That is one of the reasons I chose to set this text, it is a part of the story that is often left out. The other reason is that this it contains one of the first New Testament prophecies concerning Christ, the revelation that Jesus will save his people from their sins. The Herald Angels Sing written by Charles Wesley.[10] Wesley envisioned the song being sung to the same tune as his Easter song Christ the Lord Is Risen Today,[11] and in some hymnals that tune is included for Hark! The Herald Angels Sing along with the more popular Mendelssohn-Cummings tune.[12]Hark! The Herald Angels Sing was regarded as one of the Great Four Anglican Hymns and published as number 403 in The Church Hymn Book (New York and Chicago, 1872).[13]In Britain, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing has popularly been performed in an arrangement that maintains the basic original William H. Published by David Warin Solomons2 (A0.958401). The Three Gates was composed during the first two weeks of March in 2007, shortly after Ford began reading Dante's The Divine Comedy. It is dedicated to the British composer and singer David Warin Solomons, a fellow member of the Delian Society. Ford's musical style in these three movements, the last two of which include the organ, was strongly influenced by his familiarity with the music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, particularly the polyphony of Josquin and the operas and madrigals of Monteverdi, although elements drawn from composers as diverse as Gesualdo, Beethoven, and Liszt also come into play.

Scored for male chorus (alto, tenor, baritone and bass), Surrender was created as a gift for Stevens and premiered as part of the 2007 Delian Suite No. 3 (May 2007). Ford's setting is based on quintal harmonies in which chords are constructed in perfect fifths (instead of the usual thirds), a technique which imbues the music with an austere, timeless quality. The movement consists in a series of choral statements in homorhythmic chordal style of the word surrender in its original and successively truncated forms, with each statement followed by an elucidating observation made by the altos. In this manner, the significance of the poem, which evokes the dissolution of the ego center, is clearly communicated. The lone letter s, which is ultimately all that remains of the word surrender, is here prolonged to imply the sound of a distant wave or gentle gust of wind-the action of emptiness. The final line of the poem is not sung but calmly spoken.
