While sung by countless artists over the years, it is synonymous with its original performer, Bing Crosby, who nailed the original recording with orchestra and singers in under eighteen minutes. Written by Irving Berlin in 1941, the song reached its audience via the 1942 movie bearing the same name. This version, arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Clarinet, is true to the original in structure and feel. There are two verses, one reflecting Crosby’s free phrasing, and the second, copying the stricter phrasing of the singers and orchestra.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances, with both parts enjoying plenty of interest. There are a few moderately difficult rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. Total performance time is around three minutes. It was included on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and an orchestration featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Sting in 1973. This arrangement won an Oscar and reached No.3 on the US single charts. This version has been arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Clarinet and includes all four sections of the original composition. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. Phil Beaman #5314663. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844712). Wieniawski's Legende is a repertoire standard that was originally written for Violin solo and Orchestra. I have greatly abridged and simplified the piece into a 2 part instrumental duet without losing any of the character of the Romantic piece. I have arranged themes from each of the three sections, keeping the original structure, but taking liberties such as changing phrasing, dynamics, adding my own markings, and even changing the Time Signature in certain passages. I begin with each instrument taking solo turns on the melody and end with a similar cadenza style set of solos for each instrument. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.This version of In My Life is arranged as a duet for one Oboe and one Clarinet. Musicians at an intermediate level will find In My Life ideal for formal and informal concert performance. Most of the duet is straightforward though the transcribed piano solo is difficult for both players; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song.
