An energetic new setting of the classic sacred text, "Cantate Domino" was commissioned as a competition piece by maestro Rolandas Daugela for the Cantate Domino International Choral Festival and Competition of 2017.

The piece opens with a triumphant fanfare, accompanied by an energetic rhythmic figure in the tenors and basses. This first theme is contrasted by the second section - a warm, contemporary "benedicite" theme, followed by a lyrical, folk-inspired "quia mirabilia". The final section is an exciting reprise of the first theme, but this time the tenors and basses carry the fanfare in four-part harmony while the sopranos and altos provide the driving accompaniment. In the final bars of the piece, the choir ascends in a powerful crescendo to a magnificent final cadence.

Paul Osborne is a choral director, tenor soloist, and composer/arranger from California's Central Coast. He received his degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, where he studied choral conducting with Ren� Clausen. He is currently the Chorus Master for Opera San Luis Obispo and Central Coast Gilbert and Sullivan, the founder and director of Resonance Vocal Ensemble, the director of the Young Men?s Ensemble with the Central Coast Youth Chorus, and the worship leader at Paso Robles Church of the Nazarene. He performs frequently with the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, The Cuesta Concord Chorus, and in the annual "Bach in the Mission" concert series with the Cal Poly Early Music Ensemble.
