A fantastic offer price for the full score and all parts! ... Looking for something to add a sense of oriental exoticism to your amateur orchestral/choral concert? This may be what you're looking for! This charming little suite of six dances lasts about 15½ minutes. It consists of a Pavane, Bourée, Sarabande, Allemande, Basse Danse and Galliard, which vary widely in character. As a whole the suite provides some interesting challenges for both performers and listeners. Apart from conventional strings, flute and harp (which can be either pedal or lever) you will need:- One or maybe two Arabian ouds. The parts are playable also on a fretless acoustic guitar. (Needs to be fretless because of the quarter-tones in some of the Arabic modes used.)- A cimbalom (the part can be played on a piano also, with slight modification). You might get away with using a hammered dulcimer but you'd need to make a number of compromises.- A doumbek and a djembe. These beautiful drums are a must for Middle-Eastern or African music. They're fairly easy to find, though finding somebody who can play them properly may take a bit more doing!- Finger cymbals and a gong. These are regular western instruments.- A wind-chime. Anything that produces a nice shimmering spangle of sound will probably do!- A group of singers (SATB). Nothing particularly challenging but see below.The primary oud part, the strings and the singers need to have sufficiently good intonation to pitch quarter tones. These are the exception rather than the rule, but nevertheless play an important part in the character of the music. Apart from this, the music is relatively straightforward and probably playable by any reasonably competent amateur or high school orchestra.In the spring of 2020 I wrote a set of short music tracks for a charity of which I'm a trustee. In order to protect my intellectual property rights in the music, I decided to bring it together into an attractive if not intellectually challenging little suite, hence An Omani Dance Suite. Originally the dances were all in Arabic quarter-tone temperament, but obviously quarter-tones cannot be played easily (if at all) on the flute, harp and cimbalom. So I have made some adjustments but retained the Arabic temperament wherever reasonably possible. I had thought initially of using a santur instead of a cimbalom, but the santur lacks the range and the dynamic capability to be used with a string chamber orchestra. The cimbalom doesn't need to be a concert grand model; in fact it doesn't even need to have dampers.The Omani was something of an afterthought: a musician friend of mine had worked in Oman and commented on how authentically Omani the Basse Danse sounded. Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money, Too) - Choral Arrangement for SATB and Piano arranged by Michael Thomas CoullWhy Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too!) was originally recorded as Weed Smoker's Dream and is an American blues and jazz-influenced pop song written by ‘Kansas Joe’ McCoy and Herb Morand in 1936.  Both men are given composer credits on the original 78 record label, although Morand’s name is misspelled. In 1936, the Harlem Hamfats recorded the Weed Smoker’s Dream.  Band member Joe McCoy later rewrote the song, refining both the composition and lyrics.  The new tune, titled Why Don't You Do Right (Get Me Some Money Too!), was recorded by Lil Green in 1941, with guitar by William ‘Big Bill’ Broonzy.  The minor key twelve-bar blues song, with a few chord substitutions, proved popular and quickly became a jazz standard. With its roots in blues music, the song originally dealt with a marijuana smoker reminiscing about lost financial opportunities.  After it was rewritten, it took on the perspective of the female partner, chastising her man for his irresponsible ways:  ‘Why don't you do right, like some other men do? Get out of here and get me some money too!’A wonderful bluesy arrangement for full SATB choir with piano accompaniment, not just fun for the choir to sing, but also one the audience will really enjoy too.

This song was composed by Nahum Situmorang (1908 - 1969). He is a composer and musician. In his entire life, Nahum never worked as an employee of the Dutch colonial government. During his youth, he had won many song competitions, including Sumatra Keroncong Concours in Medan (1936). Nahum's skill in creating his own songs as well as singing them made many people admire him. Nahum is able to play a variety of musical instruments and has his own band. Nahum also often creates songs when in the middle of a crowd. Nahum was most prolific in composing songs from 1950 to 1960. Historically, Nahum has never married in his entire life. However, from several sources, Nahum stated that he once loved a woman but he did not reveal it. This song tells about the romantic story of a man who seduces the woman he loves. He fell in love at the first sight and tried to find out about the woman's family. This song is a collection of rhymes called Umpasa in Batak language. The lyrics of this song are closely related to the culture of the Batak tribe, especially about the family tree known as Tarombo. Men and women are not allowed to marry if both are of them are from the same descendant ( one surname / one family tree). A polka is a vivacious couple dance of Bohemian origin in duple time; was a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step; a lively Bohemian dance tune in 2/4 time. The polka was originally a Czech peasant dance, developed in Eastern Bohemia (now part of Czechoslovakia).Growing up in Pennsylvania, nd playing for various local community bands, VFW bands ,Lion's Band , etc we played the Pa Polka for many functions, churches, Seniors, Cake Walks, 4th of July programs, summer and spring concerts, marching bands, parades, and many more events.The Pennsylvania Polka is such a fun, happy song, in a march tempo beat. However, I am so proud of this arrangement as I am of the state I live in. , Another interesting fact is that people not familiar with the song informed me this sounds like a carousel music at an amusement park This arrangement would be great for holidays, church functions, Seniors, July 4th concerts, kid's programs, parades, community concerts, or just any other fun concert. It's a great song for playing and breaking up the typical monotonous flute choir music. This song is about a married woman. Every step she takes, her husband supports her. She is enveloped in his world, and he is enveloped in her's. Suddenly, this man dies. She is overtaken by this lonely feeling. Her better half has just been stolen from her.  The word, Falling, is repeated to describe the fact that she knows that she is falling down a bottomless pit called her heart. The words, I can't hear a sound are said to describe that not only is she blinded by her grief but she is deafened as well. She cannot focus on the world around her because her grief consumes her. The words, I want to go home are spoken to describe that her husband was her home. She had her safety net ripped from underneath her and it will never come back. The words, I want to be free are spoken in unison with the entire choir to describe that everyone feels this way at least once in their life. They all have been thrown into a cell that some call the heart, and they've lost the key.  The last portion is the same as the beginning portion because the woman is remembering her husband in all of his glory. The last chord ends in major because she has had the epiphany that he lives on, within her memories.

Taking inspiration from the original and several other different covers of this song, I've written out what is probably one of my favorite arrangements I've written. It's sure to challenge your performers and keep your audience engaged from start to finish!It starts with a soft drone in the Basses that continuously adds chord tones and volume to build sonic intensity and set the tone right out of the gate! We then move on to a slowed down first verse with the melody supported only by chords in the choir. Vocal Percussion leads us into a tempo change and explosive snippet of the melody before the piece hits its stride. Lots of upbeats, syncopations, and altered melodic tones throughout adds a high level of difficulty to this piece. As we get to the end of this piece, the ensemble will suddenly alter time to a half time feel that not only adds to excitement but also helps to bring the piece to a dramatic closing.This is written for Solo voice and SSAATTBB choir and a Vocal Percussionist.As with most of my arrangements I leave many of the syllables blank to encourage the director/performers to put their own spin on the arrangement with their own choice of syllables! Suggested syllables in certain spots and all necessary melodic lyrics have all been included for you!I hope that you and your group enjoys my arrangement! The House Of The Rising Sun was named after Madame Marianne LeSoleil Levant (which means Rising Sun in French) and was open for business from 1862 (occupation by Union troops) until 1874, when it was closed due to complaints by neighbors. It was located at 826-830 St. Louis St.2) It's about a women's prison in New Orleans called the Orleans Parish women's prison, which had an entrance gate adorned with a rising sun artwork. The melody is a traditional English ballad, but the song became popular as an African-American folk song. It was recorded by Texas Alexander in the 1920s, then by a number of other artists including Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White and later Nina Simone. It was her version The Animals first heard. No one can claim rights to the song, meaning it can be recorded and sold royalty-free. Many bands covered the song after it became a hit for The Animals.
