Eleven of the sonnet's fourteen lines have been set for SATB a capella choir, (with some doubling), including the familiar Give me your tired, your poor, section. When the text refers to the Statue as Mother of Exiles, sixteen foreign language translations of that title are overlapped in layers of increasing rhythmic complexity. The music contrasts sections of taut dissonance between expansive phrases of harmonious warmth. Mother of Exiles is a perfect vehicle for high school, college and professional choirs seeking an inspirational anthem of compassion in times of need.

Bach, consists in a counterpoint explosion of the harmonies through a melodic construction that sometimes corresponds to one of the themes identifiable in the original piece and sometimes has been entirely reinvented; to facilitate the vocal performance of each of the four voices, Alessio Niccolai adapted a text to the musical sequences: it is made up of a set of ancient Latin proverbs.The execution is not the easiest: a casual pronunciation of Italian is certainly optimal for being able to correctly execute the Latin passages. Furthermore, the organ has its own native difficulty which could be significantly reduced with the performance on the piano (possibly in combination with an instrument that operates in the lower registers of the sound range) because the percussion of the hammers increases the auditory perception of the rhythm.However, the performance is not impossible even for an advanced amateur choir and guarantees an impact on the public.The idea of a transcription for choir of a purely organist work like this, was born in Alessio Niccolai's head from his first listening.

The text comes from the Gospel according to Luke (Luc. 1:46-55) and describes the visitation of the pregnant Theotokos to her cousin Elisabeth and her joy and gratitude as the baby leaped in her womb. This work is a effort to combine the Byzantine musical tradition with western music choral polyphony and has been performed to inspiring response. This passage from Psalm 42 has been a comfort to me in trying times. I set out to compose a musical setting of the text in hopes that the words and music may be of comfort to others too in seasons of grief, adversity, or doubt. “My tears have been my food both day and night, and all the time, people ask, ‘Where is your God?’ But each day, the Lord pours His unfailing love upon me, and through the night, I sing His songs, praying to God who gives me life.†(Psalm 42:3, 8). The piano reduction in the choir score is intended for rehearsal purposes but may serve as accompaniment in performance if needed. After I finished composing this piece, I was inspired to create a transcription for Concert Band as well. The transcription is available and may be performed separately or combined with the choir for more impact if desired.

Psalm 145 is a new motet for Soprano, Bass, Cello, and piano, with a lovely chorale (for SATB chorus or quartet) as the final movement. The text is significant in that it is the only biblical psalm to bear the inscription, a psalm of praise. Comprised of six movements, the work draws on traditional conventions of dramatic music from the 17th and 18th centuries, with brief but smooth forays into modern idioms with the stunning pentatonic stillness of the third movement and the sensitive and colorful harmony of the sixth. The work stands as a whole, yet each movement may be performed independently as well. Psalm 145 is suitable for a worship service or as a concert work. Purchase of this work entitles the original purchaser to make any copies needed for performance. Full score and cello parts are included.
