Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797322). DeBrita had a knack for writing great flute and harp duets. Score is five pages in length, intermediate level, and has two G# to G natural accidentals. One change can be tricky on the lever harp but can be modified. Lowest note is E almost two octaves below middle C. Beginning and ending has rolling 16th note triplets, requiring the ability to play very evenly. Middle section is mainly eighth note patterns in the left hand with a combination of durations in the right hand. Flute part contains quite a few whole notes interspersed with a lovely melody. The piece is in 4/4 with one measure in 2/4, key of C.

Maïa for flute and harp was written for and is dedicated to the French duo of Anne Ricquebourg, harpist and Christophe Brandon, flutist.In Greek mythology, Maïa was the eldest of the Pleiades and one of Zeus's numerous conquests. She was the mother of Hermes, who is credited with inventing both the lyre and the flute. Considered to be a Spring godess, her name is the inspiration for the month of May. She was worshiped in ceremonies of rebirth during the Spring. The work is written in a moto perpetuoso style with much interplace between the two instruments. A lyrical openning section is followed by a more mysterious minor passage which uses a two note rocking motif. The initial material comes back in ornamented form and a short coda combining the two elements closes the work

A four-minute haunting duet for flute and harp. Generally modal/melodic accessible music. There are some more advanced rhtyhms and high passages in the flute, and Bach-like runs in the harp that will require practice for intermediate musicians.  The flute goes from low C to the B an octave above the treble cleff (but, only one 3-measure passage goes above the D above the treble cleff).The harp part can be played on a pedal harp or, with a little effort, on a lever harp. It starts in two flats, there's a middle section with F#s (with time to switch levers - the sheet music indicates some bass notes that can be skipped to flip levers), and the end adds Ab (which will require two levers flipped by reaching over with the right hand - unusual, but not too awkward with practice). The lowest note in the harp is the G below the bass cleff (however, all notes below the bass cleff are octave doublings and could be ignored on a smaller harp), and the highest is the D above the treble cleff.

With only a couple of hours until the service, He asked organist and schoolteacher Franz Gruber to write a song and simple accompaniment to accompany the lyrics. Mohr played the guitar, and Mohr and Gruber gave the world premiere performance at the Christmas Eve Mass in 1818 at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf in Salzburg.ORIGINAL SCOREEventually, the original score became lost, and Mohr's name was largely forgotten. Though the public initially recognized Gruber as the composer, many people began rumors that a more famous composer was responsible over time. Thus, they floated the names of Haydn, Mozart, and even Beethoven. Authorities eventually settled the matter when a manuscript in Mohr's handwriting turned up in 1820. Consequently, we learn that Mohr wrote the lyrics in 1816, and Gruber composed the melody in 1818.POPULARITYNonetheless, Silent Night is still very popular. Singers have performed this song in nearly every genre and multiple languages. Perhaps the most famous version is the one Bing Crosby crafted. This version is the third best-selling physical single recording in the history of recorded music. This recording was released in 1935 and sold at least 30 million copies.Only two songs have ever sold more. Elton John released Candle in the Wind 1997 and sold 33 million copies. The record for most copies ever sold goes to Bing Crosby. He released White Christmas in 1942 and sold 50 million physical copies.
