It was sung in the 1941 film Lady Be Good by Ann Sothern. The song catered to a wartime nostalgia for songs about European cities following the Second World War Battle of France (which brought Paris under Nazi control), with A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square also proving popular.

It was originally only an album track; 2 years passed before it was released as a single. During 1973-74, the Carpenters found themselves with a busy touring schedule, which kept them from working on new material. As a result, they had no album issued for the year. They decided to choose this song for single release. It works well as a piano solo. If you have need for a special arrangement or wish to see what I have available email me at jfries@ptd.net.

Setting of the poem A time of change by Mark Haviland:Survivors of some strange social shipwreck we swim seperately to shore There to sit with heads in hands not speaking to each other any more We were a group a single body united in our purpose Now isolated helpless communication contact lost the fragments of some past mosaic whole now each a single coloured splinter without guidance or control The kaleidoscope is shaken the pattern disappears the fragments rearranging A new design appears we take on new identities abandonning the past Memories of our former ties are all that's left at last.

Although the show ran for only 39 performances, Blue Skies was an instant success, with audiences on opening night demanding 24 encores of the piece from star Belle Baker. During the final repetition, Ms. Baker forgot her lyrics, prompting Berlin to sing them from his seat in the front row. The song was featured prominently in the film Star Trek: Nemesis, as sung by Commander Data during the wedding at the start of the film. It is sung again at the very end of the film by his brother, the android B-4, during the final scene set in the 24th century,.

People and advances mentioned are Christopher Columbus's proof the Earth is round; Thomas Edison's phonograph; Guglielmo Marconi's wireless telegraphy; the Wright brothers's first flight; the Rockefeller Center; Eli Whitney's cotton gin; Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat; Milton S. Hershey's Hershey bar chocolate; and Henry Ford's Tin Lizzy Model T car.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1140575 By Elton John. By Bernie Taupin and Elton John. Arranged by Jacob A Smith. 20th Century,Blues,Folk,Rock. Score. 3 pages. Jacob A Smith #740813. Published by Jacob A Smith (A0.1140575). Border Song is a song by Elton John with music by John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin.[2] The song initially appeared on the 1970 album Elton John, and was released in the spring of 1970 as the LP's first single. After failing to chart in the UK, it was released in North America a few months later. It met with more success there, especially in Canada, where it peaked at No. 34.[3] The appearance of Border Song on the Canadian charts was John's first chart appearance in any country. Border Song was also John's first song to chart in the United States, peaking at No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 69 on the Cash Box Top 100[4] in October 1970. A cover by soul icon Aretha Franklin (with Holy Moses following the title in parentheses to reflect the repeated phrase in the song) fared better reaching No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 23 in the Cash Box Top 100 in December 1970.[5] It was included as the closing track of Aretha's 1972 Young, Gifted and Black album as well. The song's melody is similar to that of a spiritual.[7] A choir sings during an instrumental break led by John's piano. John has said that the song is about the alienation Taupin felt in and about London at the time (Brand of people who ain't my kind), and his desire to visit home as often as he could. John himself wrote and added the last verse, which departs from the theme of alienation and speaks against bigotry: Holy Moses, let us live in peace/let us strive to find a way to make all hatred cease/there's a man over there. What's his colour I don't care/he's my brother let us live in peace..

The song is the most popular song from the 1965 Broadway musical Man of La Mancha and is also featured in the 1972 film of the same name starring Peter O'Toole. The complete song is first sung by Don Quixote as he stands vigil over his armor, in response to Aldonza (Dulcinea)'s question about what he means by following the quest. It is reprised partially three more times – the last by prisoners in a dungeon as Miguel de Cervantes and his manservant mount the drawbridge-like prison staircase to face trial by the Spanish Inquisition. A version recorded by Jack Jones peaked at No. 35 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and reached No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart.

It was the third and final single from his fourth studio album of the same name (1975), released on Columbia Records. Though the song briefly reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., it was a bigger hit on the magazine's Easy Listening chart, where it peaked at number four Still Crazy After All These Years begins with the singer singing that I met my old lover on the street last night. The old lover has been variously interpreted to be either Simon's ex-wife Peggy Harper, from whom he was recently divorced, his former girlfriend from the 1960s Kathy Chitty, or even Simon's former musical partner Art Garfunkel, who appears on the song that follows 'Still Crazy After All These Years on the album. After sharing a few beers, the singer and the old lover part ways again.

At the Last Supper Jesus broke bread and passed around the cup. Then He said to do this in remembrance of himself. This song is a tribute to this. As we take the bread and the cup we reflect on Jesus having died on the cross to forgive us from our sins and having suffered for us. This is the piano and vocal score.

Published by SmartWorks Publications (A0.506422). From Kurt Weill's last Broadway musical, Lost in the Stars, which opened on 30 October 1949, a year before Weill's early death at the age of 50. Based on Cry the Beloved Country, it was adapted by Maxwell Anderson, who worked with Weill on his very first Broadway musical, Knickerbocker Holiday, in 1935, not long after Weill arrived in the USA as a refugee from Nazi Germany. The song makes terrific use of Weill's affinity with the Blues, the harmonies well-suited to the mellow tones of the guitar - a haunting piece!

One early recording of the song was notable in that it was Frank Sinatra's first solo recording (Bluebird 11463 in 1942). A review in Billboard called the recording a sparkling example of song with Sinatra's singing and Axel Stordahl's musical direction. Sinatra also made studio recordings of the song for Columbia records in 1947 and Capitol Records in 1957. On May 19, 2015, Bob Dylan sang it on the second-to-last episode of The Late Show with David Letterman.

Originally recorded by Bobby Vinton, the song was twice recorded by Karen Carpenter, both as a solo act and as a member of the Carpenters. Between 1979 and 1980, Karen Carpenter went to New York to record a solo album with Phil Ramone as producer. Make Believe It's Your First Time was one of twenty songs recorded. This version was ultimately shelved until 1996, with the release of her eponymous album, Karen Carpenter. Karen's solo version is far more subdued with only a piano, bass and drums as her accompaniment. The Carpenters recorded a version of Make Believe It's Your First Time for their 1981 album Made in America. The song, like Karen's solo version, went unreleased in her lifetime and was not included on the album. After Karen's death in 1983, the song was placed on the Carpenters' next album, Voice of the Heart, and was released as a single. Richard Carpenter's arrangement uses far more instrumentation, adds a bridge written specifically for this version, key modulation during the last chorus, and the inclusion of background vocals.

Love Is Here to Stay was the last musical composition George Gershwin completed before his death on July 11, 1937. Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics after George's death as a tribute to his brother. Although George had not written a verse for the song, he did have an idea for it that both Ira and pianist Oscar Levant had heard before his death. When a verse was needed, Ira and Levant recalled what George had in mind.

Fred Coots with lyrics by Haven Gillespie. Numerous versions of the song have been recorded, and it has since become a pop and jazz standard. Alec Wilder terms Coots' melody a minor masterpiece. According to Ted Gioia, “’You Go to my Head’ is an intricately constructed affair with plenty of harmonic movement. The song starts in a major key, but from the second bar onward, Mr. Coots seems intent on creating a feverish dream quality tending more to the minor mode. The release builds on the drama, and the final restatement holds some surprises as well. The piece would be noteworthy even if it lacked such an exquisite coda, but those last eight bars convey a sense of resigned closure to the song that fittingly matches the resolution of the lyrics.

It is associated with Frank Sinatra, who recorded it on his 1964 album It Might as Well Be Swing accompanied by Count Basie under the direction of Quincy Jones. It was the last song Sinatra sang in public, on February 25, 1995, and the words The Best is Yet to Come are etched on Sinatra's tombstone. Although Sinatra made it popular, the song was written for and introduced by Tony Bennett.

Published by SmartWorks Publications (A0.509021). This great Brecht/Weill song surely needs no introduction! Written (at the very last minute!) for Brecht/Weill's 1928 'play with music', based on 18th century English satirist, John Gay's, The Beggar's Opera, the opening song of The Threepenny Opera - an unexpected 'mega-hit', running for 2 years in a small 'fringe' theatre in Weimar Republic Berlin, and making the 30-year-old Brecht a millionaire! - has remained the biggest hit from these extraordinary artists. And, following the 1950's Broadway revival, with new English lyrics by Marc Blitzstein, became an even bigger smash with covers by everyone who's anyone in showbiz from Louis Sachmo Armstrong to Bobby Darin, 'Ol' Blue Eyes' himself, and on through the millennium (the 100th anniversary of Weill's birth and 50th of his death!), with yet more covers by the likes of Sting and Nick Cave. Like the song, the list goes on ... and on ...!

Imogene Coca performed this song in an episode of Your Show of Shows while dressed as a hobo; the audience reaction was so favorable that she encored her version in the last episode of the variety series, making this the only song she performed in two different episodes of Your Show of Shows.

Some people just think it is climate change and that they can do something about it. But the reality is that fire will rain from the sky and Jesus will return at the trumpet blast and the world will finally come to a close. You might think I am joking but I am not pulling your leg!
