The melody and lyrics were first published in 1910 in John Lomax's Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads, though the song has existed long before publication in the anonymous aural tradition of folk music. Since selling cattle was quite profitable, a crew of cowboys drove a herd, particularly from Texas, to railheads where they would be loaded into railcars and shipped cross-country to get the best price at market. Cowboys watched the cattle 24 hours a day, herding them in the proper direction in the daytime and watching them at night to prevent stampedes and deter theft. Around the campfire, cowboys sang of life on the trail with all the challenges, hardships, and dangers encountered along the way.E. C. Who We Love by Sam Smith is a moving ballad that has beautiful harmonic integrity. This arrangement is for average- to larger-sized SATB a cappella groups, and sits at a intermediate-advanced difficulty for high school/collegiate groups. This arrangement is similarly for the a cappella group looking to explore cluster chords while fulfilling a slow, but moving ballad slot for your song set. While there isn’t a vocal percussionist part in the score, there is a slight amount of body percussion involved in the second verse, which can be replaced by a vocal percussionist if desired.This arrangement features incredible harmonies, including many cluster chords that sound full and rich; these cluster chords are often met with two- and occasionally three-part splits within each voice part, which makes it crucial for each part to be solid. If your group does not have enough members to satisfy the three-part splits, one of the notes can be omitted for a similar sounding product. Additionally, there are two solo opportunities featured, each with the exact same range. If only one solo is desired, the soloist can simply follow the melody. Tom Kelly advised him to change the first stanza, to make the song more salable in the international music scene, and together they proposed their song to the American singer Cyndi Lauper, who agreed to interpret it, provided that he could completely modify the arrangement. The original score was in fact in the form of a gospel ballad with accompaniment to the piano.A too traditional choice for Cyndi, who submitted her new version to Billy and Tom, getting their enthusiastic consent. Thus, in 1986, it was born True Colors, one of the most important songs of the pop artist. Perhaps the most often-sung processional hymn on Palm Sunday, “Ride On, Ride On in Majesty†was written in 1820 by Anglican cleric, poet, and scholar Henry Hart Milman (1791-1868) and first  published in Reginald Heber’s Hymns Written and Adapted to the Weekly Church Service of the Year (1827). The hymn references Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem prior to his Passion, as recorded in Matthew 21:1-11.Writing for the Hymnology Archive of The Hymn Society in the US and Canada, editor Chris Fenner notes in his analysis of the text that:“This hymn ... is much less a narrative or paraphrase of the triumphal entry (Matt. 21, Mk. 11, Lk. 19, Jn. 12) than it is a forward-looking hymn pointing from the palms to the cross to [Jesus’] ascended position on the throne. The triumphal entry itself is a fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9 (‘Behold, your king is coming to you . . . humble and mounted on a donkey’). The recurring opening line is possibly an allusion to Psalm 45:4 (‘in thy majesty ride prosperously’). “Some hymnological commentators connect this hymn with the idea of the great reversal in Philippians 2:5-12, where we find the Christ who humbled himself in a crucified death, later to be exalted, name above all names, to which every knee will bow. As Canadian hymn scholar Stanley Osborne observed, this hymn’s poetic strength is in its exploration of that duality:'Objective, robust, confident, and stirring, it possesses that peculiar combination of tragedy and victory which draws the singer into the very centre of the drama. One of the most loved Christmas tunes made famous by the ultimate crooner, Bing Crosby, I'll Be Home For Christmas resonates with me every year as I have been living in the UK since 2012. It speaks of the desire to return home for the special time of year to share in the celebration with family and friends. But in a small twist, the last line of the song is if only in my dreams, leaving us to consider those around the world who are displaced from their loved ones.This arrangement is in a simple ballad style and features the melody in the soprano and tenor voices. The harmony is chromatic in parts, but with good voice leading to assist with the learning of this jazz-infused tune. The bass part mainly anchors down the harmony, with a dm consonant aiming to recreate a jazz double bass sound. Soft consonants and sweet do sounds will ensure a smooth ballad style. Ranges are within a standard choir set, so this should be performable by most community choirs with basic reading ability. Beautifully laid out in A4 size, the score and parts are easy to read and available NOW for digital download.
