Curtis Hanson #2857833. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719681). The chorale in this set of variations is part of a project celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The German chorale has a heritage which forms the basis of many of the hymns associated with the Protestant church, many of which have a close association with Martin Luther either in melody or in text. These chorales have been set by many composers in the late Renaissance and Baroque periods in various harmonizations and vocal/instrumental genres, culminating in the grandeur of those by J. S. Bach. This set of variations celebrates the German Lutheran chorale in the Luther-Bach lineage.

He composed it specifically for the confirmation class at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Spencer, Nebraska. This arrangement leaves the original melody intact. Some of the original chords have either been changed or modified with added tones. This can be sung simply as a hymn or in 4-part harmony (SATB) with piano or organ accompaniment.

English, Slavonic.Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi comes from a set of ten communion hymns, Opus 25. It is technically a kontakion, (a hymn sung in commemoration of a feast day, whether referring to Christ, the Virgin Mary, or to a saint). Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi is intended to be sung for the feast day commemorating an icon of the Virgin entitled “The joy of all who sorrow,†(Ð’Ñех ÑкорбÑщих РадоÑÑ‚ÑŒ|Vsekh skorbyashchikh Radost') observed on October 24 in the Orthodox Church calendar. The author of the text is unknown. In contemporary church practice, this work is sometimes sung during the communion of the clergy. Although other pieces in Opus 25 are based on traditional church chants, Nye Ãmamï inïya pómoshchi contains original music that is not based on any preexisting chant. The present edition is based on the first edition published in Moscow by Pyotr Ivanovich Jurgenson. The keyboard reduction has been modified from the Jurgenson edition. Russian Orthodox performance practice forbids the use of musical instruments to accompany church singing. Organ accompaniment, if used, should be unobtrusive. The Jurgenson edition includes Chesnokov's use of a quarter note without metronome marking. This indicates that the pulse is in a moderato tempo in quarter notes. A tempo of approximately 69 to the quarter note is suggested. The Jurgenson edition has inconsistent dynamic markings in various parts and text appears only below the soprano and tenor parts. For clarity and convenience, these indications have been included in each staff in the present edition. This scholarly performance edition includes notes concerning the history of Chesnokov and this piece, performance notes, the editorial method of the English singing version, and a pronunciation guide for the Slavonic transliteration.

As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal/choral tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set include Breathe on Me, Breath of God, Blest Be the Tie That Binds, and More Love to Thee, O Christ.

In this arrangement for four voices (SATB) you will hear the spirit of the Scottish Highlands and feel the sea breeze on your face. As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal/choral tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set include This Is My Father's World, I Love to Tell the Story, and Faith of Our Fathers.

The hymn was first associated with Freemasonry in Russia, but its popularity quickly grew. It became an unofficial national anthem until it was superseded by Lvov's “God save the Tsar.†Except during the Soviet period (1917–1991), Kol' slaven has been used in Russia at public gatherings and military ceremonies such as the christening of ships, lowering or raising of the flag, and at military funerals. Kol' slaven also became popular among émigré Russians and has been associated with Russian emigration in many countries. The singing of hymns with multiple verses in chorale style is not a part of Russian Orthodox worship. For this reason, Bortniansky's hymn is not considered liturgical in the Russian Church but is used mostly for secular ceremonies. History of the United States Navy and the Navy HymnOn August 26, 1775, the General Assembly of Rhode Island passed a resolution to create the Continental Fleet, to be funded by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. But on October 3, 1775, Congress rejected it. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress changed courses and established the Continental Navy. This was the birth of the United States Navy. The Continental Navy obtained and armed two civilian vessels, the Andrew Doria and the Cabot. The first United States Navy ship was the USS Alfred, which was commissioned by Captain Dudley Saltonstall on December 3, 1775. John Adams served as the first Chairman of the Naval Committee, but in 1776 the Continental Congress appointed Commodore Esek Hopkins to be the Navy’s first Commander. After the Revolutionary War, the government abolished the Continental Navy. But 11 years later, Congress passed the Naval Act of 1794, which created the United States Navy. The Navy was involved in the Revolutionary War (1775 – 1776), the War of 1812 (1812 – 1815), the Civil World (1861 – 1865), the Mexican-American War (1846 – 1848), the Spanish-American War (1898), World War I (1914 – 1918), World War II (1939 – 1945), the Korean conflict, the Vietnam conflict (1964 – 1975), the war on terrorism through various military operations around the world (1987 – 2021) ), Operation Earnest Will (1987 – 1988), Operation Praying Mantis in the Persian Gulf (1988), Operation Urgent Fury at the invasion of Grenada (1983), Operation Desert Shield (1990 – 1991) and Operation Desert Storm (1991) which comprised the Gulf War, Operation Deliberate Force which was the invasion of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1995), Operation Allied Force which was the attack on Yugoslavia (1999), Operation Desert Fox which was the bombing of Iraq (1998), Operation Southern Watch which was the aerial patrolling of Iraq (1992 – 2003), Operation Enduring Freedom at the invasion of Afghanistan (2001 – 2021), and Operation Iraqi Freedom at the invasion of Iraq (2003 – 2011). The Navy emerged from World War II as the most powerful Navy in the world.In 1860, William Whiting of Winchester, England, wrote a poem titled “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” for one of his students, who was preparing to sail for the United States. The poem alludes to Psalm 107 and is a prayer for God’s protection from seafaring danger. In 1861, Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune “Melita,” in 88 88 88 iambic meter, to accompany the hymn. “Melita” is the archaic name of Malta, which is an ancient seafaring nation. It was the site of the shipwreck that involved the Apostle Paul, as described in the Acts of the Apostles, chapters 27–28. In 1814, Malta became the Crown Colony of the United Kingdom, but in 1964 it gained independence and joined the British Commonwealth. The hymn has long been used by Navy and civilian chaplains during chapel services at sea, in navy and civilian maritime contexts. The Royal Navy, navies of the British Commonwealth, and the United States Navy adopted the hymn in the late 19th century as “The Navy Hymn.” Many verses have been written to Melita. James F. Linzey selected the four verses by Whiting (verses 1-3) and Hamilton (verse 4), which are the verses traditionally used in the Armed Forces Hymnal. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.
