As angels announce the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, Teresa foreshadows Jesus’ crucifixion by referring to him as Cordero (Lamb). She also affirms Jesus as the fully human (hombre también junto) and fully divine son of the sovereign God (Hijo de Dios Soberano). The piece opens with angels approaching from a distance singing pastores (shepherds) followed by joyful choral couplets. Several dualities weave together representing the oneness of the human and divine: harp and piano; Venezuelan joropo rhythm derived from Spanish dance; sixteenth century text and twenty-first century music; and major and Phrygian modes. The short piano introduction is meant to represent the approach of the Kings from a long distance. Measures 1 through 13 should be played as softly as possible, gradually increasing in volume from there until the voices begin. The text is a conversation between the Three Kings and the Star. The choice was made not to employ the use of soloists as each individual King and Star, but instead to keep the piece completely ensemble oriented. As a result, the composition relies on the ensemble to portray multiple unique voices.  Sections are marked accordingly and every effort should be made by singers and conductor to vary each respectively. .

Parts add and build until the basses enter with a cantus firmus of sorts. The major second continues to figure prominently in the ensuing material. Kevin Longley #711630. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1109087). Inspiration While I have recited the Nicene Creed countless times, in July 2021 something changed. The church had cleared the return of the choir, post pandemic, and it was my first Sunday of singing in well over a year. That Sunday as I recited the creed something happened when I reached the line “And His Kingdom Will Have No Endâ€. Was it louder? Was it spoken with greater conviction? Something was different! Maybe it was just me. I'm not sure but all I know is that every Sunday thereafter it had the same impact on me. Within a few weeks I decided to compose a choral piece about that very line. I had to! The Music For the most part the harmony and structure are traditional but do contain harmonic structures with a contemporary flair. The arrangement is refrain, verse, refrain, verse, bridge and then refrain. The first and 3rd refrains are highly similar while the second refrain contains a soprano section descant while featuring the bass's carrying the main melody. The overall intent of the music is that on every return to the refrain, it is louder than the previous refrain. This signifies the singers confidence growing, in the existence of God's Kingdom, after each verse. With that said the piece starts quietly, almost being heard from a distance. The refrain lyrics speak to the hope that we carry for God's kingdom while the verses speak to God and Jesus in a more intimate way. The bridge speaks to the strength of the Kingdom and then leads back to the opening refrain, now in double forte. The high point in the piece is reached where volume, emotion and a significant ritard occur at the phrase “we'll be togetherâ€. The dynamic indications are not exaggerated: diminuendos at the ends of phrases should be taken to nothing. If singers run out of breath while holding one of these notes they should not rearticulate the pitch. All great myths take place in legendary places - Mount Olympus, Atlantis, Camelot, Asgard and Cimmeria - the home of the great fictional hero Conan the Barbarian. The text used in this piece comes from a short poem by Robert E. Howard which he wrote while living in Boerne, Texas inspired by the terrain of the hill country. Howard uses incredibly descriptive text to paint the picture of the land of Cimmeria such as sombre hills, gaunt land and woodlands brooding. The verse then switches to the perspective of the narrator who struggles to recall what name was used for him when he existed in this ancient land. In setting this text I aimed to use a dense, sombre harmonic texture to illustrate this hazy memory of a distance place. When the voice of narrator is heard the music switches into a rough, barbaric chant and then back to the dark texture. The use of bassoon and synthesizer layered under the chorus should lend an other-wordly sound to the piece.

This is that original version, but the song's lyrics have now been spelled out using the English alphabet, not Chinese characters. Short solo parts and some divisi are used in this SATB arrangement. The program note is as follows:The central image of this song is the steam train that used to travel the rout from Taipei to Ilan, Taiwan. Different meanings of this song's lyrics have been debated, but somebody once told me of possible references to dripping water within the tunnels along the train's rout. Taking these images as my starting point, I begin this arrangement with a perspective from inside one such tunnel. As the train approaches, the mood changes from still and quiet to energetic and active. The train then quickly passes and, as its whistle fades into the distance, the quiet sounds within the tunnel can once again be heard.
