Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.701457). An original hymn with text by Kathryn Hales below.YouTube video: https://youtu.be/w68JlvntMjcI did not see the vision, Nor dream a prophet’s dream, I only saw the barren desert Stretch forth upon the scene. I was not there when Brigham’s cane Touched the virgin ground Naming the spot the Lord had shown Where a temple would be found. I did not hear the Lord’s own voice As over ocean waves I tossed, Nor spared the death of loved ones dear As the vast plains I crossed. I only felt the Holy Spirit Telling me the work was true, So I obeyed the prophetic words Until my trek was through. I helped dig the rocky soil Before the foundation was laid Then with shovel filled the gaping hole Before Johnston’s army stayed. I did not see the temple’s spires I only saw the walls, I only shaped the granite stones With hammer, chisel, maul. I coaxed oxen through the mud To move stones down a mountain side, I watched our leaders grow old in years, No temple finished before they died. Now soon I too will join them Though I’ve labored oh so long, I’ll not see the rising spires Or sing praises in Hosanna song. I’m just a common earthly man, A laborer in a cause so great, To generations yet unborn, I’m not one you’ll appreciate. Through the years I’ve toiled and sweat, Shared blood and grief and tears, Obeyed the prophet’s call to serve Listened in faith, not fear. Please do not take for granted As you walk through these carved doors, Or hear the echo of carpenters From stairs or roof or floors The love and work that went into Many years of toil and prayer, Feel our spirits in the halls As you enter there. Though the structure’s end I’ll not see, To others who this path may trod, Go forth with diligence and faith Till we finish the work of God.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.926665 Composed by Michael A. Morizio. A Cappella,Christian,Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. M.A. Morizio #3588435. Published by M.A. Morizio (A0.926665). In the first chapter of Paul’s second letter to Timothy, verses 1-10, we observe the intimate relationship that exists, between a spiritual father and his son… I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. In Chapter two we also witness Paul’s commissioning Timothy to entrust to faithful men all that he was taught by the Apostle, that they then may be able to teach others in the same way also. While the elder Paul is now in prison and bound in chains, he is nonetheless empowered by the Holy Spirit to encourage and exhort Timothy to share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ, for the sake of the Gospel. Though Paul is bound in chains, he declares to Timothy the word of God is not bound! Endurance for Paul serves only one purpose, the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. In verse 11, Paul supports his statements by inserting another known 1st century Hymn to Christ, which brings us to our fifth anthem, For If We Died with Him. The text-or lyrics-of this hymn are even bracketed (or indented) in the NKJV Bible, suggesting the hymnic setting. The proposition of the text is quite clear; if we died with Christ, then we shall also live eternally with Christ. If we endure in the faith, then we shall also reign eternally with Christ. However, there is an insertion of 'Law' here, with a dire warning that the opposite is also true: If we deny Christ, resist, and refuse His beckoning and free invitation to salvation, then He will also deny us. Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ (Matthew 7:31-23). Thus, the stage has been set for the fifth anthem. The piece is composed for SATB a cappella. The key is F Major. The opening phrase, This is a trustworthy saying, is in ¾ time, where a series of triplets are sung three times each (the Trinitarian opening motif). The meter then shifts to 2/4 with a lovely, distinctive unison melody for the opening phrase, For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. Soon after, when the lyrics shift to the words, If we deny Him, He will also deny us, the song drops into the relative minor key (F minor). The melody in this passage is haunting, and sends a clear warning signal to the listener to pay heed to what is being sung. When the text then transitions from if we are faithless, He remains faithful, however, the key shifts back to F Major in a new (dance-like) rhythm for the final verse, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. A coda is inserted in the final phrase where the triplet pattern is recapitulated (This is a trustworthy saying) and the sopranos ascend to a high F singing the lyrics, we shall live, for He remains faithful! to triumphantly end the piece.

Published by Cat McGill (A0.887688). This is such a fun song to sing, and should have your whole choir bopping along! This is an SATB arrangement but you can drop out the tenor line and the three part arrangements will work with just about any combination of parts. I have tried to keep it as simple as possible, although the F major chord just before the end of the chorus does make the chord progression a bit tricky! It's a well-known song though, so shouldn't need too much work to get it down. There are no minimum order quantities on this piece as I arrange all my songs to be taught by ear.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308788 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. 11 pages. Tobi Crawford #898034. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308788). *Purchase 10 copies to perform this piece with your ensemble of any size*Purchase the instrumental pack (bass and drum part) here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/beyond-the-sea-instrumental-pack-only-22605052.htmlThis arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea†over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,†and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.†It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables†and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Published by Kevin G. Pace (A0.701759). An original hymn with text by Kathryn W. Hales below.YouTube video: https://youtu.be/fxh5D3JYM_o When I see the world through a child’s eyes, I see mountains and bluebirds and bright butterflies; I feel sand through my toes when at the beach And the apples on the tree just out of reach. When I see the world through a child’s eyes, It’s easy to believe in a Heavenly Father so wise, That He created this earth and all its beauty untold; I still hope to see it that way when I’m old. When I see a family through the eyes of a child, I see a father who provides and a mother who smiles; I have brothers and sisters who are kind to me And we all play together in harmony. When I see a family through the eyes of a child, I can believe in Heavenly Parents, loving and mild, I can view each person as someone of worth And accept them as God’s family here on the earth. When I see others through the eyes of a child, I can learn compassion, to speak without guile; I can be teachable, forgiving, honest, and true, When I see the kind things others may do. It’s easy to believe in a God who is just, When I learn from others to show mercy and trust. I can learn patience while waiting a while, For God’s blessings to come to an obedient child. (Optional for the Christmas season) When I see Christmas through a child’s eyes, I feel laughter and magic and wondrous surprise; I love lights and music and cookies and songs, I want to serve others and never do wrong. It’s easy to believe when Baby Jesus was born Though ‘twas long ago on that Christmas morn, That Love had come down to redeem and glorify, When I see our Savior through a child’s eyes.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.908380 By Bad Religion. By Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin. Arranged by John M. Licari. Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Music Preparation Services #4363013. Published by Music Preparation Services (A0.908380). Sorrow - Bad Religion from The Process of Belief (2001)Sorrow is a single off of the album The Process of Belief by the prolific punk rock band, Bad Religion released in 2001. Bad Religion is known longevity as a punk rock band, fast tempos, their use of three-part close harmonies, and meaningful, lyrical prowess. This arrangement expands on their use of three-part harmonies with divisi sections in the chorus. The arranger also takes liberties with background parts as well. While the arrangement can be done with piano and voices alone, I did provide an electric guitar (distortion on, please, and thank you…also, you’re welcome!), bass guitar, and drum set part in order to get the full punk rock experience.Click here to listen and view the score: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WRS_Dy-rGg&feature=youtu.beArranged by John M. Choral Choir,Choral (SATB divisi) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1350508 Composed by Charles Ives. Arranged by Stanley M Hoffman. 20th Century,Classical. 12 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #935320. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1350508). I have long had a fondness for the songs of Charles Ives whose music is in the Public Domain for the world as of 2024. Creating choral versions of some of them is inspired by the solo recordings made by Jan DeGaetani accompanied by Gilbert Kalish, and by the choral recordings made by The Gregg Smith Singers. That Ives composed over one hundred songs is no small feat. Though they vary in quality as does his entire oeuvre, some of them remain almost mystical to me in their quality and effect. Like a Sick Eagle and The Indians (renamed here to The Native Americans to match the current times) are two such songs. When arranging Like a Sick Eagle, I visited the website for the Charles Ives Society where I discovered that he grouped this song with The Indians under the master title Set No. 10 of Three Pieces with the song Luck and Work placed between them for contrast. I knew I could arrange the first and third songs for mixed chorus, but I also knew right away that the second song would be all but impossible to arrange for I was already familiar with it. So I included it in its original version and labeled it for Solo Voice or Unison Chorus and Piano. In creating these arrangements I hope to rekindle interest in Ives’ music and its possibilities. I also hope that you find these songs as moving as I do.—Stanley M. Hoffman—Set No. 10 of Three Pieces (Charles Ives [1874-1954]) - 1) Like a Sick Eagle, 2) Luck and Work, 3) The Native Americans (The Indians) arranged for SATB chorus (divisi) and piano - English - composed 1920-1921, arranged in 2021. NotePerformer 4 audio and scrolling score video in search of live performances.Arrangement: © Copyright 2021 by Stanley M. In the place Gethsemane, Jesus Christ so fair Spoke to His disciples there, Tarry here and watch with me. Falling on his loving face, Praying fervently; His Father’s will to offer grace; Suff’ring willingly. 2. Cometh then, He finds asleep Those he left to spare Agony and pain so rare Of his gift, that they may reap. Could’st thou not one hour stay Watchful as the meek? Thy spirit, willing, longs to pray For the flesh so weak. 3. Time would meet Eternity As He prayed to God. Angels sing of glory, laud, Honor born of charity. Drinking of the bitter cup; Father’s will be done. Determined he would lift us up; Thus did God’s own son. 4. Now I’m asked to watch and pray, Offer all my heart. I will choose the better part, That I might abide the day. Father help my heart to know; Help my eyes to see; Unveil and guide my wand ’ring soul T’ward Eternity

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1262362 Composed by Sally Whitwell. 21st Century,Contemporary. Octavo. 17 pages. Sally Whitwell #855402. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.1262362). On the morning of 2 March 2020, I finished writing the first draft of this song. It was the same morning that the New South Wales Rural Fire Service announced that for the first time since July 2019, the state was free of active bush and grass fires. At the time it felt quite euphoric. We’d been through a lot. Little did we know what was coming just a few days from then, when the Covid19 global pandemic reached our shores. It’s a virus that would kill millions across the world, and disable millions more, long term. It forced us, globally, into a kind of reckoning the like of which we had never experienced before. Non pharmaceutical controls like lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing and ventilation standards were employed to keep us safe from this airborne virus, whilst scientists worked round clock to develop vaccines and treatments.Technically, the declaration of a pandemic is still active, but governments and people have somehow decided for themselves that it is all over. No one takes any precautions any more. Governments have stopped reporting statistics. People who know they are infected are going about their business with no thought for others. Meanwhile, many of the immune-compromised, the disabled, the vulnerable, are unable to safely leave their homes and engage in activities out in the world. I know this, because I am a carer for a vulnerable person. What this whole exercise has taught me is that people in the world are actually much less kind than I thought they were. Humans do not really care for each other. People attack me for wearing a mask, tell me that I’m virtue signalling and that I look ridiculous (as if I care how I look). I’ve asked questions about workplace Covid safety and been informed that it’s “a bit rich†that I’m asking at all, when everything is now safe. A friend’s diagnosed Long Covid symptoms were cruelly minimised or completely dismissed “Oh, it’s not Covid. How old are you? In your forties? It’s your hormones, it’s the menopause.†The fatal combination of sheer selfishness, rampant misinformation and DISinformation continues, whilst people waltz around spreading a deadly virus with no thought for the grief that will undoubtedly ensue. It boils down to this: if we want to continue as a species and to have a planet on which to reside, we have to stop with the Self Care and start with the Community Care. A choir is the perfect instrument for expressing these notions, through the unique power of the massed first person plural. My wish for this piece is that it spurs performer and listener alike into some kind of action. Please consider the effect your actions have on others, and on the planet, and make any changes necessary, however inconvenient or difficult they are. Otherwise, there’s really no point.Sally Whitwell 11 July 2023.

Published by Tyne Music (A0.999344). GRACE DARLING: One of my full length family plays in the TYNE ONSTAGE series of original musicals. With Drama, Comedy and Song they offer a new source of material to any Producer, Director or Teacher in the Performing Arts looking for original stories with great songs, covering a wide range of musical styles. GRACE DARLING was known as the ‘Heroine of the Farne Islands’ off the Northumberland coast where she lived with her family in the Longstone Lighthouse. She became a household name when in 1838 along with ther father William Darling rowed out in a North Sea gale to rescue 9 passengers from the capsized paddle steamer Forfarshire. Honoured by royalty, her fame was short-lived as she died of Tuberculosis in 1842 aged only 27. This musical is based partly on her life which I’ve interwoven with a love story. This album includes the Piano & Vocal Score along with the full Libretto. For full information please see my website:- https://www.tynemusic.com/grace-darlingP.S. Sorry, but there are no band parts or orchestral scores as the costs involved would have made these musicals too expensive. Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus divisi - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1487909 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Arranged by Stanley M Hoffman. 20th Century,Classical,Jewish. 12 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #1064840. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1487909). Composer’s Notes Anim Zemiros was composed in 1985 while I was a doctoral student of Martin Boykan at Brandeis University. The initial fugal theme was inspired by the melody from the third movement of Beethoven's Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132, also known as Heiliger Dankgesang. My theme resembles Beethoven's melody in two ways: it aurally approximates the rhythms of his theme and it also takes the contour of Beethoven's melody and inverts it, also in an approximated way. This is where the similarities to Beethoven's theme end, forAnim Zemiros is most certainly not composed in the Lydian mode! Rather, it is composed in a chromatically saturated musical language. Although Anim Zemiros may be used for the Jewish Musaf Sabbath Service, it was conceived as a concert piece. In the synagogue, this hymn is sung responsively by the cantor and congregation. The responsive nature of this hymn is what inspired the use of contrapuntal passages alternating with homophonic ones. Anim Zemiros begins with a statement of the initial fugal theme in the basses followed by a response at the interval of a fifth in the altos during which the basses present the counter theme. After a brief episode, the same thing happens in the tenor and soprano voices while the basses and altos present new contrapuntal melodies. A brief, contrasting, calm homophonic chorale passage ensues (a textural foreshadowing of both the loud climax and the hushed closing of the piece). This is followed by an extended development section (like ones from sonata-allegro movements) in which ideas from both the contrapuntal and homophonic sections are fragmented and stratified. Shifting time signatures provide added momentum to this music that leads to the homophonic climax that follows. Next comes an “anti-fugue” in which the initial fugal theme is presented backwards, as is the fugal form itself, moving from four voices, to three and finally to two. However, rather than moving to one voice as at the opening of the piece (which would have been a very predictable thing to do), the piece ends with a reminiscence of the calm homophonic chorale. Ashkenazic pronunciation was chosen over Sephardic for two reasons. I wished to have the s sound on the Hebrew letter sov rather than the t sound. In addition, Ashkenazic pronunciation is considered to be somewhat archaic since Sephardic is used in modern Hebrew. I felt this gave me artistic license to compose vocal lines containing correct or incorrect syllabic stress for purely musical effect. I deemed it necessary to state this at the outset of the score, lest one think that this composition contains errors in text-setting.Ashkenazic Transliteration An-im zemiros veshirim e-erog,Ki eilecho nafshi sa-arog.Naf-shi chimedo betseil yodecho,Loda-as kol roz sodecho,Midei daberi bichevodecho,Ho-me libi el dodecho.Ye-eravno sichi olecho,Ki nafshi sa-arog eilecho.English TranslationI will chant sweet hymns and compose songs,For my soul pants after you.My soul has longed to be beneath the shadow of your hand,To know all of your mysteries.Even while I speak of your glory,My heart yearns for your love.May my meditation be pleasant unto you,For my soul pants after you.
