Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1074352 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 32 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #678653. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1074352). PROGRAM NOTES As of the present writing, this choral tone poem had been gestating for over thirty years, and the concept and harmonies for it for over forty years. In the 1980s I began to work with the latter two in my brief orchestral piece Little Sea Nocturne. When reading the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849), I am most struck by how musical they are. When recited aloud they exhibit their own rhythmic sense. I was eager to incorporate those rhythms into my music. I had long been familiar with his poem The City In the Sea and began to sketch choral passages for the present choral tone poem in the 1990s. It took me until 2022 to complete it because I required many more years of experience at my craft to do so to lead into out of the choruses. In 2012 I completed a seven-minute unaccompanied version of the choruses with music unique to and unifying it simply called The City In the Sea. In composing The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem, my goal was to write a piece that, while steeped in tradition, sounds unlike anything in the literature that had come before it. The result is an original hybrid work that successfully and memorably combines salient aspects of the tonal, atonal, and modal musical languages into an organic whole. George Perle coined the term “twelve-tone tonality†to describe the music of Alban Berg and composers influenced by him such as Luigi Dallapiccola. The last title of which I am aware that accomplishes anything remotely related to what I am trying to accomplish musically in this choral tone poem is the piece Paradiso Choruses by Donald Martino (1974). However, I take twelve-tone tonality in entirely other directions in my work. That the duration of The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem came out to be thirteen minutes seems appropriate for piece about a sunken city. Rather than write program notes that narrate how the music unfolds I will simply shout out the most memorable aspects of what careful listeners will discern: a recurring heartbeat motif; shifting polychordal harmonies; echo technique; rhythmic diminutions and augmentations; an a cappella chorus featuring those harmonies with a surprisingly memorable recuring theme on top; sensuous flute duets; string section underpinnings by way of either sustained passages or wave-like gestures; tritone-related melodies, harmonies, and tone centers; several strategically placed grand pauses; tritone-related modal-sounding passages; melodic and chord clusters, especially the two climactic ones. INSTRUMENTATION 2 Flutes (2. doubles on Piccolo) 2 Oboes (2. doubles on English Horn) 2 Bb Clarinets 2 Bassoons 2 F Horns 2 C Trumpets 2 Trombones Tuba Timpani Percussion (Gong, Bass Drum, Chimes, Glockenspiel) Harp Strings DURATION 13:00 Stanley M. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1076393 Composed by Kevin G. Pace (ASCAP), Mary Ann W. Snowball. Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Octavo. 194 pages. Kevin G. Pace #680550. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1076393). Have you ever wondered how to have a really happy life? In Matthew 5-7 in The New Testament and in 3 Nephi 12-14 in The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, our Savior teaches us the way to contentment and happy living through The Beatitudes. These gems of Christian living were taught by Jesus as the initial part of the most well-known of his teachings called The Sermon on the Mount. The word “beatitude†comes from the Latin “beatitudo†meaning “blessedness.†Each of the eight beatitudes in this book consists of two phrases: the condition and the result. Together, these illustrate a set of ideals focusing on love and humility, echoing the highest of Jesus’ teachings on spirituality and compassion. Each also promises a future reward, and the themes appear to escalate from beginning to advancing levels of responsibility and spirituality as the Sermon progresses. By the end of the Sermon a recipient would have earned the reward to stand ceremonially in the presence of God, and to ultimately gain the greatest reward of living with Him in heaven. The purpose of this book is to praise our Lord through song and text, rejoicing in the gifts we receive from Him as we do as He suggests. Please enjoy this collection of original solos, SATB choral renditions, and a duet, along with a short text explaining each beatitude in the order our Savior spoke them so many years ago as part of the greatest sermon ever given, our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount! It was a joy to prepare them for you. Happy Living!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240133 Composed by Debbie Allen. Children,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Folk,Historic. Octavo. 14 pages. Nottingham Scores #835514. Published by Nottingham Scores (A0.1240133). Mystery of the Hills is an S.A.T.B. choral work describing the wonder of the Flint Hills, a region in East Central Kansas.  I’m not a native Kansan, but whenever I drive through this area, I am enthralled by the infinite sense of expanse and gently rolling terrain. Geologists believe there was an inland seaway that covered central North America starting 290 million years ago. Over time, alternating layers of hard limestone and softer shale rocks formed. It is believed erosion caused the varied elevations of terrain, unique to the slopes of the Flint Hills. These surface layers of limestone and chert prevented the settler’s ability to farm, which in turn preserved the integrity of the soil. Today, the prairie grasses can reach 10 feet tall if not managed.  The rich grasses are prime for feeding livestock. This music attempts to provide images of traveling through the Flint Hills today, while imagining changes over eons of time, due to weather and eventually, human interaction.  Generally, the upper voices provide the imagery and some history, while the lower voices describe a bedrock foundation.  Describing the rock foundation found in the Flint Hills is also a metaphor for human strife and struggle as man, among living flora and fauna, interact with the area. The vocal ranges and harmonies are accessible for young ensembles, whether in development or with years of experience.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.891208 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Gunnar Madsen, Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106157. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891208). If you are looking to lighten your concert, to program real music, or a piece with rapid text delivery satisfying to mid-level HS choirs and community choirs with adult choral beginners, bring this hilarious 3 minute piece to your outstanding accompanist-pianist and your developing ensemble. Debuted for choir during an educational outreach concert for children with families, Mozart's At the Window is also an effective selection or encore for a Mozart concert, or standing on its own. Piece features lots of vocal doubling and is fully supported by a pianistic reduction-- this piece shines with an amazing accompanist. The choral arranger writes: After getting absolutely sick of the inane music I'd been playing for my young children in the car, I was elated to discover Gunnar Madsen's CD I'm Growing featuring Mozart's At the Window. The kids were delighted with this funny song about some naughty kid, and my husband and I were delighted with the enormous improvement of musical quality in our vehicle. It was shortly thereafter that this choral arrangement was born.Gunnar writes: In my first music theory class in college, the teacher and the students were recalling the silly ways they'd been taught to remember classical melodies when they were young. One of them was for Mozart's 40th symphony (which I'd never heard) which consisted of Now Mozart's at the window - Let him in, Let him in, Let him in. What an ear-worm! For 25 years now I've dreamt of expanding that ditty into something more substantial, and now I'm proud to present the finished piece. I'm really going to get a kick of sending this one to my teacher! Also available in Two-Part Treble voicing.Music abridged from W. A. Mozart's Symphony No.40 in G minor, K.550 IV. SATB chorus divisi - Digital Download SKU: BJ.1370 Composed by Henrik Dahlgren. Secular. Octavo. 12 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1370. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1370). 8.27 x 11.7 inches. In 2017, I was commissioned by the male voice choir Svanholm Singers to write a work for inclusion in a concert marking 70 years since the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Choosing a text was difficult. I came across upon a poem by Maya Angelou, but it struck me as being too powerful and emotional for the music I was writing to carry it; everything I composed sounded banal next to Angelou's words. I soon realized that I could use silence to enhance the text, rather than heaping layers and layers of music upon it. Silence is both terrifying and serious - in a sense, it is the only adequate counterpoint to the poetry. So, I decided to build the piece on silence. Though the beginning of the piece is the opposite of silence - a scream of desperation -, I followed that outburst by cutting the poem's stanzas into single words, repeated in a different order each time, almost in the manner of a mantra. Finally, they end up in the right order and suddenly the words take on their rightful meaning. I hope, in this way, the music is equally powerful as the words. Son to Mother has been well-received and has gone on to become one of the most widely performed pieces I have written. It has been performed at various festivals and in various countries, including Taiwan, France and China - where it only just made it past the government censors. - Henrik DahlgrenThis version is an adaptation for mixed choir of the original male choir version. Henrik Dahlgren is a Swedish composer, born 1991. He has been studying at the Academy Of Music in Malmo with Prof. Rolf Martinsson and the Royal College Of Music in London with Dr. Haris Kittos. Henrik started his musical career as a drummer and has ever since worked in a very wide range of different genres and styles, both as a performer and as a composer.

Alto Voice,Bass Voice,Piano Accompaniment,Soprano voice,Tenor Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1318498 Composed by Phillips Brooks and Lewis H Redner. Arranged by Connie Boss. Christian,Christmas,Holiday. 10 pages. Connie Boss #907165. Published by Connie Boss (A0.1318498). This version has an optional beginning. I have choir humming for the first three measure. There is a soloist that starts singing after that. The optional part is to not play the piano until half way through the verse. There is accompaniment if you prefer. The Claims of the Son 1: The Word, the Light, the Lifeoriginal song for SATB choir and piano by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ based on John 1♫ The purpose of this collection is to look closely at the I Am’s of the Gospel of John. The individual titles have been composed over many years in various ensemble types. The songs have been added to, reworked, expanded, and made consistent in this publication for SATB choir with piano. A narration has been added to unify the themes of the songs. Of course, each of these songs can be performed separately as stand-alone choral works.♫ This song is not based on an “I Am†statement but refers to Apostle John’s opening portrait of Christ.♫ These claims of Jesus Christ are very much like a series of portraits of a person. Instead of calling “The Claims of the Son†a cantata, the composer chose the term “polyptych†[pu LIP tich]. A polyptych is a work of art consisting of 4 or more pieces or panels, that together create a single presentation. This work for SATB, Marimba, French Horn and drums can be performed substituting a piano for the Marimba, or using an electronic keyboard, if the instrumentation is hard to come by. In the attached .mp3 it is sung by Matthew Curtis to an electronic recording of the instruments. Contact connie@deephum.com to obtain an electronic recording of the instrumentals. The song is one of many found in the novel, The Earth Woman Tree Woman Quartet, also written by Connie Pwll Walck Tyler. It is a call for people to see themselves as part of the whole earth, to join the Dance of Life, the central metaphor of the novel. It opens with a haunting call by the French Horn, and then the tenors, before the drums, marimba, and the other voices join. There is a soprano descant at measure 71 that can be sung as a solo. Peace, peace, laughter and dance, joy and life for us all. Sing your tears, sing your fears.... The piece is about four minutes long. The words are:Arise! Arise!Open up your heart.Open up your heart to the Dance of Life!Arise! Arise!Open up your eyes. Open up your eyes,Arise! Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774724 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Sandra Milliken. Folk,World. Octavo. 14 pages. Sandra Milliken #3873279. Published by Sandra Milliken (A0.774724). The Old Palmer Song is a favourite Australian folk song that is meant to be sung in a rollicking style that reflects the excitement and anticipation of hardy Australian colonials setting out in search of gold. Following hard on the heels of the great California gold rushes (1848 – 1855) came the discovery of payable quantities of gold in Australia. The first gold rush in Australia began in New South Wales in May 1851 after prospector Edward Hargraves discovered gold near Orange, at a site he called Ophir. Other discoveries quickly followed, including those at Ballarat and Bendigo in the colony of Victoria. Then came Rosewood and Gympie (1867) in Queensland; the Gawler region in South Australia in 1868; and Halls Creek (1885), Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie (1893) in Western Australia. One of Australia’s richest alluvial goldfields was that of the Palmer River in far north Queensland. The rush to the Palmer began in 1873 and lasted for about three years. The goldfields were nearly 100 miles inland from the small coastal settlement of Cooktown and the early prospectors had a hard time of it just getting to the field. Leaving Cooktown they crossed the coastal mangroves, then on through dense tropical rainforest, into the more open eucalypt forest beyond and then across the dry, inhospitable and rugged country of the hinterland dissected by wide and deep rivers. And always there was the risk of meeting with fierce resistance from the Aborigines whose tribal land they were travelling through. At the height of the rush there were around 35,000 prospectors on the Palmer (including a great many Chinese). By the time the rush was over, the Palmer had yielded over 100 tons of gold! The Old Palmer Song is set to the tune of Ten Thousand Miles Away, a shore ballad/sea shanty that probably originated in Ireland in the early 19th Century.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.719732 Composed by Various. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Sacred. Octavo. 11 pages. Curtis Hanson #4573009. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719732). As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal/choral tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The general concept of each medley is to present the hymn, often in its original chorale form, and then vary its harmony or texture. The hymns in this set include Holy, Holy, Holy, For All the Saints, and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.

Kevin G. Pace #806402. Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.1208296). A stunningly beautiful, sacred composition for SATB choir.  Music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball.  Depicting the miracle of Jesus curing the man by the Pool of Bethesda.Text:By Bethesda’s special pool, each day they did wait.Blind and halt and withered there, each to not be late.By the pool the crippled lay; healing was the goal.Ere an angel’s touch was stirred, not one would be whole.Years and years a man stayed near, but with none to aid. Then the Savior came, unknown, to surround and stay.Wilt thou be made whole? was asked by the Healer there.I can’t reach the pool myself. These pains I must bear.Wilt thou be made whole? I can ease thy load. Can I heal thy sun-parched soul? May I make thee whole?Rise, and take thy bed and walk. These words Jesus spoke.Soon the man was cleansed and healed, as if he awoke.Had full faith been shown that day from this aged man?Can we also trust our Lord? Will we take his hand?By our own Bethesda pools in a sacred space,He can clearly mend our cares through (by) his wondrous grace. We can also rise like him o’er our doubts and fearsAs we linger, patiently, listening to hear.We can be made whole when his hand we hold.He can heal our holy souls; He will make us whole.

The hymns in this set are Children of the Heavenly Father, Day by Day, Thy Holy Wings, and Beautiful Savior. A note on the texts in this set: Having grown up in a Swedish Lutheran church, the grandson of Swedish/Norwegian immigrants, and currently being choir director of another Swedish Lutheran church, these hymns have a special place for me. This set was originally arranged for my church choir with the first verse of each in Swedish. Being under copyright, permission was obtained to use the more familiar English translations of the first three songs for local use. For this edition, I have opted to create my own texts for the first and third hymns while the second is a translation in public domain. I have also provided a verse in English in lieu of the Swedish for those Nordically challenged. The fourth hymn is not a Swedish melody but for obvious reasons is a mainstay of the Lutheran hymnal. Like the other hymns, the first verse is in Swedish while the other traditional verses are also public domain.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841363 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn, Samuel Arnold, and William H. Cummings. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Octavo. 18 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #6098159. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841363). This year's Christmas publication choice fell on a song very dear to me: Hark! The herald angels sing. The text, inspired by Luke’s Gospel (2:14), appears for the first time in a collection of Christmas carols called Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1739, jointly written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788 ) and George Whitefield (1714-1770), two of the founding members of the Methodist movement. The version we know today is the one adapted by William H. Cummings (1831-1915) from the section Vaterland, in deinen Gauen of the Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest, WoO 9, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847). The story, however, is more complex and articulated than that. The original version of the text, written by Wesley, bearing the title Hymn for Christmas-Day, had received only slow and solemn music for its verses, music now almost completely discarded. Also, his original opening lines were Hark! How all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings .The version that has been passed to us is the result of alterations made by different hands, especially those of Whitefield, who changed the initial couplet into the one we know today. In 1840-one hundred years after the publication of Hymns and sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata commemorating Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable-type printing. The English musician William H. Cummings finally adapted Mendelssohn’s music around 1855 in order to fit the music to the verses and give it its present look.In this edition we propose the version that every listener expects to hear when reading the title on the programme and, immediately after, one of the few original versions that have reached us in their entirety, that is the one set to music by Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) and available today in The British Minstrel, and Musical and Literary Miscellany, vol. 3, published in 1843.The proposed instrumentations are those of the classical string quartet and the cello quartet. Both variants are very simple to perform and are certainly suitable for small string ensembles formed in musical schools. In the cello quartet version, the only relatively complex part is that of the first cello, which should be left to the teacher or to a student able to play up to the 7th position without excessive troubles.I hope this music can bring you the serenity that made me prepare it.

Choral Choir (Mixed) - Digital Download SKU: A0.921015 Composed by Stephen Hamlin. Contemporary,Musical/Show. Octavo. 66 pages. Stephen Hamlin #23277. Published by Stephen Hamlin (A0.921015). The Apocamish is a musical satire book telling the tale of the Gomez Family’s struggle for survival against hordes of Amish zombies. At the peak of one civilization, solar flares reached earth disrupting all the electricity. The loss of electricity however was not the worse problem. When the solar flares hit Upperton Village, the quaint peaceful Amish were mutated into wretched flesh seeking zombies thus fully transforming them into the Apocamish. Felix Gomez was among the first survivors of the Dawn of the Apocamish. For forty years he survived Apocamish tyranny of and raised a tenacious zombie killing family. In this song collection, characters sing about their trials with the Apocamish with upbeat songs like 'S.O.L. You Apocamishes', 'Now They Are Hungry Starving Monsters', 'The Key to Survive', 'Who Were They Before They Turned Into Zombies', and the 'Apocamish Apocalypse'. While other tales of apocalypses are tragic and forlorn this tale shows how life was always grand, in Apocamish Land.

A gentle setting for chorus and keyboard, rich in melody and harmony, of Dorothy Parker's poem. The things she knew, let her forget again-The voices in the sky, the fear, the cold,The gaping shepherds, and the queer old menPiling their clumsy gifts of foreign gold.Let her have laughter with her little one;Teach her the endless, tuneless songs to sing,Grant her her right to whisper to her sonThe foolish names one dare not call a king.Keep from her dreams the rumble of a crowd,The smell of rough-cut wood, the trail of red,The thick and chilly whiteness of the shroudThat wraps the strange new body of the dead.Ah, let her go, kind Lord, where mothers goAnd boast his pretty words and ways, and planThe proud and happy years that they shall knowTogether, when her son is grown a man.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1277132 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Christian,Classical,Latin. Octavo. 128 pages. Adrian Gagiu #868444. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1277132). Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27, vocal score and piano part (for rehearsal purposes only). Based on its Neo-classical style, this setting of the Roman Catholic mass text could possibly work as a festive mass (missa solemnis) with trumpets and timpani, and its duration would fit such a solemn service. However, its intense and sometimes dramatic treatment and universal addressability due to its well-known and rather concentrated text, yet also due to eliminating the „Filioque†(which would still fit the rhythm of the repeated „qui ex Patreâ€, should any Catholics ever wish to perform this as a mass) make it rather a „liturgical oratorio for all nationsâ€, more appropriate in the concert hall. The work has had a long gestation: imagined in 1984 after the composer’s first contact with Beethoven’s masterpiece, then sketched first in 1987-1989, and many of its themes date back from those years. Its working out is quite polyphonic, discretely modal and cyclical, and also full of centuries-old musical symbols traditionally associated with the setting of the mass text: e.g. unisons for the more dogmatical parts, Baroque dotted rhythms at the Nativity (the first coming of the  King of Kings), „rex caelestis†and also at his Passion (whose setting is discretely inspired by folkloric Romanian laments), the „anabasis†gesture at „Gloria in excelsis Deoâ€, „et ascendit in caelisâ€, „in remissionem peccatorum†and the resurrection, a flute trill standing for the Holy Spirit who has come ’like a dove’ at „et incarnatus estâ€, a cross-shaped texture at „crucifixusâ€, and some word-painting (hushed sonorities at „et invisibiliumâ€, anticipations between orchestra and chorus at „et exspecto†etc.). Moreover, certain symbolic roles are assigned to the instrumental groups when alone (the organ represents God the Father and transcendence, the winds and/or solo voices represent God the Son and humanity, and the strings represent the Holy Spirit). „Kyrie†is restrained and soft, besides the powerful chords opening the respective sections of its tripartite, simple structure, and it leans towards Palestrina’s serene modality and counterpoint. „Gloria†begins with a colorful orchestral introduction depicting discretely the shepherds who kept watch over their flocks right before the Nativity, and then gradually the bright revelation. „Credo†has an orchestral introduction as well, but powerful, recurring and based on the beginning of the plainchant hymn „Pange linguaâ€, made famous by Mozart’s last symphony and by other Classical composers. Both „Gloria†and „Credo†end with extended, powerful and elaborate fugues („in gloria Dei Patris†and „et vitam venturi saeculiâ€, respectively) with dramatic modulations and sometimes with enthusiastic syncopations at odds with the words’ accents, a la Stravinsky. The same sections plus „Agnus Dei†end with soft quartal harmonies suggesting transcendent appeasement (similar harmonies appear powerfully at the beginning of „Sanctusâ€). „Judicare†quotes the beginning of the well-known „Dies irae†plainchant tune, and the Consecration between the „Sanctus†and „Benedictus†sections is represented by a contemplative prelude for solo organ, quoting Lutheran chorales, too. Another long orchestral introduction, suggesting the Last Judgment and based on traditional Byzantine hymns, opens „Agnus Deiâ€, which includes another quotation (the famous ’Dresden Amen’ at „qui tollis peccata mundi†and „dona nobis pacemâ€). In the final section, with its refined simplicity, the choral voices enter in descending order, and the „Kyrie eleison†theme is briefly remembered, then it ends softly and peacefully. Total duration: 50 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is Kyrie.

The hymns in this set include Breathe on Me, Breath of God, Blest Be the Tie That Binds, and More Love to Thee, O Christ.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.953939 Composed by Andrew J. Boyle. Arranged by Lyrical Publishing. Celtic,Folk,World. Octavo. 8 pages. Lyrical Publishing #2897793. Published by Lyrical Publishing (A0.953939). Will Ye Go to the Indies: As a young man Scotland’s great poet, Robert Burns, fell in love with a girl he called Highland Mary, and persuaded her to emigrate with him to the West Indies. In the text of this song we hear the poem he wrote about those huge decisions. Tragically, Mary died before they could start their life together. Many years later, in 1792, Burns set the poem to an old Scottish folk song. To his publisher he explained: You must know, that all my earlier love-songs were the breathings of ardent Passion; and tho’ it might have been easy in aftertimes to have given them a polish, yet that polish would have defaced the legend of my heart.

Published by Marilena Zlatanou (A0.1343528). GREEK FOLK SONG: YOU WHO WANT TO BE BRAVE (Pedia san thelte levendia) arranged for SATB choir and pianoOne of many folk songs called “kleftikaâ€, describing the life and deeds of the freedom fighters under the Greek War of Independence from the 400 years' (500 years for half of Greece) Ottoman rule. The kleftes(=thieves), were outlawed guerillas hiding in the mountains and fighting from there. They received hero status as they played a most decisive role in the eventually resulting free, independent Greek State in 1828. duration: 1'55''Phonetic transcription in the Latin alphabet is notated right below the original Greek text, English translation, and a key to Greek Pronunciation are provided on the title page. The mp3 file provided is exported from the sibelius file. For more information on the arranger, (member of TONO, the Norwegian copyright org.), please visit website www.zlatanou.netAs a Greek living in Norway for most of my adult life, and in my many years’ work as a conductor of a Norwegian choir specializing in Greek music (!), I have experienced the need to enrich the choir’s repertoire with both folk song- as well as other -arrangements of Greek music: This gave me the opportunity to share with our audiences some of the centuries-long musical heritage, as well as helping me make known to them some of the History behind the music of a country of such international historical influence in the past, and such a tourist magnet in our times.
