Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742755 By Debbie Allen. By Debbie Allen. A Cappella,Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Instructional. Octavo. 20 pages. Nottingham Scores #350889. Published by Nottingham Scores (A0.742755). T.I.M.E., a work for SATB Choir, expresses the mystery of time, how it passes, how we use it and how it grants new beginnings. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have experienced time and what is important to us in different ways. Certainly, there have been moments of uncertainty, anxiety, even panic over danger of contracting the virus, the long-term effects of the virus and the loss of life. In isolation, awaiting further instructions, we have had time to reflect, prepare and imagine. We have had to manage life with new guidelines and restrictions, while trying to keep ourselves and others safe. This work attempts to put time in perspective, with a message of hope for recovery, and a better understanding of how to move forward with passion and grace. The message is not just for life in a pandemic, but for life, in general. Hopefully, this work can stand the “test of timeâ€, finding a meaningful place in the repertoire.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1262362 Composed by Sally Whitwell. 21st Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 17 pages. Sally Whitwell #855402. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.1262362). On the morning of 2 March 2020, I finished writing the first draft of this song. It was the same morning that the New South Wales Rural Fire Service announced that for the first time since July 2019, the state was free of active bush and grass fires. At the time it felt quite euphoric. We’d been through a lot. Little did we know what was coming just a few days from then, when the Covid19 global pandemic reached our shores. It’s a virus that would kill millions across the world, and disable millions more, long term. It forced us, globally, into a kind of reckoning the like of which we had never experienced before. Non pharmaceutical controls like lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing and ventilation standards were employed to keep us safe from this airborne virus, whilst scientists worked round clock to develop vaccines and treatments.Technically, the declaration of a pandemic is still active, but governments and people have somehow decided for themselves that it is all over. No one takes any precautions any more. Governments have stopped reporting statistics. People who know they are infected are going about their business with no thought for others. Meanwhile, many of the immune-compromised, the disabled, the vulnerable, are unable to safely leave their homes and engage in activities out in the world. I know this, because I am a carer for a vulnerable person. What this whole exercise has taught me is that people in the world are actually much less kind than I thought they were. Humans do not really care for each other. People attack me for wearing a mask, tell me that I’m virtue signalling and that I look ridiculous (as if I care how I look). I’ve asked questions about workplace Covid safety and been informed that it’s “a bit rich†that I’m asking at all, when everything is now safe. A friend’s diagnosed Long Covid symptoms were cruelly minimised or completely dismissed “Oh, it’s not Covid. How old are you? In your forties? It’s your hormones, it’s the menopause.†The fatal combination of sheer selfishness, rampant misinformation and DISinformation continues, whilst people waltz around spreading a deadly virus with no thought for the grief that will undoubtedly ensue. It boils down to this: if we want to continue as a species and to have a planet on which to reside, we have to stop with the Self Care and start with the Community Care. A choir is the perfect instrument for expressing these notions, through the unique power of the massed first person plural. My wish for this piece is that it spurs performer and listener alike into some kind of action. Please consider the effect your actions have on others, and on the planet, and make any changes necessary, however inconvenient or difficult they are. Otherwise, there’s really no point.Sally Whitwell 11 July 2023.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1240133 Composed by Debbie Allen. Children,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Folk,Historic. Octavo. 14 pages. Nottingham Scores #835514. Published by Nottingham Scores (A0.1240133). Mystery of the Hills is an S.A.T.B. choral work describing the wonder of the Flint Hills, a region in East Central Kansas.  I’m not a native Kansan, but whenever I drive through this area, I am enthralled by the infinite sense of expanse and gently rolling terrain. Geologists believe there was an inland seaway that covered central North America starting 290 million years ago. Over time, alternating layers of hard limestone and softer shale rocks formed. It is believed erosion caused the varied elevations of terrain, unique to the slopes of the Flint Hills. These surface layers of limestone and chert prevented the settler’s ability to farm, which in turn preserved the integrity of the soil. Today, the prairie grasses can reach 10 feet tall if not managed.  The rich grasses are prime for feeding livestock. This music attempts to provide images of traveling through the Flint Hills today, while imagining changes over eons of time, due to weather and eventually, human interaction.  Generally, the upper voices provide the imagery and some history, while the lower voices describe a bedrock foundation.  Describing the rock foundation found in the Flint Hills is also a metaphor for human strife and struggle as man, among living flora and fauna, interact with the area. The vocal ranges and harmonies are accessible for young ensembles, whether in development or with years of experience.

THE ICON OF THE INVISIBLE GOD (SATB) – Colossians 1:15-20
Chorale SATB
Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926661 Composed by Michael…
(+)
Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926661 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 15 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588399. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926661). In the first chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, we discover the next known Hymn to Christ right after his introductory passages, beginning at the 15th verse. Paul opens this letter with a blessing, then immediately flows to one of the 1st century hymns, which I have called, The Icon of the Invisible God. The lyrics of this hymn are declarative, bold and illuminating as to whom the Christ figure is-the icon, the very image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. The text makes it abundantly clear that Jesus is the authority; that He was there before all things, that He created all things, and that through Him all things hold together. This anthem is composed for SATB choir with Pipe Organ accompaniment. The meter is set to 6/8 time, with a rhythm tempo of Totally Alive; which is one actual definition of the word Holy. The anthem starts at a good clip (♪=100). The key is G Major, with an incidental and occasional flatted 5th (Dâ™) as a surprise-landing befitting to the text presented, as if to say, This is so amazing, how can it be? The flatted 5th gives the piece it's own identity and causes the listener to stand up and take notice whenever it occurs. When the hymn's lyrics glide into the all-important resolution, having made peace through the blood of the cross, the song retards and lands on a surprising musical cadence, the sixth chord (E Major). In this piece, the pipe organ is boldly featured as it supports and under girds the musical line, occasionally trumpeting its own victorious motifs and adding some contrapuntal elements, such as this duplet motif, in the pedal line. The final lyrics about Christ having reconciled everything to Himself, whether things on the earth or in the heavens, finish the piece with a great, ‘High-Church’ choral ending.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.891208 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Gunnar Madsen, Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106157. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891208). If you are looking to lighten your concert, to program real music, or a piece with rapid text delivery satisfying to mid-level HS choirs and community choirs with adult choral beginners, bring this hilarious 3 minute piece to your outstanding accompanist-pianist and your developing ensemble. Debuted for choir during an educational outreach concert for children with families, Mozart's At the Window is also an effective selection or encore for a Mozart concert, or standing on its own. Piece features lots of vocal doubling and is fully supported by a pianistic reduction-- this piece shines with an amazing accompanist. The choral arranger writes: After getting absolutely sick of the inane music I'd been playing for my young children in the car, I was elated to discover Gunnar Madsen's CD I'm Growing featuring Mozart's At the Window. The kids were delighted with this funny song about some naughty kid, and my husband and I were delighted with the enormous improvement of musical quality in our vehicle. It was shortly thereafter that this choral arrangement was born.Gunnar writes: In my first music theory class in college, the teacher and the students were recalling the silly ways they'd been taught to remember classical melodies when they were young. One of them was for Mozart's 40th symphony (which I'd never heard) which consisted of Now Mozart's at the window - Let him in, Let him in, Let him in. What an ear-worm! For 25 years now I've dreamt of expanding that ditty into something more substantial, and now I'm proud to present the finished piece. I'm really going to get a kick of sending this one to my teacher! Also available in Two-Part Treble voicing.Music abridged from W. A. Mozart's Symphony No.40 in G minor, K.550 IV. Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308788 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. 11 pages. Tobi Crawford #898034. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308788). *Purchase 10 copies to perform this piece with your ensemble of any size*Purchase the instrumental pack (bass and drum part) here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/beyond-the-sea-instrumental-pack-only-22605052.htmlThis arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Lesbia mi dicit semper male

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.864441 Composed by Mark D. Templeton. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 12 pages. Mark Templeton Choral Music #2343381. Published by Mark Templeton Choral Music (A0.864441). Lesbia mi dicit semper male, commonly known as Catullus 92, consists of two elegiac couplets written by Gaius Valerius Catullus (84-54 B.C.E) for his lover, Lesbia. Lesbia was the name believed to have been given by Catullus to his mistress. Her real name was Clodia, the sexually promiscuous wife of proconsul Quintus Caecilius Metellus Celer, known as Metellus. Catullus’ earlier poem, 83, brings some context to 92. In the first part of 83, Catullus says: Lesbia keeps insulting me in front of her husband:this fills the fatuous idiot with delight. Mule, do you perceive nothing? If she shut up and ignored me that’d show healthy indifference;… In 92, Catullus expounds on the idea of why Clodia insults him in front of Metellus. Catullus reckons that he is always cursing her, and he loves her. She always curses him, so she must love him as well. In his desperation, Catullus uses his wit and humor to reason that his obsessive love for Coldia is reciprocated. This setting of 92 uses incessant driving rhythms in the women’s voices to paint the words, Lesbia mi dicit semper male nec tacet umquam de me (Lesbia always speaks ill of me, never shuts up about me). The repeating rhythms return in the men’s voices when Catullus says he does the same, quia sunt totidem mea: deprecor illam assidue (…it’s the same with me: I’m continually complaining.) The piece comes to a final rest after Catullus realizes the he will always be cursed to love her.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926664 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 8 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588427. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926664). The Apostle John’s visions in Revelation are nothing less than astounding to all readers. However, little is it known that another Hymn to Christ is neatly tucked into the very first seven verses of this last book of the Bible. John begins his Revelation (verses 1-3) with a prelude, introducing Jesus Christ and the apocalypse (revelation) that was made to him via the angel sent to describe all the things about which he was to write. He says, Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and keep what is written in it, for the time is near. After this short prelude, John delivers an epistolary opening (a greeting identifying the author and recipients), then pronounces a blessing upon the recipients-verses 4-6. After both the prelude and the opening, John immediately proceeds to another known Hymn to Christ, in verse 7, which I have called, Behold He Is Coming. When presented with the text in Revelation 1:7, I immediately thought, Where is the Gospel, the good news, in this piece? After several minutes of meditating on the text, I realized the Gospel message was right there in front of me-in the very last line: Yes, so be it [Lord], so be it, [Amen!] There will be peace! All will be known. Every single person will understand, at that point. The end, is the ushering in of a new beginning. The piece is scored in G minor for SATB with flute and Bâ™ clarinet accompaniment. In the opening phrase, we hear the clarinet on a sustained high (concert) G, which crescendos into a quick, descending sixteenth note pattern. There is urgency! The flute joins the clarinet in a duet to complete the introduction to the anthem. Then, the choir begins their haunting chant, Behold, He is coming with the clouds. Every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him. Every eye will see Him and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him . Alas, there is peace! The two instruments dissolve into an a cappella four-part chorale where the choir creates the agreement between the text and the music, modulating to the relative major (Bâ™)-all is reconciled in a final Amen!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1074352 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 32 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #678653. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1074352). PROGRAM NOTES As of the present writing, this choral tone poem had been gestating for over thirty years, and the concept and harmonies for it for over forty years. In the 1980s I began to work with the latter two in my brief orchestral piece Little Sea Nocturne. When reading the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849), I am most struck by how musical they are. When recited aloud they exhibit their own rhythmic sense. I was eager to incorporate those rhythms into my music. I had long been familiar with his poem The City In the Sea and began to sketch choral passages for the present choral tone poem in the 1990s. It took me until 2022 to complete it because I required many more years of experience at my craft to do so to lead into out of the choruses. In 2012 I completed a seven-minute unaccompanied version of the choruses with music unique to and unifying it simply called The City In the Sea. In composing The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem, my goal was to write a piece that, while steeped in tradition, sounds unlike anything in the literature that had come before it. The result is an original hybrid work that successfully and memorably combines salient aspects of the tonal, atonal, and modal musical languages into an organic whole. George Perle coined the term “twelve-tone tonality†to describe the music of Alban Berg and composers influenced by him such as Luigi Dallapiccola. The last title of which I am aware that accomplishes anything remotely related to what I am trying to accomplish musically in this choral tone poem is the piece Paradiso Choruses by Donald Martino (1974). However, I take twelve-tone tonality in entirely other directions in my work. That the duration of The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem came out to be thirteen minutes seems appropriate for piece about a sunken city. Rather than write program notes that narrate how the music unfolds I will simply shout out the most memorable aspects of what careful listeners will discern: a recurring heartbeat motif; shifting polychordal harmonies; echo technique; rhythmic diminutions and augmentations; an a cappella chorus featuring those harmonies with a surprisingly memorable recuring theme on top; sensuous flute duets; string section underpinnings by way of either sustained passages or wave-like gestures; tritone-related melodies, harmonies, and tone centers; several strategically placed grand pauses; tritone-related modal-sounding passages; melodic and chord clusters, especially the two climactic ones. INSTRUMENTATION 2 Flutes (2. doubles on Piccolo) 2 Oboes (2. doubles on English Horn) 2 Bb Clarinets 2 Bassoons 2 F Horns 2 C Trumpets 2 Trombones Tuba Timpani Percussion (Gong, Bass Drum, Chimes, Glockenspiel) Harp Strings DURATION 13:00 Stanley M. Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109087 By Kevin Longley. By Kevin Longley. Arranged by Kevin Longley. A Cappella,Christian,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred. 10 pages. Kevin Longley #711630. Published by Kevin Longley (A0.1109087). Inspiration While I have recited the Nicene Creed countless times, in July 2021 something changed. The church had cleared the return of the choir, post pandemic, and it was my first Sunday of singing in well over a year. That Sunday as I recited the creed something happened when I reached the line “And His Kingdom Will Have No Endâ€. Was it louder? Was it spoken with greater conviction? Something was different! Maybe it was just me. I'm not sure but all I know is that every Sunday thereafter it had the same impact on me. Within a few weeks I decided to compose a choral piece about that very line. I had to! The Music For the most part the harmony and structure are traditional but do contain harmonic structures with a contemporary flair. The arrangement is refrain, verse, refrain, verse, bridge and then refrain. The first and 3rd refrains are highly similar while the second refrain contains a soprano section descant while featuring the bass's carrying the main melody. The overall intent of the music is that on every return to the refrain, it is louder than the previous refrain. This signifies the singers confidence growing, in the existence of God's Kingdom, after each verse. With that said the piece starts quietly, almost being heard from a distance. The refrain lyrics speak to the hope that we carry for God's kingdom while the verses speak to God and Jesus in a more intimate way. The bridge speaks to the strength of the Kingdom and then leads back to the opening refrain, now in double forte. The high point in the piece is reached where volume, emotion and a significant ritard occur at the phrase “we'll be togetherâ€. From there the piece decreases in volume ending in a quiet confidence repeating “No end, no end, no endâ€.

A Cappella,Contemporary,Pop. Octavo. 9 pages. Jason Howard #858044. Published by Jason Howard (A0.1265200). This arrangement of Toxic is a fresh take on the popular 2000's hit! Taking inspiration from the original and several other different covers of this song, I've written out what is probably one of my favorite arrangements I've written. It's sure to challenge your performers and keep your audience engaged from start to finish! It starts with a soft drone in the Basses that continuously adds chord tones and volume to build sonic intensity and set the tone right out of the gate! We then move on to a slowed down first verse with the melody supported only by chords in the choir. Vocal Percussion leads us into a tempo change and explosive snippet of the melody before the piece hits its stride. Lots of upbeats, syncopations, and altered melodic tones throughout adds a high level of difficulty to this piece. As we get to the end of this piece, the ensemble will suddenly alter time to a half time feel that not only adds to excitement but also helps to bring the piece to a dramatic closing. This is written for Solo voice and SSAATTBB choir and a Vocal Percussionist. As with most of my arrangements I leave many of the syllables blank to encourage the director/performers to put their own spin on the arrangement with their own choice of syllables! Suggested syllables in certain spots and all necessary melodic lyrics have all been included for you!I hope that you and your group enjoys my arrangement! If you do (or even if you don't), please leave a comment and let me know! As a current full time band director who would love to be able to do this full time one day, any and all critiques are appreciated, and I'm particularly interested in formatting suggestions! If you would rather email me than leave a comment, shoot me an email at jhowardarranging@gmail.com!A little about me:My name is Jason Howard, and at the time of this publication, I'm going into my 5th year as a band director at the middle and high school levels. I have quite a bit of experience with arranging of various types of vocal and instrumental ensembles and combos. Most are for personal use, but as I get time, I hope to publish more and more for public consumption! Primarily, I focus on popular music, and I one day hope to bring important and influential classical musics to audiences and younger students everywhere!

Published by Connie Tyler (A0.1008086). This choral work for SATB, harp (or piano) and drum sings of five different winter holidays: the Winter Solstice, Hannukah, Christmas, Isra and Mi'raj, (a Muslim holiday that is held according to the Islamic calendar and therefore falls in the winter only on some years) and Kwansaa. I'm sure there are many more holidays and verses could be added for them. It is meant to celebrate both our common ground and our diversity. The recording is generated by computer and the voices are choral oohs, without words. The words are:A candle's glow is hard to see in the light. , , It is made for the dark, warm womb of a winter night. Chorus: Dark winter, nurturing womb of the year, hold at your center the spark of the future here. Solstice night the yule log burning bright. Seeds deep in the earth turn, turn to the light. Chorus Small cruse of oil gave eight long days of light, restoring the temple faithful their former rites. Chorus Tiny Babe born from His mother's dark womb, Under a star shining over the stable room. Chorus Gabriel carried the Prophet through the dark night, to Mecca, Jerusalem, on ‘til Heav'n's gates were in sight. Three LatinElegies to Lesbiais a setting of three poems written by the ancient Roman poet, Gaius ValeriusCatullus (84-54 B.C.E.). His muse in these poems is understood to beLesbia, the name believed to have been given by Catullus to his mistress.Lesbia was really Clodia, the sexually promiscuous wife of proconsul QuintusCaecilius Metellus Celer. Clodia was said to have many lovers, and Catullus’torment and obsession for her is well documented in 13 of his poems where thename, Lesbia, is used. His first poem addressed to Lesbia (Catullus 51) is a freetranslation of a poem by the ancient Greek poet, Sappho. Scholars havesuggested that Catullus chose the name, Lesbia, because of his affinity forSappho, who it is believed was a lesbian.<br> <br> Odie et Amo (Catullus 85), one of the mostcelebrated elegiac couplets composed by Catullus, has inspired many composers withits duality of emotions. The most well-known setting is from Carl Orff’s Catulli Carmina, part of Trionfi, themusical triptych that also includes the Carmina Burana andTrionfo di Afrodite. Unlike Orff’s driving rhythms of outwardlyexpressive anguish, my setting is a more introspective interpretation. It is asif the music is surrendering to the mercurial personalities that Catullus andall humans possess, the tortured ability to hate and love at the same time.<br> <br> Lesbia mi dicit semper male (Catullus 92) consists of two elegiaccouplets. Catullus’ earlier poem, 83,brings some context to 92. In thefirst part of 83, Catullus says:<br> <br> Lesbia keeps insulting me in front of her husband:<br> <br> thisfills the fatuous idiot with delight.<br> <br> Mule, doyou perceive nothing? If she shut up and ignored me<br> <br> that’dshow healthy indifference;…<br> <br> In 92, Catullus expounds on the idea of whyLesbia insults him in front of her husband. Catullus reckons that he is alwayscursing her, and he loves her. She always curses him, so she must love him aswell. In his desperation, Catullus uses his wit and humor to reason that hisobsessive love for Lesbia is reciprocated. This setting of 92 uses incessant driving rhythms in the women’s voices to paint thewords, “Lesbia mi dicit semper male nec tacetumquam de me” (Lesbia always speaks ill of me, never shuts up about me). The repeating rhythmsreturn in the men’s voices when Catullus says he does the same, “quia sunt totidem mea: deprecor illamassidue” (…it’s the same with me: I’m continually complaining.) The piececomes to a final rest after Catullus realizes the he will always be cursed tolove her.<br> <br> Mea Lesbia (Catullus 87) also consists of twoelegiac couplets. Catullus was only one of Lesbia’s many lovers, and he oftenwrote of his jealousy and disdain for her unfaithful actions. This elegy waswritten at a time when Lesbia had been particularly cruel toward Catullus.Despite being broken hearted, his obsession with her never waned. In hisdespair and desperation, he basically says, “My love for you is so great thatno other woman could possibly even know what love is.” This setting of 87 returns to a more introspectivenature where Catullus surrenders his love forever to Lesbia.

Program Notes: The fact that the text for this work even exists is a miracle. It was written by Abraham (Abramek) Koplowicz, a Jewish boy who was exterminated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Abramek was born in 1930 in Lodz, Poland, and died 1944 in that country's infamous concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He wrote this poem during the time that his family was trapped in the Lodz ghetto. This poem was not found until 1983 when Eliezer (Lolek) Grynfeld, the poet's half-brother, discovered it among their late father's belongings. Choristers who sing this work will be transported on a magical flight around the world through time and space along with their audiences. —A Dream (Marzenie)When I am twenty years of age,I will burst forth from this cageAnd begin to see our splendid EarthFor the first time since my birth! In my motorized bird I’ll soar so highAbove the world, up in the sky,Over rivers and the seas, With such stupefying ease,With my brother wind and sister cloud, I’llMarvel at the Euphrates and the Nile; The goddess Isis ruled the land that linksThe Pyramids and the massive Sphynx.I will glide above Niagara Falls,And sunbathe where the Sahara calls; If I want to escape the scorching heat,I will fly up north to an Arctic retreat.I will top the cloudy peaks of Tibetan fameAnd survey the fabled land whence the Magi came. From the Island of KangaroosI’ll take my time and cruiseTo the ruins of Pompeii      At the edge of Naples Bay,I’ll continue to the Holy Land, then seekThe home of Homer, the celebrated Greek.More and more astonished will I growAt the beauty of the Earth below. In all my travelling I’ll be twinnedWith my siblings, cloud and wind.—Abraham (“Abramekâ€) Koplowicz (b. 1930, Lodz, Poland, d. 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau)Translation by Sarah Lawson and MaÅ‚gorzata Koraszewska© Copyright 1993 by Eliezer Grynfeld. An original setting of the lyrics to the well-known carol 'What Child is This?’ For SABT choir and piano accompaniment. Suitable for any Christmas service or concert. Composers Note This piece was originally composed during my recovery from CFS/ME. I was drawn to these particular words because, like me, William Dix suffered a serious illness which strengthened his faith and inspired him to write not just these lyrics, but many other well-known and beloved hymns and carols. The piece was premiered during the annual 'Carols by Candlelight' service at our local church of St Andrews, Kirk Ella in December 2017. The choir worked extremely hard to prepare for the performance and the piece was very well received by both choir and audience. I am sure that your choir and audience will enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed working on it. Duration approximately 4 minutes. Words: William Chatterton Dix - Public DomainMusic: Original composition by Dominic M Wright - Copyright 2017 Dominic M Wright is an award winning composer based in East Yorkshire, England. He is an experienced singer having sung with the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir and the Hull Choral Union in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Sage Gates-head, Durham Cathedral, Manchester Cathedral, Hull Minster and many more. His compositions have been performed across the region, always to audience acclaim.

The big challenge is to introduce enough variety of texture and harmony to sustain six verses, without obscuring the essential simplicity. The piano part is for rehearsal only.

Downloadable, Study score. Duration 55 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3162. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3162). German. The theme of Henze’s Ninth Symphony is his German homeland as he remembers it during the days of his youth and during the war years. He has written this work in homage to all the people who fought back against the oppression of the Third Reich and sacrificed their lives for freedom of thought. Hans-Ulrich Treichel adapted the text from a poem by Anna Seghers. Henze has called the symphony ‘an apotheosis of the terrible and the painful’. The pinnacle of his prolific and varied œuvre, it is worlds apart from ‘Freude schöner Götterfunken’.My Ninth Symphony deals with my German homeland – as it appeared to me when I was a young man, during the war, and even earlier. Instead of hymning joy, the beautiful divine spark, the men and women of my Ninth Symphony spend the evening conjuring up a world of horror and persecution that is still with us today and that continues to cast its shadows over us. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1350508). I have long had a fondness for the songs of Charles Ives whose music is in the Public Domain for the world as of 2024. Creating choral versions of some of them is inspired by the solo recordings made by Jan DeGaetani accompanied by Gilbert Kalish, and by the choral recordings made by The Gregg Smith Singers. That Ives composed over one hundred songs is no small feat. Though they vary in quality as does his entire oeuvre, some of them remain almost mystical to me in their quality and effect. Like a Sick Eagle and The Indians (renamed here to The Native Americans to match the current times) are two such songs. When arranging Like a Sick Eagle, I visited the website for the Charles Ives Society where I discovered that he grouped this song with The Indians under the master title Set No. 10 of Three Pieces with the song Luck and Work placed between them for contrast. I knew I could arrange the first and third songs for mixed chorus, but I also knew right away that the second song would be all but impossible to arrange for I was already familiar with it. So I included it in its original version and labeled it for Solo Voice or Unison Chorus and Piano. In creating these arrangements I hope to rekindle interest in Ives’ music and its possibilities. I also hope that you find these songs as moving as I do.—Stanley M. Hoffman—Set No. 10 of Three Pieces (Charles Ives [1874-1954]) - 1) Like a Sick Eagle, 2) Luck and Work, 3) The Native Americans (The Indians) arranged for SATB chorus (divisi) and piano - English - composed 1920-1921, arranged in 2021. NotePerformer 4 audio and scrolling score video in search of live performances.Arrangement: © Copyright 2021 by Stanley M. Choral Choir (SATB) - Digital Download SKU: A0.1024968 Composed by Simon M. Sperl. 20th Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 4 pages. Sperl Publishing #3684071. Published by Sperl Publishing (A0.1024968). This piece is meant to help men overcome toxic masculinity. Toxic masculinity is the practice that legitimizes men's dominant position in society and justifies the subordination of women. This type of masculinity imprisons men with fear of not being manly enough. This is exemplified by use of terms such as be a man and man up or the use of feminine names as insults. Because of this fear, many men are unable to talk about their feelings, be vulnerable with their loved ones, or cry. While this is tragic, toxic masculinity also normalizes physical (often sexual) and mental abuse of women. This is the real concern. The only way to end this violence towards women is to dismantle toxic masculinity. In a grossly oversimplified version of this idea, if society allows men to cry - by dismantling toxic masculinity - then society will also cease to accept violence towards women. As a man, I feel it is my duty to be a part of the solution to the problems that my gender creates and perpetuates. This piece of music is meant to be one of my contributions.
