Duration - 6 minutes approx.Purchase includes Score with separate flute part (Also includes an Enharmonic Flute Part, which some players might find preferable)The Idyll For Flute And Harp was written in May 2021 at the request of flautist Gary Woolf as a wedding present for his good friends Dietrich and Ulla Hoffmann. It was played at the couple’s wedding at the end of July 2021 by Gary and harpist Brigitte Langnickel-Kohler and it received a very warm response from the wedding-goers! There are plans for further concert performances in the coming months. The above recording is the world premiere! Huge thanks to Gary and Brigitte!The music is beautifully melodic with an air about it of mid-summer and pretty countryside. After just having completed The Glastry Pearl, a huge intense orchestral work, writing this gentle little Idyll was like a welcome rest and journey into a beautiful summery meadow filled with flowers and bees and warm sunshine.

Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797322). DeBrita had a knack for writing great flute and harp duets. Score is five pages in length, intermediate level, and has two G# to G natural accidentals. One change can be tricky on the lever harp but can be modified. Lowest note is E almost two octaves below middle C. Beginning and ending has rolling 16th note triplets, requiring the ability to play very evenly. Middle section is mainly eighth note patterns in the left hand with a combination of durations in the right hand. Flute part contains quite a few whole notes interspersed with a lovely melody. The piece is in 4/4 with one measure in 2/4, key of C.

Maria-Félicie-Clémence de Grandval (1828–1907) was born on January 28, 1828 at Saint-Rémy-des-Monts, France and died on January 15, 1907 in Paris.After the death of her mother, Louise Adèle du Temple de Mésières, her father the Baron de Reiset, a military officer remarried with an Englishwoman and moved his family to London. After beginning her musical studies privately, she studied the piano with the German composer Friedrich von Flotow, who was a family friend. Returning to France, she studied the piano briefly with Chopin and composition with Camille Saint-Saëns. At first writing mostly sacred music, most of her public success was due to her comic operas: la Comtesse Eva, la Pénitente, Piccolino and Mazeppa. She also wrote orchestral music, chamber music, and over 60 songs (to poets such as Sully Prudhomme, Michel Carré, Henri Meilhac, Georges Hartmann, Charles Grandmougin and Louis Gallet.) She is chiefly known today for her music for wind instruments, especially for the oboe.

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1323319). ORIGINSFather Joseph Mohr wrote the lyrics for a new Christmas Carol. He wanted a unique melody for his Christmas Eve Mass. With only a couple of hours until the service, He asked organist and schoolteacher Franz Gruber to write a song and simple accompaniment to accompany the lyrics. The result is probably the most famous Christmas carols – Silent Night.FIRST PERFORMANCEPerhaps because the organ was undergoing repairs or to ensure the accompaniment was easy enough, Mohr asked Gruber to write it for the guitar. Mohr played the guitar, and Mohr and Gruber gave the world premiere performance at the Christmas Eve Mass in 1818 at St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf in Salzburg.ORIGINAL SCOREEventually, the original score became lost, and Mohr's name was largely forgotten. Though the public initially recognized Gruber as the composer, many people began rumors that a more famous composer was responsible over time. Thus, they floated the names of Haydn, Mozart, and even Beethoven. Authorities eventually settled the matter when a manuscript in Mohr's handwriting turned up in 1820. Consequently, we learn that Mohr wrote the lyrics in 1816, and Gruber composed the melody in 1818.POPULARITYNonetheless, Silent Night is still very popular. Singers have performed this song in nearly every genre and multiple languages. Perhaps the most famous version is the one Bing Crosby crafted. This version is the third best-selling physical single recording in the history of recorded music. This recording was released in 1935 and sold at least 30 million copies.Only two songs have ever sold more. Elton John released Candle in the Wind 1997 and sold 33 million copies. The record for most copies ever sold goes to Bing Crosby. He released White Christmas in 1942 and sold 50 million physical copies.
