Although known primarily for his trumpet playing as the leader of the Tijuana Brass, Alpert sang lead vocals on this solo recording, arranged by Bacharach. This song is written in 12/8, which is commonly used in slow rock and pop ballad. It could be an excellent exercise to learn the compound rhythm. Once you get used to reading and feeling the notes in groups of 3, it makes more sense. However with the 16notes in the music, a 12/8-bar is way too long and clumsy to read, hence in this arrangement, each bar is divided into two by a dotted barline because a 12/8-bar is actually two 6/8-bars.
This arrangement follows the complete song form as the original recording. All sections are labeled, along with the chord symbols and lyrics. The first verse and second verse have different LH accompaniment, and the bridge has some exciting stops adhere to the melody, which is fun to play.

The music was featured in the 2006 movie Curse of the Golden Flower 满城尽带黄金甲. This version has a tempo of 69 bpm and is in F Major (before modulating to G Major at the end). More importantly, it includes the part for the Gu Zheng å¤ç (chinese zither) integrated into the piece. Guitar chords and original chinese lyrics can also be found in the piece. Subsequently, Johnny Mercer wrote the words to the song. One famous recording of the song with the Mercer lyrics is by Ella Fitzgerald on her 1957 album Like Someone in Love.
