Victoria was not only a composer, but also an accomplished organist and singer as well as a Catholic priest. However, he preferred the life of a composer to that of a performer. His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Few remembered Joplin’s music until a revival in the 1970s brought The Entertainer and others to the world’s attention. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers. The duets included in this collection are, The Entertainer, The Maple Leaf Rag, The Easy Winners, The Elite Syncopations and The Favorite. They have been arranged as duets for one Trumpet and one Trombone, and include all sections of the original compositions. The YouTube link showcases the clarinet version of these duets. The duets are suitable for players at an intermediate and and advanced intermediate level. Musicians will find these Ragtime duets ideal for formal and informal performances, light and fun, yet still a serious and vitally important part of the American musical heritage. This Trumpet and Trombone Duet arrangement was created to preserve the characteristics of the original work, inspiring and significant to Beethoven’s well-known choral symphony. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one key change, maintaining the essence of the striking melody. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (“To Joyâ€), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as instruments in a symphony, creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form adopted by Romantic composers. The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. This full version is arranged as a duet for Trumpet and Trombone and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics. Sing Joyfully William Byrd - Brass Sextet - Advanced/Intermediate - .William Byrd was the greatest British composer of the late Renaissance. and just maybe, the greatest British composer ever. He wrote a huge body of choral music, some of it profound and timeless. He also composed brilliant, virtuoso pieces and his motet-like anthem, Sing Joyfully, a polyphonic setting of Psalm 81, written in 1590, is perhaps his best-known one. It is enchanting to listen to and fun to sing. Regis Bookshar thought that instrumental performers should have the same opportunity that singers have experienced for years, so he has now transcribed, edited and arranged this wonderful composition for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles, including this one for a Brass Sextet, consisting of 3 Bb Trumpets and 3 Trombones.Since no tempo is indicated and there are no written dynamic or phrase markings in William Byrd's original score, Regis Bookshar has taken the liberty to included them in order to provide direction and life to the piece. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students, and perhaps even some younger students. It is perfect for concerts, recitals and church services, but could be performed for any occasion. Four Elements was originally composed for Violin and Bass Trombone and was written as a Christmas present for the composer's sister, Priscilla, and her husband, Bass Trombonist, Gordon Hallberg who performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Raum was experimenting with tone rows at the time and the row is first stated in the first six notes in the Trombone part followed by the next six in the Violin part. The titles of the movements, from the Four Elements, are descriptive of the moods of each movement. Water has the lines of the instruments flowing, as in a river with swirls and eddies. Earth has Jazz influences which are intended to give an Earthy quality to the second movement. Air, with mutes, glissandos, and quasi unmeasured rhythm, seeks to float; The finale Fire is crackling with excitement. Trombonist, David William Brubeck, asked Raum if she had anything written for trumpet and trombone as he frequently performs in a duo so she adapted the violin part in Four Elements for trumpet. The work can be performed by advanced performers. Two scores are provided, including one for C Trumpet and the other for B-flat Trumpet. The Trombone part can be performed with an f-attachment Tenor Trombone or Bass Trombone
