A 100% completely accurate, faithful transcription in the original Pentatonix key of B Minor, complete with all complex and inner harmonies, counter melodies and descants, rescored for SATB choir and piano accompaniment without subdivided voice parts. There are no SSAATTBB divisi necessary and the whole arrangement/transcription can be sung to perfection without the need for complicated subdividing, therefore making this faithful transcription in every way entirely accessible for choirs which are not advanced but who would love to sing and sound like the original Pentatonix setting, including in their original key. The Soprano line is therefore never high and rarely rises above treble clef middle line B natural (there is one phrase requiring fourth line D) but the Tenor line requires a number of top line F sharps, but never higher.

The arrangement is fun and easy, and was actually written with smaller and perhaps poorly balanced choirs in mind: there are never more than three parts to the harmony, so one of the four sections is always doubling one of the others, in a rotating fashion! The notes and rhythms are very straightforward, and although the Gaelic words are a bit tongue-twisting, a mere five bars' worth -- five short text fragments -- serve for the whole song, and a phonetic approximation of the pronunciation is provided. The piece is only about a minute long, so it makes a good encore, or a fast and flashy finale for a folksong set!

Hebrew.Viktor Ullmann composed his choral arrangements of Hebrew, Yiddish and Chassidic songs in the ghetto of Theresienstadt in 1943/1944. In the function of “Head of the Studio for New Musicâ€, Ullmann made a significant contribution to the so-called “leisure activities†in the ghetto. The works were evidently intended for the repertoire of the various choirs at Theresienstadt, including children’s choirs such as the Karel Vrbas Youth Choir in which Ullmann’s son Max also sang. There is no evidence to confirm that Ullmann’s choral works were actually performed in Theresienstadt, for example in one of the frequent concerts given by Rafael Schächter’s choir of up to a hundred voices (cf. Milan Kuna, Musik an der Grenze des Lebens, 21998. p.313). The German translations below first appeared in the song book Makkabi-Liederbuch published in Berlin in 1930 (2nd edition 1935) which was available to Viktor Ullmann as a source for the melodies and text orthography for his choral arrangements in Theresienstadt.

There are several versions of this text (of variable length), all them used to begin in the same way (Lorem ipsum … elit) but goon in different fashions. Therefore, I also invented part of the text, taking care of the metric, structural parallelisms and some hidden allusion to popular music (Tellus, ventus et ignis is Earth, Wind and Fire). The last sentence has even some sense: Verbum sapientes defendit means that the word defends to those who know. In the coda, since it is vocally much more practical to finish in m than in t, I changed the last word: dolor sit ipsum, what carries the existentialist message that pain is oneself.  Musically, the form is a rondo, with an obsessive refrain (based on the sentence we are commenting) which reappears without modifications.  This piece was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 18, 19 and 20 May 2015 (as if from a handbook: one day the text, the following day the music and on the third one big adjustements and the definitive precisions). What is Wisdom?In Proverbs 8:5-11 she says,Learn prudence, acquire intelligence, …take my instruction instead of silver,and knowledge rather than choice gold,for Wisdom is better than jewels. This suite of three songs is appropriate for use in a Christian or Jewish religious service or a secular concert. It includes a short audience participation possibility at the end of the last song. All are written for flute, piano, ethnic drum, SATB plus a high soprano part that can be a soloist. The drum part is written out, but could be improvised. The first song, Hear My Call, is short (1:49) and could be used as a call to worship in a religious service. The second song, God Created Me, (4:36) is an anthem of praise using the wonderful words of the creation of Wisdom in Proverbs 8:22-36 with a descant of the creation story in the book of Ben Sira 24:3, found in the Apocrypha. The tenors and basses sing the comparison of Wisdom with the trees of Israel, also found in Ben Sira, all in praise of Wisdom. The third song, Choose Life, (1:16) includes a chant that can be sung by the congregation or audience along with the choir. This could be used as the final hymn in a religious service. All three songs can be used separately or together. At the end of the score you will find a copy of the congregational chant which can be copied and placed in an Order of Service or Program. Purchase includes the right to make eight photocopies. For additional copies please purchase another score from sheetmusicplus.com. The recording is electronically produced and therefore has choral oohs without words. All three songs are on the recording, and at the end there is a flute rendering of the chant.. This is not intended to stand alone, but to be sung, as directed, with the last part of the choir song, Choose Life.

The 40-page score is a choral symphony with a powerful lesson to modern people, based on an old Danish folk song about the young super-hero Ramund. The score is dense with contents, both musically and lyrically, and alone for that reason, the 8-minute performance takes an advanced choir.The original folk song dates back to the Viking age and consist of many episodes ofRamund's life, almost like a personal saga. Some have undoubtedly been added later,making the total number of stanzas go up around 50, but the main idea of the song isto report about a young lad, whose ideas of what is right for him to do or not doare completely unaffected by other people's opinions, including those of royalties andcelebrities. The stories are in many regards comparable to those of Beowolf.Although the stories generally are dramatic and bloody, Ramund always retains hiscool attitude and shows how unimpressed he is with power demonstrations, even hisown when he is provoked to use his strength. It is a common element throughout thestories that Ramund detests evil and aggression, and he goes to great lengths to fightpower abusers and aggressive elements. He just wants to live in peace and not haveto be bothered by all those who like to abuse power!Included in this presentation for piano and 8 voices are 11 stanzas from what is believedto be original, in English translation, with focus on clarity of meaning, more so thanpoetical rules and rhymes. The first ruling concept has been to obtain clarity and agreat fit to the music. The second concept has been to add the inspiration this old folksong has created in the mind of a modern rebel who would like to see some ofRamund's attitude to power and power abusers put into action in our modern corruptsociety. Maybe in a less bloody version, but definitely with a similar effect! The added2 stanzas and the attached coda, as well as the added lyrics to the intermezzos and theincorporated commentaries to the action should serve that purpose.In addition, the original tune itself, as well as the lyrics and the intermezzo, haveinspired some musical development throughout the piece, to further accentuate themeaning and the messages about respecting each other, standing together againstabuse, and not letting power abusers get away with their crimes.The 8 voices cover ranges as follows: First sopranos: C4 through Bb5 (possibly G5); Second sopranos: C4 through E5; All altos: G3 through D5; All tenors: C3 through G#4(possibly F#4); First basses: F2 through D4; Second basses: D2 through B3

Gaudete for SATB choir and pianoThis Christmas Carol first appeared in print in a Finnish publication of 1582 entitled Piæ Cantiones Ecclesiasticæ et Scholasticæ Veterum Episcoporum. The æolian modal polyphony and Medieval Latin text suggest a much earlier date of composition originating from central Europe; the plainsong melody of the verses is derived from liturgical sources of the same period and was not included in the original document.This new arrangement of Gaudete is based closely on the original music and text. However, the original key of G minor has been transposed to D minor to create more variety in the voicing, yet remaining faithful to the original vocal parts.The piano accompaniment in the refrain is simply an amalgamation of the voices and therefore, in order to create a pure a cappella sound in performance, the piano part may be omitted and used solely for rehearsal purposes. As the verses were originally sung unaccompanied, the piano part in this arrangement has been devised to compliment the plainsong melody, but of course may be omitted in performance if preferred.Originally, each verse would probably have been sung by a solo tenor voice. However, in this arrangement, each of the four verses has been allocated to a different soloist.
