Mike & Sharon, along with their teenage on, Jacob, each respond differently to the tragedy. We see that, even though things look bleak from an earthly standpoint, God is still in control, and He uses even these difficulties to bring glory to Himself. This program has eleven songs for choir. Two of the songs have a female solo who can also be the same person who plays Sharon in the program. With a simple cast of four characters, the program can be done as a complete drama or in reader’s theater format. The program length is approximately 45 minutes.

The piece: Chorale: Messianicum, Prophetia, was not originally composed as a sacred work. Rather, it was an exercise; written to practice aural and written theory while I was a student at the University of Wyoming. So, its roots were those of a Vocalise. Be that as it may, the harmonies are reminiscent of the music for Mass in the old Catholic cathedrals and churches. Therefore I added a text taken from Isaiah 53: 3-5 from the the Vulgate to complement the music.There are moments where the music appears to be at odds with natural inflection of the Latin language and this is not an error. Though there is a time signature indicating a meter, this is to facilitate greater ease in conducting and reading the music. It is very much in free time and thus I invite the conductors and choirs performing this work to please refrain from following the metronome mark as if it were God reincarnate.Finally, a thank you to all musicians who suffer for my madness, the conductors and directors for taking a chance, my fellow composers for the inspiration they give, and my friends and family for the loving support they give to one, who for better of for worse, works hard at nothing all day.8 1/2 X 11 pre-prepped for Booklet Printing

My family were early adopters on Compact Disc technology. Whilst my school peers in the late 80s and early 90s were collecting tapes for their VHS video recorders, my family were collecting hi-fidelity CD recordings of classical masterworks. Three of these CDs stick in my mind; a period instrument performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons performed by Trevor Pinnock and The English Concert; a recording of the 1812 overture which boasted Real Cannons (and also warned listeners against setting the volume too high because it might damage the equipment!); and A feather on the breath of God, an album of works by Hildegard performed by Gothic Voices with soloist Emma Kirkby. Thus began my life long love affair with the life and works of Hildegard. I have been performing this particular Hildegard chant O Virtus Sapientiae in solo piano recitals since around 2014. Basically, I have been freely improvising on it, so it’s different each time. Some ideas formed during those improvisations which have really stuck in my brain. I’ve transferred some of these into this a cappella work. After your initial shock, you can't help but praise God.Nunc dimittis: An old man is at the temple in Jerusalem.
