This beautiful evening hymn is a perfect pairing of a solemn, contemplative melody with uplifting, scriptural lyrics that remind us of the hope we have in Christ, in this life and the next. I found this song in a very old hymnbook, so old that you could feel the raised print on the page, and loved the lyrics so much and felt that a minor melody would suit it extraordinarily well. This piece works well as a choir anthem for funerals or for any evensong themed service, and is written in a comfortable, singable range for everyday singers. It works well either with a soft organ accompaniment or a capella, to showcase the rich vocal harmony reminiscent of Elaine Hagenburg or John Rutter.For other formats including large print or special congregtional versions contact me at staceyplayshymns@gmail.com and I'll be glad to make them especially for you. English.This text from an old Southern folk hymn is given new original music in this anthem setting for SATB, cello, and piano. The piano part can easily be adapted to organ. The voice parts are accessible. The tenors and basses do sing a verse alone, but in unison to two parts. The sum total makes a sort of contemplative tapestry in which the cello moves in and out of the foreground and so do the voices. Set mostly in C minor, there is a middle section where the chorus sings wordlessly against the cello line and the emphasis shifts to E-flat major. Despite the despair in the text, there is also comfort and reassurance here.

Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.VMW227). 9 x 12 inches.“Paris Without You is a piece for solo tenor saxophonist and orchestra with jazz quartet accompaniment. By way of introduction of the piece, in 2012, I met my wife, and very early on we had different trips planned. I was going to visit family and Cindy was going back to Paris, a place she had visited many times. So it was that we were almost literally a world apart. Upon both our returns, Cindy shared her many photos of Paris with me, a place I have never been. These photos were but a few that really made an impression on me and made me feel almost as I were there, even though Cindy was there (in one of the most romantic places in the world) as musicians would say, “solo. So the title of this piece suggests a telling of the story in pictures from her perspective.In performing this piece, it is preferable to have a tenor saxophonist who is equally comfortable in an orchestral setting as in a jazz quintet setting. Though all the jazz quintet parts are very specifically written, with either chord voicings and suggested solos, there is room for improvisation in these parts, but using a keen ear and direction to know when to align properly with the orchestra.In my recording of this piece, Maynard Ferguson Band alumni, Andy Weinzler is the featured tenor saxophonist. Many Western New York musicians came together to record this piece, and I thank them all for their incredible musicianship and willingness to perform this piece.

The Battle of Kresvia is an a capella choral piece that tells the story of several knights going to fight in a mythical battle. There are several phases throughout this song. It starts out with a recurring melody of the soldiers marching, then the knights pause to dream about what they will encounter. However, all of their dreams turn to nightmares when they realize the mortal terror they will encounter. The warriors drearily march until their commander riles the troops and raises their morale. The musical setting presents the opening lyrics in the children’s voices: The day is done, and the darkness falls from the wings of night. These phrases, or slight variations thereof, return as refrains throughout the song. The verses alternate between the men’s and women’s voices, with the children interjecting refrains or offering commentary in the background. Finally, the children interrupt the SATB dialogue with exclamations of a song! a song! a song! These lead to the climax of the song, given to the children’s chorus, singing And the night shall be filled with music. All voices then join together in celebration: Our song shall fill the night. The accompaniment (originally composed for piano, later adapted for flute, strings, and percussion) delights in text-setting with sparkling arpeggios depicting the celestial harmonies, and filigree patterns for the star-filled night sky. Written during the coronavirus pandemic, the poem expresses how quarantine can serve as a conduit for healing, how words of comfort flow despite barriers, and how the paralysis of sheltering in place generates creative movement. The music and poem draw inspiration from ancient forest wisdom, shown musically with a pentatonic scale. The tight harmonies of Locrian mode bind moss to stone and stream to its own flow. Then vocal expression bursts forth with lush harmonies as singers serenade from balconies, sharing compassion through music. Returning to the pentatonic scale, we overcome obstacles and send generosity beyond our ancient and modern world into the celestial realm. On the Lake written for advanced SSAA divisi and harp. Fannie Isabelle Sherrick was an American poet who wrote songs and poems throughout the 1860's that captured hearts and minds. I Can Not Say the Sad Good-Bye was one of her notable songs published in 1873. She was both influenced and encouraged by Ella Wheeler Wilcox who she attributed her success to. Her most popular poetry volume entitled Love or Fame and Other Poems was published in 1880 by W.S Bryan of St Louis and she continued writing for many years.
