Brisbane Ladies, sometimes known as Augathella Station, is an Australian folk song based on an English naval song titled Spanish Ladies. The song probably dates from the time of the War of the First Coalition (1793-96) when the Royal Navy carried supplies to Spain in support of that country’s resistance to revolutionary France. It then probably gained further popularity during the later Peninsular War when British soldiers were transported to Spain to assist rebels fighting against the French occupation by the forces of Napoleon. Spanish Ladies is a tale of British naval personnel sailing north from Spain and along the English Channel to their home port.Due to its popularity, several variants of Spanish Ladies later appeared in various parts of the world. American whalers sang a version called Yankee Whalermen. In Newfoundland it appeared as We’ll Rant and We’ll Roar. Special lyrics were written to the tune for the Bluenose, a famous Canadian sailing ship plying out of Nova Scotia. In Australia, around 1880, another set of lyrics appeared, written by Saul Mendelsohn who was a storekeeper in the small Queensland town of Nanango. Brisbane Ladies tells about the drovers who bring the herds of cattle overland from western Queensland to the markets in Brisbane. There the drovers spend most of their money and time with the ladies before setting out for home in search of the next herd of cattle for market. The places mentioned in Brisbane Ladies are mostly small towns along the stock route that stretched some 750 kilometres north-west of Brisbane towards the small town of Augathella, on the banks of the Warrego River. Augathella, at that time, marked the convergence of three major bullock tracks from Morven, Tambo and Charleville.

Based on one of only several poems written by my mother, Jewish Holocaust survivor Rita Hoffman of blessed memory (1927–2018), Only from Blood Does Freedom Grow echoes the words of Hatikvah (The Hope), the national anthem of Israel. I have to believe that she wrote this poem around 1948 because of how it is worded. I of course knew the source of inspiration for this poem when I reread it not long ago—something I had not done since the 1990s—but its having been inspired by Hatikvah was really driven home to me by a Facebook comment. That comment inspired me to compose a piece in which the opening and closing sections are based on the opening melody of Hatikvah, but in which the middle section is newly composed. “Israel was not created in order to disappear - Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy, and it honors the sword of freedom.” —John F. The Promise of Liberty, available for either SATB or unison/2-part treble choir with optional guitar or piano accompaniment, is an adaptation of the sonnet The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (1883). The sonnet was written to raise money for the construction of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal and has graced the entrance to the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor since 1945. The chorus for this work is adapted from the Lazarus poem, while the verses are new text written by the composer. Duration ca. 3 minutes. The Promise of Liberty Winds blow fierce and foul storms rage. Safe shelter seems a hopeless dream. But in the dark a promise beams, a beacon to a golden age. [Chorus] Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Give me the wretched from your teeming shore. This is a poignant and haunting sea shanty, traditionally sung as the sailors were pumping out the ship at the end of the voyage, before they went home. Sometimes it was used to air their gripes about the trip, quality of the food etc(!) so I have chosen some of the less sweary verses from the ones I found, and edited slightly in places!It's arranged in four parts for a cappella community choir. I've scored it out as the tenors and basses leading and all parts joining on the refrain, but you can have everyone singing the lead in unison if you want.

Amiruddin Tjitraprawira, a figure who hails from Bangkalan Madura, is not widely known in his current condition. He was born on May 18, 1920 and died on December 17, 1975. A number of songs created by R. Amiruddin Tjitraprawira, circulated a lot like the song; Pangèran Trunodjojo, Madhurâ O Madhurâ, Asta Aermata, Kerrabhân Sape, Djoko Tole, Tera' Bulân, È Pasèsèr, Kè' Lèsap, Kembhângnga Naghârâ, Tondu' Majâng, Aèng Tantja 'Torowan, Orèng Matrol and others. This song is a regional Madurese song because it really describes the lives of the coastal communities of Madura who work as fishermen. The song Tondu' Majâng tells the life of a Madurese fisherman. Their life is described as very hard because they have to deal with many dangers at sea (atemmo bhâbhâjâ). They also have to risk their lives (abhândhâ nyabâ) to support their families who are left at home. Sometimes to catch a lot of fish they have to stay for days on the boat so they become used to the sea and rely on the waves as a pillow and the wind as their blanket (abhântal ombâ' sapo' angèn salanjhânga). Many write this song from Madura with Tanduk Majeng, even though the word tanduk or tandu' means horn in Indonesian. Meanwhile, when paired with the context and lyrics of this song, it is true that there is tondu' which means arrived. So it is appropriate to use tondu' instead of horns because what is told in this song is the arrival of the fishermen when they are looking for fish. Otniel Simangunsong is a conductor and composer from Indonesia. He was born in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra on August 19, 1996. Currently he is a conductor of Benedicamus Chante Choir - Darma Cendika Catholic University Student Choir, Surabaya. He has also got some supports from another professional conductors and composers. Tondu' Majâng is arranged a capella with soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass voices. This arrangement shows the accompaniment of acoustic musical instruments such as guitar, bass and drums.

So I thought Why not write a ‘Pantomime for Summer’ and this is it!PANTOMANIA takes you on a journey into the mystical world of fairy tale and fantasy, where words on a page become real-life characters when our heroine, Victoria falls into a wishing well and on climbing out, finds herself in the ‘Children’s Section’ on a library bookshelf. We follow her as she moves from page to page trying to find a way back home, assisted by the ‘Scarecrow’ plus an odd assortment of picture book characters. A great fun-musical for all of the family with plenty laughs and a few screams along with foot-tapping songs. It can be performed by any mixed age group age from 12 - 60. Perfect for seat-filling by any school, college, youth theatre or dramatic society.Note: Of course it could also be performed in the Winter and would be a great way to end the Autumn Term!This album includes the Piano & Vocal Score along with the full Libretto.For full information please see my website:- https://www.tynemusic.com/pantomaniaP.S. In my years as Assistant Conductor and Pianist for the National Choir in El Salvador, I enjoyed working and performing works like this one. I wrote this piece with tho main ideas in mind: first, to create with easy harmonies that could appeal to anybody and second to be able to create a work that can be performed in concert halls. Conductors and Choristers will find interesting (and challenging) rhythmic patterns that give freshness to the work and invites listeners to enjoy the music. Text is from the Bible. The work could be performed at churches and concert halls. The work is scored for SSAATTBB, Piano, and String Orchestra. This vocal score includes a piano reduction for rehearsal purposes. Here's the program note text in Spanish:Esta obra es mi humilde homenaje a la creación. La obra está escrita para coro mixto, piano y pequeña orquesta de cuerdas. En su sección inicial la obra presenta un patrón rÃtmico no convencional (métrica de 5/8) que de vez en cuando se intercala con métricas más tradicionales. La sección media es introducida por las cuerdas que de forma misteriosa nos introduce a una atmósfera de mayor contemplación. para luego regresar a la parte rÃtmica y recapitular el tema melódico inicial. El compositor escribe: En mis años como Pianista y director asistente del Coro Nacional de El Salvador disfruté mucho montar obras como la que usted disfrutará esta noche. Lo cierto es que el compositor ha querido buscar una obra que sea accesible y que tenga a la vez un carácter único, como las grandes maravillas de nuestro planeta y la naturaleza. Appropriate for the Easter season or any time of the year to remind us that Jesus death was not the end. This beautiful choral arrangement will stir the heart and inspire many. Jesus is alive in His heavenly home and yes, He still loves us! For verse two, the rhythm varies with the words from verse 1. For example, taken should be on two 8th notes instead of one quarter note like in the first verse. I have included a recording I made at home using just my voice to give you an idea of what the song sounds like. Of course, with a full choir, it will sound so much better. I am a soprano and I was trying to sing tenor and bass, so please use your imagination!
