De Leo avrebbe compiuto i suoi studi musicali al conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini, sotto la direzione di Nicola Fago, soprannominato il tarentino[1]. Girolamo Chigi, maestro di Cappella di San Giovanni in Laterano, allievo e amico di Pitoni, dice che de Leo si recò a Roma e che vi studiò il contrappunto sotto la guida di questo sapiente maestro. Di ritorno a Napoli, de Leo ottenne il posto di secondo maestro al conservatorio della Pietà . Nel 1716 fu nominato organista della cappella reale e l'anno successivo venne designato per occupare il posto di maestro di cappella della chiesa di Santa Maria della Solitaria, per la quale scrisse molta musica. Nel 1719 fece rappresentare la Sofonisba, sua prima opera seria che fu ben accolta e in cui il carattere espressivo del suo talento si faceva già notare. I biografi che sostengono abbia insegnato al conservatorio di Loreto s'ingannano, fu infatti prima al conservatorio della Pietà , poi a quello di Sant'Onofrio, dove ebbe per allievi alcuni dei compositori più illustri del XVIII secolo, come Jommelli e Piccinni. Non morì nel 1743, come dice lo stesso Piccinni, in una breve notizia biografica sul suo maestro, né nel 1742 come afferma Burney, ma nel 1744. Il marchese di Villarosa, riferisce che de Leo sarebbe stato colpito da apoplessia, mentre era intento a scrivere un'aria buffa de La finta frascatana che comincia con queste parole: Voi par che gite/di palo in frasca. Lo si trovò con la testa appoggiata sul suo clavicembalo e si credette, in un primo momento che dormisse, ma in realtà aveva già cessato di vivere. Leo era di taglia media, colorito bruno, occhio vivo e temperamento ardente. Sebbene fosse abitualmente piuttosto serioso, non mancava di urbanità e gentilezza. Infaticabile nella professione, passava spesso la maggior parte delle notti a comporre e si trovava sempre in vena- Amava le sue opere, ma rendeva giustizia al merito dei suoi rivali quando occorreva. Morì rimpianto da tutti, lasciando a lungo il ricordo di sé e delle sue opere, nonché della scuola di cui fu uno dei fondatori. ATON is a stage play written by Manfred Strolz and Otmar Rützler which represents Egypt in the time of the Pharoahs but seen through the eyes of modern theatre directors and actors. The modern scenes are spoken but the Egyptian scenes require music, so Manfred and Otmar asked me to write the music for these. The music is composed for various forces as the play progresses, from the full orchestra (woodwind, strings, harp, piano, timpani) and choir down to more intimate moments with single voice or duets, flute and classical guitar or with single voice and bassoon. For each section the pdf file contains score and parts and the sound sample is an electronic preview. As I write 16 sections have been composed, but more are to come - please just search for Aton in due course for the full picture. The first performance is planned to take place in the Landestheater in Innsbruck during 2015 ================= ATON ist ein Bühnenstück von Manfred Strolz and Otmar Rützler geschrieben, das Ägypten von der Pharaonenzeit vorstellt aber auch duch die Augen moderner Direktoren und Schauspieler sieht. Die modernen Szenen sind gesprochen aber die ägyptischen Szenen brauchen Musik, deshalb haben mich Manfred und Otmar gebeten die Musik dafür zu schreiben. Die Musik ist für verschiedene Kräfte während des Stückes komponiert: vom vollen Orchester (Holzbläser, Streicher, Harfe, Klavier, Timpani) und Chor bis zu intimeren Augenblicken mit Solostimme (oder Duetten) mit Flöte und klassicher Gitarre oder Solostimme mit Fagott. Im Augenblick gibt es 16 Kompositionen, aber es wird noch mehr geben - bitte suche später nach Aton für das vollständige Bild. Für jede Komposition enhält die pdf-Datei Partitur und Stimmen und die mp3-Datei ist eine elektronische Vorschau. Es wird geplant, die erste Aufführung im Landestheater Innsbruck im Jahre 2015 stattzuhalten.

Various phrases and verses were used in the United States Navy Hymn, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” and alluded to in the United States Space Force Hymn, “Creator of the Universe.” Former Air Force Chaplain and Officer, theologian and hymnist, Major James F. Linzey (Ret.), believed that military hymns should not be waltzes. So he converted the timing of Mozart’s piece to four-four timing, giving the Air Force Hymn traditional timing that is fit for a hymn. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

But on October 3, 1775, Congress rejected it. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress changed courses and established the Continental Navy. This was the birth of the United States Navy. The Navy emerged from World War II as the most powerful Navy in the world.In 1860, William Whiting of Winchester, England, wrote a poem titled “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” for one of his students, who was preparing to sail for the United States. The poem alludes to Psalm 107 and is a prayer for God’s protection from seafaring danger. In 1861, Rev. John Bacchus Dykes, an Anglican clergyman, composed the tune “Melita,” in 88 88 88 iambic meter, to accompany the hymn. “Melita” is the archaic name of Malta, which is an ancient seafaring nation. It was the site of the shipwreck that involved the Apostle Paul, as described in the Acts of the Apostles, chapters 27–28. In 1814, Malta became the Crown Colony of the United Kingdom, but in 1964 it gained independence and joined the British Commonwealth. The hymn has long been used by Navy and civilian chaplains during chapel services at sea, in navy and civilian maritime contexts. The Royal Navy, navies of the British Commonwealth, and the United States Navy adopted the hymn in the late 19th century as “The Navy Hymn.” Many verses have been written to Melita. James F. Linzey selected the four verses by Whiting (verses 1-3) and Hamilton (verse 4), which are the verses traditionally used in the Armed Forces Hymnal. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

The Brindisi (drinking song), Libiamo ne’ lieti calici (Let’s drink from the joyful chalices) is the famous duet from the Italian opera La traviata (1853) by Giuseppe Verdi, and perhaps one of the best known opera melodies in all the operatic repertoire. This ‘arrangement’ is a practical performance arrangement scored for (reduced to) 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment; its aim is to ease the work of the pianist not having to deal with the many necessary page turns. it also is a practical alternative for an SATB solo quartet to perform as an ensemble. Pupils also could practice the same lesson in different keys for educational and musical purposes. Each arietta is accompanied by historical notes, interpretative advice and handwritten notes (where present indicate in italics) by Vaccaj himself. All the verses of Metastasio have been rewritten with the orthoepic accents correctly marked on all words of dubious Italian pronunciation. The phonosyntactic doublings are also indicated. An orthoepic legend precedes the method. The appendix includes both the detailed historical notes of each work from which the verses are taken, and the series of intervals to be sung that Vaccaj wrote for the historical editions. The basso continuo has also been made of these sung solfeggios to facilitate their performance by young pianists. This new complete edition of the work, edited in the graphics and paginated from scratch for easier and clearer reading, is further enriched by the precious presentation of Maestro Antonio Juvarra.
