.808007). One of the most popular hymns of all times, the poem, What A Friend We Have in Jesus, was a poem written by Joseph Scriven in 1855. He sent it from Canada to his Mother in Ireland. In 1868, American Charles Converse, an attorney and composer of hymns, came across Scriven’s poem and set the words to music, publishing it in a hymnal. Set in the key of F, the melody is shared equally between parts. Each part is of equal difficulty, although Harp II makes F# in each verse. Dynamics are clearly marked. This famous Shaker ?quick dance? has many names includingTis a Gift to be Simple, Simple Gifts, and Lord of the Dance.Aaron Copland included the melody in his ballet, Appalachian Spring(1944). Arrangements of Simple Gifts has been sung at three US PresidentialInaugurations (1985, 1993 and 2009).
The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an AVersion. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the BVersion. The B Version has thinner linesand allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpistsof various playing levels to enjoy performing together.
In the key of D, the melody is divided evenly between parts. There are nopedal or lever changes. Dynamics are clearly marked. Shaker songs were quite sungoften in rounds.

O'Meara Music #5026257. Published by O'Meara Music (A0.808024). This sweet, well known Christmas melody was originally a Finnish springtime song, dating to the 13th Century. It was published in 1582 in a book of seventy-four songs. After receiving a copy of that book as a gift, John Mason Neale set his lyrics celebrating the famous Bohemian (907-935) to this melody. In 1854, the book Carols for Easter-tide was published, including Good King Wenceslas as a Springtime song. This arrangement has 5 verses in the key of G. It represents Good King Wenceslas and his Page trudging through (eighth notes) the harsh winter weather on December 26 as they leave their warm castle to help the poor. Occasionally there is a pause as they catch their breath or look through the swirling snow at how far they have traveled. The fourth verse represents the Page walking in King Wenceslas’s footsteps. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked. You will receive the Score, Harp I, and Harp II.

Aura Lea, published in Cincinnati before the Civil War began in 1861, became a favorite of both sides of the conflict to sing around campfires. It was performed by minstrel groups, glee clubs, barbershop quartets and radio stations. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point set new lyrics to the melody, renaming it Army Blue. The title morphed into Aura Lee along the way. It has appeared in movies and TV shows.In 1956 Elvis recorded his version of the melody with new lyrics, naming it Love Me Tender. Harp I is playable on either Lever or Pedal Harps. Harp II is for Pedal Harp. The melody is evenly divided between parts. You will receive score plus individual parts.

He used a haunting melody that he’d heard during his travels through Appalachia with a poem that had been published in 1811. He titled the hymn Wondrous Love. The melody has now been traced back to an English Ballad (Roud #5089). In the Dorian mode, the sixth scale degree is lowered in the harmony some of the time. Arranged for Lever or Pedal Harps, dynamics and pedal changes are clearly marked.
