Highland Cathedral is a popular tune for the Great Highland Bagpipe, composed by German musicians Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb in 1982 for a Highland Games held in Germany. It has been proposed as a Scottish national anthem to replace the unofficial anthems Scotland the Brave and/or Flower of Scotland. In this arrangement for four voices (SATB) you will hear the spirit of the Scottish Highlands and feel the sea breeze on your face. The arrangement builds slowly from a bourdon fith to a tutti choir and should be sung in a church with plenty of reverb for maximum effect.Highland Cathedral ist eine Dudelsackmelodie, die von den Deutschen Ulrich Roever und Michael Korb 1982 in Deutschland komponiert wurde. Als Hymne für die Highland Games in Deutschland geschrieben, begeisterte sie auch die Schotten, die sie als Nationalhymne vorschlugen. The arrangement is fun and easy, and was actually written with smaller and perhaps poorly balanced choirs in mind: there are never more than three parts to the harmony, so one of the four sections is always doubling one of the others, in a rotating fashion! The notes and rhythms are very straightforward, and although the Gaelic words are a bit tongue-twisting, a mere five bars' worth -- five short text fragments -- serve for the whole song, and a phonetic approximation of the pronunciation is provided. The piece is only about a minute long, so it makes a good encore, or a fast and flashy finale for a folksong set!

This original song tells a fairy tail in the style of a Celtic folk song. Both the story and the tune are wholly original and were composed as part of a music production class that Mark participated in during the spring of 2022. This song tells the story of a young boy's adventure in the woods, his skepticism towards what the old folks say, and the results of his failure to listen to them. This piece by Mark R Lewis is arranged for SATB ensemble. All parts get the melody at some point and there are several duets between voices parts throughout the piece. Additionally the accompaniment voices switch between homophonic harmonies and arpeggiating chords several times for increased complexity and interest. The instrumental parts consist of vibraphone, piano, bass guitar, and floor tom parts. Any mellow metallophone would be an appropriate substitute for the vibraphone and the bass guitar part can be played on almost any bass instrument. The optional floor tom could be substituted with any other lower, resonant drum available but should not be a short, sharp sound. All that said, both the vibraphone and bass guitar parts are mostly doubled in the piano or vocal lines so groups that do not have access to those instruments should still be able to perform this piece without concern. This piece is also available for Vocal Trio w/ Mixed Ensemble and the sound files sampled here are from that arrangement.
