Questa comodità sarà senz’altro utile non solo ai pianisti accompagnatori (che avranno a portata di mano la stessa aria già trasposta), ma anche agli insegnanti. Gli allievi, inoltre, potrebbero esercitare la stessa lezione in tonalità diverse per fini didattici e musicali. Ogni arietta è corredata da note storiche, da consigli interpretativi e da note autografe (ove presenti indicate in corsivo) del Vaccaj stesso. Al fine di suggerire ai cantori la giusta dizione italiana, tutti versi del Metastasio sono stati riscritti con gli accenti ortoepici correttamente segnati su tutte le parole di dubbia pronuncia italiana. Sono altresì indicati i raddoppiamenti fonosintattici. Una legenda ortoepica precede il metodo. Nell’appendice sono incluse sia le note storiche dettagliate di ciascuna opera da cui sono tratti i versi, sia la serie degli intervalli da cantare che il Vaccaj scrisse per le storiche edizioni. Di questi solfeggi cantati è stato realizzato anche il basso continuo per agevolarne l’esecuzione ai giovani pianisti. Questa nuova edizione completa dell’opera, curata nella veste grafica ed impaginata ex novo per una lettura più agevole e chiara, è arricchita ulteriormente dalla preziosa presentazione del M°Antonio Juvarra.This new edition of this historical method includes compositions written for all vocal extensions in three different keys.This convenience will certainly be useful not only to accompanying pianists, but also to teachers. Pupils also could practice the same lesson in different keys for educational and musical purposes. Each arietta is accompanied by historical notes, interpretative advice and handwritten notes (where present indicate in italics) by Vaccaj himself. All the verses of Metastasio have been rewritten with the orthoepic accents correctly marked on all words of dubious Italian pronunciation. The phonosyntactic doublings are also indicated. An orthoepic legend precedes the method. The appendix includes both the detailed historical notes of each work from which the verses are taken, and the series of intervals to be sung that Vaccaj wrote for the historical editions. The basso continuo has also been made of these sung solfeggios to facilitate their performance by young pianists. This new complete edition of the work, edited in the graphics and paginated from scratch for easier and clearer reading, is further enriched by the precious presentation of Maestro Antonio Juvarra.

Published by Thomas Rembert Coker Jr (A0.933612). About the hymn According to Scotty Wayne Gray’s description in Handbook to the Baptist Hymnal (1992), John Wesley first published Depth of Mercy! In 1740 under the heading After a Relapse into Sin. The original hymn included 13 four-line stanzas. Later, these were reduced to a more manageable four stanzas, here altered by Brenda Coker. This hymn has been very meaningful, especially in Methodist circles where it has been published in almost all of their hymnals. It clearly reflects the struggle of repentance and acceptance of God’s forgiveness in Christ. The tune is taken from the opening chorus of Carl Maria von Weber’s last opera, Oberon and was put in hymn format by the organist of the Center Church in Hartford, CT, Henry W. Greatorex, in 1851. About the arrangement Originally written in the late 70’s or early 80’s for the Sanctuary Choir at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, VA, this arrangement was published in 1998 by Alliance Music in Houston, TX. Given back to the composer about 2009, the current version uses the same page and bar numbers as the originally published version.

This choral work was commissioned by the superb Gloriea Dei Cantores choir from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After finding the text from an old hymn, Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise, O'Connor finished the choral piece to include unusual singing techniques with no other accompaniment except a violin obbligato weaving in and out of the choral textures for a unique combination of sound. The performance length is sixteen minutes.In the recording's liner notes, Mr. O'Connor writes: on a cold February morning I walked into their church, their house of worship and community. I experienced an inspirational devotion to music I'd never known. Under the leadership of Mother Betty, Gloria Dei Cantores voices sounded like angels descending from Heaven, delivering and rendering my music in a way that seemed to shake the rafters and elevate the spirit. This choral work was commissioned by the superb Gloriea Dei Cantores choir from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After finding the text from an old hymn, Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise, O'Connor finished the choral piece to include unusual singing techniques with no other accompaniment except a violin obbligato weaving in and out of the choral textures for a unique combination of sound. The performance length is sixteen minutes.In the recording's liner notes, Mr. O'Connor writes: on a cold February morning I walked into their church, their house of worship and community. I experienced an inspirational devotion to music I'd never known. Under the leadership of Mother Betty, Gloria Dei Cantores voices sounded like angels descending from Heaven, delivering and rendering my music in a way that seemed to shake the rafters and elevate the spirit. It was a magnificent sound borne of discipline and motivation, faithful love for craft and result. A glorious celebration... a joyous melding of mission and gift. This year's Christmas publication choice fell on a song very dear to me: Hark! The herald angels sing. The text, inspired by Luke’s Gospel (2:14), appears for the first time in a collection of Christmas carols called Hymns and Sacred Poems in 1739, jointly written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788 ) and George Whitefield (1714-1770), two of the founding members of the Methodist movement.The version we know today is the one adapted by William H. Cummings (1831-1915) from the section Vaterland, in deinen Gauen of the Festgesang zum Gutenbergfest, WoO 9, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847). The story, however, is more complex and articulated than that.The original version of the text, written by Wesley, bearing the title Hymn for Christmas-Day, had received only slow and solemn music for its verses, music now almost completely discarded. Also, his original opening lines were Hark! How all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings .The version that has been passed to us is the result of alterations made by different hands, especially those of Whitefield, who changed the initial couplet into the one we know today.In 1840-one hundred years after the publication of Hymns and sacred Poems-Mendelssohn composed a cantata commemorating Johann Gutenberg’s invention of movable-type printing. The English musician William H. Cummings finally adapted Mendelssohn’s music around 1855 in order to fit the music to the verses and give it its present look.In this edition we propose the version that every listener expects to hear when reading the title on the programme and, immediately after, one of the few original versions that have reached us in their entirety, that is the one set to music by Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) and available today in The British Minstrel, and Musical and Literary Miscellany, vol. 3, published in 1843.The proposed instrumentations are those of the classical string quartet and the cello quartet. Both variants are very simple to perform and are certainly suitable for small string ensembles formed in musical schools. In the cello quartet version, the only relatively complex part is that of the first cello, which should be left to the teacher or to a student able to play up to the 7th position without excessive troubles.I hope this music can bring you the serenity that made me prepare it.

This is a beautiful rendition of the familiar chant, keeping the intent of early chant and choral sound, but within a more contemporary harmonic palette. It begins simply and ends in a very uplifting, positive manner, with several transpositions along the way. However, the feeling of plainchant is always present in each variation as they evolve. This is the first of what I hope to be a collection of hymn arrangements for choir that follow the Christian Church Year, this one being Advent season. Of course it can be sung anytime that fits the situation, but I used the United Methodist Hymnal suggestion for an Advent hymn. The piano simulates bells and chimes, and the voices sometimes do also. A very uplifting arrangement, while not so difficult as to discourage choirs. It employs the concept of canon and contemporary harmonies. I hope you and your choir or choral organization enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

The History of the Four Immortal Chaplains and the United States Army HymnDuring World War II, four Army chaplains met at the Army Chaplains School at Harvard University. ere, they received training for their assignments in the European theater. They then boarded and sailed on the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester to report to their new assignments. The USAT Dorchester left New York on January 23, 1943, en route to Greenland. She carried about 900 military personnel and was escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3, 1943, the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. As the Dorchester sank on that fateful day of February 3, 1943, the four Army chaplains on board helped their soldiers board lifeboats as they handed out life jackets. When they ran out of life jackets, the chaplains gave their own life jackets to four soldiers that they might live. Then the chaplains joined arms and prayed as they went down with the Dorchester. These were young chaplains, new to the Army, holding the rank of first lieutenant. They included Methodist minister Reverend George L. Fox, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Reverend Clark V. Poling. e four chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Chaplain (MAJ) James F. Linzey, USA (Ret.), who was one of four military chaplains in his family, composed the United States Army Hymn, “Eternal Father, Hear Our Prayer,” in remembrance of the “Four Immortal Chaplains” on board the Dorchester. Si Je Peut T'Aimer details the emotion of love through various seasons from the fruits of Spring to the requiems of Winter, and the roller-coaster rides throughout. Near the end, desperation starts to show, but as acceptance starts to settle in, the music slows and ends with a cadence signifying that it's time to move on.It can be performed by anyone who'd like to use, I have no set audience in mind. It can be performed by schools if they so wish and can be used to show the various displays of emotion that music can display using different methods of composition. However, I would refrain from any sorts of religious service as this is best served as entertainment. In regards to the choir, stagger breathing is highly recommended for the difficult parts, or whenever feels necessary- which could be after ever dotted half note/ measure, or after every phrase. The dynamics are left to the director or the people who shall perform it. This leaves it to be personalised for each group, and unique to each one's own story; I just gave the template. To note: one can replace the choir with another 2 cellos and 2 violins, if desired. It is also important to note that when playing, the choir is the accompaniment to the piano and strings, and serves to reinforce the story that is being told, not explicitly telling the story itself.  .
