The Battle of Kresvia is an a capella choral piece that tells the story of several knights going to fight in a mythical battle. There are several phases throughout this song. It starts out with a recurring melody of the soldiers marching, then the knights pause to dream about what they will encounter. However, all of their dreams turn to nightmares when they realize the mortal terror they will encounter. The warriors drearily march until their commander riles the troops and raises their morale. It is undeniable that we humans are, as a species, outgrowing our small planet. As populations boom and technologies diversify, we are increasingly unable to run away from our problems. As a result, violence in civilized society is increasing at an alarming rate. How do we combat those that do harm to others, and more importantly, how do we convince our race as a whole that the problem cannot long be ignored? This original poem and its musical setting seek to pay tribute to the victims of violence in the modern United States. In an age where it seems a new tragedy has occurred somewhere every day, this work is titled 365 to represent each day of the year. The poem is structured in seven stanzas for the days of the week, and there are twelve iterations of Three hundred and sixty-five for the twelve months in the year. The final, introspective stanza parallels the poignant Christian story of Christ's crucifixion at the hands of his brethren, and lends a darker side of thought with the chosen grouping of words (read either no more; God forgive us or no more God; forgive us). This text humbly seeks to draw attention to what exactly is happening among us, among our neighbors, our governors, and our legislators, and the importance of addressing this ever-growing crisis in our society.

TigerSong LLC #838814. Published by TigerSong LLC (A0.1243842). Charles Wesley's poem Jacob Wrestling is better known by its first line, Come, O Thou Traveler Unknown. A sermon in itself, the poem recontextualizes the struggle of the Old Testament story of Jacob wrestling with an angel to current believers' struggles with faith. Isaac Watts, one of the fathers of English hymnody, stated that this poem was worth all the verses [he] had written. It is set here to a traditional Scottish melody, Candler or Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon, and arranged for SATB choir. It opens with a tenor soli, joined by the other voices. When the speaker makes demands of his divine opponent, the anthem modally shifts to the parallel minor. Eventually, the choir wrestles, as the four wrestling verses of the poem are sung at the same time in a 4-part canon. Finally, the speaker's epiphany is accompanied by a key change and a joyous conclusion in 4-part harmony.

BYZANTINE HYMN: TI IPERMAHO (To the defender army leader) arranged for SATB choir and pianoDuring a siege of Constantinople in the 6th cent., and while the regular army was engaged in fighting elsewhere, the city was attacked by Avars. The women, children and seniors left there fought as best they could, but finally realized that they had to give up. As a last resort, they carried the icon of Panayia (St. Mary, always referred to as all-holy in Greek), alongside the city walls, something that produced an unexpected effect: The besiegers left! For three days the citizens participated in liturgies addressed to Her, in a hymn called AKATHISTOS YMNOS (=Non-sitting Hymn), where this tropation is central, as it is most actively still used in the Greek Orthodox Church at many other relevant services. The first part is the original, in unison, or sung by a soloist. The Traditional Latin Requiem Mass is a musical genre that brought the Western musical tradition important works ranging from composers such as Mozart, Faure, Berlioz, Verdi, Palestrina and Victoria. This is a newly composed setting of the Latin text of the Requiem Mass from Stephanie Martin, a master of the choral idiom. This setting of the Requiem has solid choral writing, beautiful melody and rich harmonies. It is that sort of sensuous music that is choirs love to sing, and which stirs the hearts of listeners.In 2017, All Souls’ Church in San Diego, California, commissioned Martin to composed a Requiem for All Souls. Martin’s Requiem for All Souls was premiered on Souls’ Day, November 2, 2017, and dedicated in loving memory of The Reverend Edward Kellogg. On the day before the premiere, Chris Jennewein of the Times of San Diego wrote: This is the first major musical commission in the church’s history, but follows the centuries-long tradition of churches commissioning new music from significant composers. ‘Today many people don’t realize that the music commissioned by churches for performance during Masses, holy days, and other ceremonies forms a part of what we now call classical music,’ says Ruben Valenzuela, who is All Souls’ Director of Music and will conduct the premiere. So many of the landmark works we still love and perform were in many cases commissioned by churches or other religious institutions. Martin’s 25-minute Requiem for All Souls is set to the traditional Latin text of the Requiem Mass and will be performed a cappella. Valenzuela describes it as a work of pure, beautiful vocal music grounded in traditional church music.
