The main theme is in 7/8 time, divided into 2, 2, and 3. It might look a bit daunting to some, but it's easy when counted as 1-2-1-2-1-2-3. Its recommended that singers practise this rhythm first, perhaps by clapping on the off-beats. There’s plenty of contrast in the piece and singers are sure to enjoy the music. It’s scored for SATB choir with keyboard accompaniment. The middle section uses much vocal counterpoint and has almost a waltz feeling to it. Choir members need to be reasonably experienced at singing independent vocal parts. The piano part is of moderate difficulty but could be handled by any competent pianist. This is a new arrangement (as of Seotember 2023) in which the music has been transposed down one tone from the original. This joyful anthem would be a great addition to your Christmas concert or service. The vocal range is as follows: Soprano: C4 - F5; Alto: A3 - D5; Tenor C3 - E flat 4; Bass F2 - B flat 3 (Duration 03:03).

Based on the ancient Latin text by Prudentius Aurelius, made famous by the evocative translations of Neale and Davis, this new setting of Corde Natus (Of the Father's Love Begotten) presents a beautiful choral reflection on love, creation and worship. Sometimes associated with Advent or Christmas, the lyrics are typically associated with the Gregorian chant: Divinum Mysterium - a style of singing that is difficult for many congregations, even when updated to modern notation in hymnals. This anthem re-presents the timeless lyrics with steady meter, regular phrases full of step-wise melodic motion, with plenty of unison and light choral harmony. It functions both as a piece suitable for amateur choirs, as well as having enough challenges to engage a more advanced choir. The maximum is SSSSSAAAAATTTBBB, with the staves laid out as S1a/b, S2, S3a/b, A1a/b, A2a/b, A3, T1/2, T3/B1, B2/3. The use of a/b divisi is due to the fact that the those parts only go to divisi for a new chords at the end of the piece. There is also plenty of part-doubling throughout the arrangement, and this has been carefully considered to aid both balance and voice-leading, although the former is given priority. Collier pulls no punches emotionally or technically with this piece, which features Bass 3 singing C1 in a few places and Soprano 1 singing D6 in the final moments. Choirs without the lowest bass notes can safely omit them and sing the Bass 2 parts instead.

This along with countless other caroling classics have such a wonderful sense of harmonic movement that support lovely melodies. I wanted to lean into the melodic and allow rich harmony to unfold. This arrangement is quite challenging, with plenty of intricate harmonies and sonorities and a diverse array of stylistic influences. It will take an intermediate to advanced choir to pull it off. Range is not too challenging, with the lowest bass note an F2 and the highest soprano note is an F5. This is a blissful and serene arrangement with some spicy moments to keep things interesting. Perfect for you choir's holiday showcase!
