An energetic new setting of the classic sacred text, "Cantate Domino" was commissioned as a competition piece by maestro Rolandas Daugela for the Cantate Domino International Choral Festival and Competition of 2017.
The piece opens with a triumphant fanfare, accompanied by an energetic rhythmic figure in the tenors and basses. This first theme is contrasted by the second section - a warm, contemporary "benedicite" theme, followed by a lyrical, folk-inspired "quia mirabilia". The final section is an exciting reprise of the first theme, but this time the tenors and basses carry the fanfare in four-part harmony while the sopranos and altos provide the driving accompaniment. In the final bars of the piece, the choir ascends in a powerful crescendo to a magnificent final cadence.
For a cappella SATB chorus with some divisi. Score includes piano reduction (for rehearsal). Also included: bonus version without piano reduction (for easier reading for singers).

Though still a challenge, especially with the optional vocal soli, this Conniff-themed edition has been adapted from a more difficult version previously performed by Vocalogy on their 2005 Distilled release. The piece opens with a pulsating rhythm section figure as pianist, bassist, and drummer enter one by one. The wonderful moments of tension have been maintained beneath Rachmaninoff's soaringly romantic melody, and the wordless vocal provides an ethereal quality. With the optional soli, this is an Advanced level arrangement. There is room for improvising regardless of whether or not the soli is performed and, with no soli, this is an Advanced Intermediate arrangement.  Included individual piano, bass, and drum parts play from individual parts with chord symbols, slashes, and rhythmic notation. Central to the enduring appeal of the poem is Carroll’s linguistic creativity. There are at least 16 other choral settings of ‘Jabberwocky’, so why choose this one? Like most, Kirsten Duncan’s composition seeks to express the meanings of the words and actions in the text through musical ideas. Unlike most, this piece is composed for intermediate to advanced mixed adult choirs (SATB divisi) without any instrumental accompaniment, and combines the tradition of Anglican chant (evident in the final stanza) with a mood of fireside storytelling for a ripping musical yarn of high adventure. Kirsten Duncan has had a lifelong passion for choral singing. Now based in Canberra, Australia, she has performed with Gaudeamus (Judith Clingan), Hamburg International School (ISH) Singers, the choirs of Christ Church St Laurence Sydney (Dr Neil McEwan), The Resonants (Helen Swan) and others. Kirsten started composing choral music in 2015, contributing to the musical community that has been a stabilising thread throughout her life. A seminal jazz ballad selection, Niema (also known as Naima) was written by John Coltrane, with lyrics by Jon Hendricks and arranged by Lenora Helm Hammonds. The 2nd chorus features a vocalese with the arranger’s lyrics, written to pianist Tommy Flanagan’s solo from the original recording. The soloist for the vocalese can be soprano, high alto or a high tenor and is quite harmonically and rhythmically challenging. The arrangement features, some section unison features, dense chorus harmonies, and a vocal bass line in the bridge for the baritone and bass voices. Notes: The first chorus is performed by the complete ensemble, followed by the vocal solo. An instrument solo is also optional as an additional chorus separating the vocal solo and the return to the top of the form with the return of the ensemble (as heard in the demo.) The demo depicts the vocalists performing with piano, bass and drum as a rhythm section supporting the vocals. However, the arrangement can be sung a cappella for advanced groups or with just piano accompaniment.

Competitive high school and college choirs should be able to manage it. The piece involves continuous two-against-three rhythms with the choir vs. piano. In addition, there is one extended a capella section that requires the choir to stay on pitch for the piano re-entry.
