This was the first recording of calypso music, pre-dating the first jazz record by five years. This arrangement distills the lively, improvised nature into an arrangement for intermediate violin with chords and suggested strumming patterns (for guitar, ukelele, mandolin or any other plucked instruments). Now he is perhaps best known for a short song called Clavelitos (Little Carnations), which has been recorded by many sopranos.

Published by Simon Browne (A0.975492). Esperanzas (Hopes) is a Venezuelan-style waltz recorded in 1914 by Belasco's Band - the Trinidadian dance orchestra led by pianist Lionel Lanky Belasco. He later re-recorded it as Roses of Caracas in the 1930s.Belasco was the foremost Trinidadian musician and composer of his era, and is lauded in Venezuela as the man who introduced jazz to the country. He emigrated to the US in 1915 and was one of the most prolific West Indian recording artists of the early 20th Century, accompanying the first Calypso singers in the late 1920s and 30s.Originally performed on violins, cello, flute, clarinet, piano and a variety of strumming instruments (guitar, mandolin, cuatro and braga).Arranged for violin and guitar (or other strumming instruments).Part of Paseos and Waltzes of Trinidad Vol.1 which can be purchased complete for $29.99 and included 12 paseos and waltzes as recorded by Lovey's Band and Lionel Belasco's Orchestra from 1912-1918.Arrangements for larger ensembles (strings and wind) are available on request.

Many years ago I wrote arrangements of 8 Jewish melodies (which are still available for flute and guitar, for clarinet and guitar and also for guitar trio).
This year (2018) I decided to make more varied arrangements for the melody instrument and guitar duo format, and I have compiled them here.
They are based on the following traditional tunes:
