The film industry has been hugely important in India since the early days of Independence and music has been centre-stage in most productions. The music has always been a hybrid between traditional Indian forms and Western popular music and is renowned for its spectacular dance set-pieces. पà¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤° aims to capture the rhythm and spirit of Bollywood.पà¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤° is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The melody alternates between vocal and instrumental interludes with Bhangra style rhythms underlying throughout. Accurate articulation will help convey the style. पà¥à¤¯à¤¾à¤° has a performance time of around three minutes. This version is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Clarinet.Kandel’s Hora was written and named after Harry Kandel. Born in Lvov, and after a short period in the Russian army, Kandel emigrated to the USA in 1905 and quickly found work as a clarinettist in vaudeville, Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and JP Sousa’s band. A brief but productive period as band-leader and recording artist followed, after which Kandel retired from performing to run a music shop.Kandel’s Hora is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. A slow Hora in triple meter is followed by a faster Freylach version of the same melody in 4. Kandel’s Hora is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above. With a performance time of three minutes, this version of Kandel’s Hora is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal. David McKeown #711954. Published by David McKeown (A0.1109580). The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films. This duet version for one Oboe and one Clarinet includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only. The YouTube link is a full performance of the Clarinet version of this arrangement. Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.
