It was the third and final single from his fourth studio album of the same name (1975), released on Columbia Records. Though the song briefly reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., it was a bigger hit on the magazine's Easy Listening chart, where it peaked at number four Still Crazy After All These Years begins with the singer singing that I met my old lover on the street last night. The old lover has been variously interpreted to be either Simon's ex-wife Peggy Harper, from whom he was recently divorced, his former girlfriend from the 1960s Kathy Chitty, or even Simon's former musical partner Art Garfunkel, who appears on the song that follows 'Still Crazy After All These Years on the album. After sharing a few beers, the singer and the old lover part ways again.

The chorus adheres to a standard ABAC pattern but is only 20 measures long. There are four 4-bar phrases, followed by a 4 measure tag. The song is harmonically active, with chord changes almost every measure. The opening four notes are identical to the opening notes of Peg o' My Heart (1912). At that time songwriters often borrowed the first few notes of a hit melody. The song was so popular that the sheet music was later decorated with tiny photographs of the 45 men who made the song famous.

In liturgical churches, it functions beautifully as a congregational sung response following the Prayers of the People (or even replacing the Prayers of the People). In evangelical settings, it can be sung as a stand-alone worship hymn right after the sermon, or as part of a set of worship songs at the beginning or conclusion of the service. I am a prolific songwriter, and I've been writing music for 35+ years now. Through all of those years, there have only been a handful of occasions where I have felt more like a conduit of the Holy Spirit than the composer of the hymn; this was definitely one of those times. This is Our Prayer is written in the key of F Major, making it highly accessible for beginning church accompanists. It has a moderate tempo, set in a 3/4 time signature with a lilting rhythm. The vocal range is designed for robust congregational singing. The melody line is just one octave, ranging from Middle C to the C above it; the Alto line is just a six note range, from Middle C to the A above. This score includes the piano accompaniment in a strophic, hymn style format, two-part vocal harmony, and guitar chords (which can also assist pianists who play by chord + melody line, instead of by reading the score). The simplicity of this hymn does not detract from its' beauty, however. This is a highly singable, memorable tune with some interesting rhythmic patterns. The lyrics of this hymn are loosely based on Romans 12:12-21 (As far as it depends upon you, live at peace with all people). The words of the hymn are truly a prayer, asking God for peace, but they also remind us that as people of faith, we are invited to participate WITH God in the process of making peace on earth, by how we pray, live, give, and place our trust in God. One lyric reads that we dare to pray for peace; this is an intentional choice on my part, flagging the potential costliness of becoming people who prioritize peace. The week this hymn was released to Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music Unlimited, Reverbnation, and Deezer, it debuted at #30 on the Top 100 Contemporary Christian Music Charts on Spotify. The YouTube video version of the hymn (link attached below) was viewed over 7,000 times in the first ten days, by people in over 40 countries. You are welcome to stream it for worship services, on church websites, and on social media. The more people view it, the more ad revenue it will generate, and all profits from the sale of this hymn in any form (video ad revenue, digital MP3 sales on the sites listed above, and the sale of this musical score) will be donated to the Red Cross and the United Church of Canada's Mission & Service Fund; both of these registered charities have targeted programs running to assist Ukrainians who've been displaced by the war. The song was originally entitled Never No Lament and was first recorded by Duke Ellington and his orchestra on May 4, 1940. Don't Get Around Much Anymore quickly became a hit after Bob Russell wrote its lyrics in 1942. Two different recordings of Don't Get Around Much Anymore, one by The Ink Spots and the 1940 instrumental by Ellington's own band, reached No. 1 on the R&B chart in the US in 1943. Both were top-ten pop records, along with a version by Glen Gray. The Duke Ellington version reached No. 8 on the pop chart. This arrangement includes the lyrics.

Catharina Josepha Pratten (15 November 1824 – 10 October 1895) was a German guitar virtuoso, composer, and teacher, also known as Madame Sidney Pratten. A legendary composer, virtuosa, editor and teacher ( among her pupils were the daughters of Queen Victoria!), she was born in Cologne/ Germany as Catharina Josepha Pelzer in 1824, toured as child prodigy with Giulio Regondi, married flutist and composer Robert Pratten and lived then until her death in 1895 in London.She was born Catharina Josepha Pelzer in Mülheim on 15 November 1824,[1] the daughter of the German guitarist and music teacher Ferdinand Pelzer. Her family moved to England in 1829. On 24 September 1854, she married the English flautist Robert Sidney Pratten.Catharina began touring in Europe from the age of eight, and by 1844 was well known in England as a composer and guitar teacher. She soon established her school - Madame Sidney Pratten's Guitar School - and published tutorials, including Guitar School: a Book of Methods (1859) and Learning the Guitar: Simplified (1874), which advocated the use of alternative tuning in E major. Her pupils included Queen Victoria’s daughters Louise, Princess of Wales and Beatrice, and the actor, singer, guitarist, and composer Ernest Shand.She composed some 250 works, most of them for solo guitar or voice and guitar. Heike Matthiesen has recorded some of the guitar pieces, including the variations on Carnaval de Venise, the two Fairy Sketches, and the Serenade.Her residence in London was 22 Dorset Street, Portman Square, where she lived after the death of her husband in 1868, and where she died on 10 October 1895. Her sister, Giulia Pelzer (also a teacher), continued to run the guitar school after Catharina’s death. Catharina is buried at Brompton Cemetery, London.[She owned many guitars herself and selected others for her pupils, often with her label inside. One - in splendid condition - was advertised for sale in The Times in 1939.

God Defend New Zealand - Arrangement for Voice, Piano and Guitar by Michael Thomas CoullGod Defend New Zealand was first performed in Dunedin's Queen's Theatre on Christmas Day, 1876. Â Played by the Royal Artillery Band and sung by the Lydia Howard Burlesque and Opera Burle Troupe, the patriotic song found immediate favour with the Dunedin public. Â The words, a poem written by Thomas Bracken in the 1870s, was first published in a competition run by The Saturday Advertiser and New Zealand Literary Miscellany. Â The competition was to compose a 'National Air' based on five verses of Bracken's poem, and appeared in the Advertiser on 1 July, 1876 listing a grand prize of 10 guineas. Â On 9 September the Advertiser reported that 12 completed entries had been received. Â Several weeks later on the 21 October the winning entry by John Joseph Woods, a school teacher from Lawrence, was announced.The popularity of God Defend New Zealand grew throughout the 19th century and entered the 20th century as one of the most popular songs. Â In 1935-39 with the help of John McDermott, chief engineer of the NZ Post Office, and others God Defend New Zealand was made New Zealand's national song in time for the 1940 Centennial celebrations.In 1976, almost 100 years after the first public performance, a petition calling for God Defend New Zealand to become the national anthem of New Zealand, organised in Dunedin by Gareth Henry Latta and others, was presented to the Petitions Committee of Parliament with 7750 signatures. Â With the permission of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Government adopted God Defend New Zealand as the countries national anthem.Traditionally God Defend New Zealand is performed in G major, but as this can often be rather high for amateur voices, the anthem is also presented here in F major.
