Then shall the lion dwell with the lamb, then the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the wolf and the lion cub together, with a little child to lead them... Contemplative, with rich harmonies, quiet, but ultimately hopeful, as the season of Advent itself. You will find this this piece fits perfectly in worship services of lessons and carols, as well as Advent, and Christmas season services and concerts. Accessible to a good high school, college/university, or church mixed choir. The piano part is challenging, but not difficult. Soprano splits occasionally, otherwise, solid four part writing; lyrical melodies, lush harmonies, but no extremes in range. In October my mother was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer and she passed away a few days before Thanksgiving. Her passing affected me in ways I never expected. Music went from being the thing in which I could find solace, to the thing that reminded me of my mother's absence. I found myself unable to write my own music for quite some time. During the Lenten season of 2015, one of the Pastors at the church for which I work gave a sermon using this text. The sermon was particularly moving and I decided it was time to revisit the piece. The music was finished within 1 week. Just as my mother had done for me countless times, writing this piece gave me the hope and inspiration I needed to get through a difficult time in my life. I dedicate this work to my mother, Cynthia Marie Richards.

The Ballad of Flora and James is a re-working of a traditional broadside ballad, the original of which can be found in the archives at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. The original tells the story of Flora, a young girl who dresses as a man in order to follow her boyfriend to sea - but this modern day version has roles reversed, and it's James who joins the war to be with Flora.Cat's clever arrangement brings this story firmly in to the modern era, and affectionately pokes fun at the 'traditional' gender roles often featured in this type of song. It's a hearty song; funny, and fun to sing, and suitable for all ages.There is NO MINIMUM ORDER quantity on this arrangement, because I arrange all my songs to be taught by ear. Where Is JesusInspiration January 1st, 2021 was the start of my official retirement from a wonderful company that I had been employed at for 40+ years, Cirtronics Corporation. Where Is Jesus was my first retirement music so to speak. A 2 measure musical idea came to me in early January. Several weeks later I had the overall structure completed and started inputting the score into my music program. At this point I had no lyrical ideas, however with Easter approaching it occurred to me that the musics dramatic content leaned heavily towards Good Friday, in spirit. As I pondered that, I couldn't help but wonder what the disciples thought when Jesus was taken. Certainly they would question where he was, question what had happened. Thus was born Where is Jesus with the lyrical content asking and then answering. The Music The music is comprised of an A section which begins with the Tenors and Altos singing Where Is Jesus. The choir then responds (in chronological order, as recorded in the Gospels ) with lyrics that describe the brutality that Jesus endured. Here the weight of what has occurred is felt with the lyrics and music evoking great emotion. The B section follows; a retrospective look back sung by the soloist, stating that all had transpired as foretold, or as stated, by Jesus and the prophets. A C section is then introduced which contains the hope then, and the crux now, of our faith deaths chain cannot have its reign, he will rise, he will rise. After a short piano interlude we are returned to the A section, now modulated to a higher key; here the most emotional section of the music is felt with the raw truth of what has happened. He is nailed to the cross, he has died, we are lost. The piece then ends as it started Where Is Jesus, to be answered three days later.

It is light and fun, written in Italian, and follows a white cat (Bianchino) with different-colored eyes and an ENORMOUS yawn. It would be a great choice for an encore, or in a set of short, light pieces.

Part C is now faster with each voice getting a chance to shine with gorgeous melodic lines. This song can be sung by a high school choir or an adult choir. Published by David Rain, Choral Composer (A0.1091873). Erik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. For a long time, I felt there was an a cappella choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try. Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year. Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted. As dawn breaks was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful. NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different season, and so it seemed natural to group them together into a choral suite that I have called The Ottawa Four Seasons Suite. As dawn breaks works perfectly as the opening number of this suite. Finally, my instruction to choirs is to sing as if in a painting, and indeed I invite any artists who might draw inspiration from this piece to consider creating a companion work of art to accompany it.

An anthem composed by Philip le Bas especially suitable for church choirs during Lent (or Advent) and Holy Week. It might also be particularly suitable for Remembrance services.The Jacobean poet Phineas Fletcher’s passionate prayer of repentance is here set to music for SATB choir and organ. In a series of pulsating descending scales the author’s words express heartfelt remorse for his sins, reflecting the story of Jesus and the weeping woman in Luke 7:36ff. This is real, deep sorrow and regret, looking to the Prince of Peace for forgiveness: at one poignant moment the music reaches a point of stillness as the slow tears continue to fall. The weeping then turns to anger, crying for vengeance, because sin doth never cease. The music rises to an intense climax, but suddenly vanishes; the anger is, after all, self-directed. Finally the text returns to a prayer of supplication to drown all my faults and fears, and the harmonies end with a hope-filled hint of future healing. Drop, drop, slow tears, and bathe those beauteous feet, which brought from heaven the news and Prince of Peace. Cease not, wet eyes, his mercies to entreat; to cry for vengeance, sin doth never cease.
